(This is for the anon who wanted to see my opinion on the whole remrom scandal that occurred due to an answer that Joan gave as a response to an ask on their tumblr blog. I accidently deleted your ask and I feel awful for it because I really wanted to talk about it! If you see this and want to retype your take on the situation I’d love to post it 💛)
Here’s my take on the whole situation: To start off, I didn’t actually get to see the original post that Joan typed out before they deleted it, but I got to see the fallout and drama that it caused. From what I hear, Joan said something along the lines of “Roman and Remus are as much brothers as Patton is a Dad or Logan is a teacher.”
This made people freak out to the point where Joan legit had to take down the post to avoid causing too much discourse. In my opinion... this is just ridiculous. I mean... seriously guys? Are you so opposed to remrom that you would manipulate a creator of the show into to repressing their view of the characters. NOTHING that Joan said is untrue and I’m shocked that people would disrespect them like that.
People can of course have differing views on the characters, but in canon, the sides are imaginary. They can’t be brothers or fathers or sons in the human sense of the words. That’s literally all that Joan said. Joan’s take on the sides didn’t need to be ignored and pushed down just to refuse remrom shippers the right to see the two not really as brothers. Frankly ship discourse shouldnt even be discussed with the creators of the show. It seems extremely unfair to include them in conversations like that when they weren’t even talking about shipping to begin with.
Basically, it was super unfair and frankly disrespectful to bother Joan to the point of deleting a post. Just let people speak their minds, expecially when that person is the actual creator of the content you enjoy. You don’t have to like what they say, but they have the right to have their own opinions on their creations.
