[During CODY's moment of hesitation, the menu prompt appears.]

[You immediately try to take full advantage of the opportunity by choosing the POKéMON option, hoping to send PIKACHU and BLASTOISE out as cannon fodder.]

[But PIKACHU will not come out of its BALL.]

[You try BLASTOISE next. Same result.]

[It seems they both know better than to fight a battle they know they can't win.]

[As soon as you back out of the menu, the cutscene continues. You cannot select another option.]

Upon their approval, you take your DS outside.

You place it down on the grass next to you, tilting the screen upwards so they can look towards the sky.

The sunlight makes the screen dark, but you can just barely make out their reaction...
