Alan Wake
The PC version of Alan Wake was released in late 2011, which includes all the same content as the Xbox 360 version plus the 2 DLC’s.
Overview -
Horror games are a popular genre in this day and age, with each game providing a unique experience. Alan Wake falls into this category of games and provides a great experience in every way possible. The story spans over 6 episodes, each of them crafted with a unique experience that feels like a novel presented as a TV show. The game is crafted beautifully in every sense, from the way the story unfolds, to the way the characters are developed over time, to how you interact with the environment, to the way the mechanics are introduced, providing a very unique and stellar experience that no other game in this genre does.
Gameplay -
Alan Wake’s gameplay follows any 3rd person shooter where the players are expected to shoot their way to the next checkpoint. But that’s not the gist of it.
Alan Wake provides players with a flashlight to reveal and fight enemies as the game uses the concept of light and darkness. The enemies cannot be defeated without revealing them using light first. The flashlights consume batteries that players can find during the course of the game. Batteries are consumed only when the flashlight is used to focus on enemies to reveal them and to destroy poltergeist objects. Players reach checkpoints often when entering areas of light and enemies and poltergeist objects cannot attack or chase players as long as they stay in the light.
The game also provides players with flashbangs and flare guns that detonate, disintegrating any enemies or objects in range. Flares can be used to reveal and stun enemies to buy some time until the flares run out.
Conclusion -
Remedy has a built a fantastic game with a realm of twisting shadows and realities, outstanding level design, beautiful story, brilliant visuals and sound and great mechanics. Overall, Alan Wake is a well-written and well designed game that creates an unforgettable experience, that’s just as fun to play as to watch.
