"Why throw your life away?" Rem asked. It made sense when Gelus did it for Misa: she was the one ray of sunshine in their cold grey world. "You could live longer than any human in history."
Misa didn't answer, instead opening a new tab and adjusting her angle to eclipse the screen from Rem’s view. Nails clacked against the keyboard, and then Misa hit a key and pushed away from her desk, allowing Rem to watch the video in full screen.
Rem learns why Misa is so willing to lay down her life for one who does not cherish it.
