Man On a Wire
I feel like I'm walkin' on a tight rope
My heart is in my throat,
I'm counting on high hopes to get me over you
You kept walking back and forth in front of the Quidditch Pitch.
“You need to calm down, love. It’s only a question” Alice tried to reassure you.
“B-but what if he says no?” you asked, feeling anxious.
“He’s not gonna say no” she insisted.
“You don’t know that. There might be a million reasons why he would say no” you said, making your best friend glare at you. “O-okay maybe not a million but… a f-few” you shrugged.
“Hey, ladies” you heard Sirius approaching and landing next to the two of you. “What are you still doing here? We’re gonna be done in a few minutes” he said looking at you.
“She’s second-guessing herself” Alice told him.
“C’mon, love. We’ve been through this. I’ve told you a million times. I know first-hand, Remus is basically in love with you-” Sirius said, rolling his eyes.
“L-love? You never said anything about love, Black!”
“I didn’t think I needed to. He looks at you worse than Prongs looks at Lily or Frank looks at this one” he said, pointing at Alice.
“Hey, don’t drag Frank into this” Alice glared at him.
“My point is, it’s time you both just stop being stupid and get together” he simply said.
“But what if he says no?”
“Why would he say no?”
“I don’t know!”
“He’s not gonna say no, okay? So, just, go up there and we’ll be out here waiting for you two idiots to come out holding hands and we can go to dinner” Sirius said before he started pushing you towards the bleachers, where Remus was sitting.
“Okay, okay, I’m going!” you said, looking at your best friends one last time and taking a deep breath.
You started climbing up the empty stairs and walked over to one of the highest bleachers where you knew Remus always read while he waited for his friends to be done with practice. Not that you knew his every move you just… noticed. You felt your heart beating faster when you spotted him. He was so enthrallingly handsome, it was ridiculous. You always heard girls talking about how stunning Sirius was and, you didn’t disagree, Sirius was very attractive. But Remus’ beauty was completely different. It was hypnotizing. Which is why you were extremely worried about asking him out.
You gripped your books to your chest a bit tighter and made your way over to his spot. He was so concentrated on his book that his tongue was sticking out a little and he was resting his head on his right hand as he read. You cleared your throat a little, getting his attention and making him look up at you.
“Um… h-hello, Remus” you smiled, nervously.
“Hi” he smiled back at you.
“I am sorry to um b-bother you” you started. “Uh, is it okay if I join you?”
“Oh, yeah, sure” he said, getting up and scootching a little to make room for you. How were you not supposed to fall in love with this man?
“Um, th-thank you” you said, placing your bag on the floor and taking your books out. “So, um… what are you reading?”
“Oh” he said, marking the page on his book. “Um, I’m reading A Murder is Announced” he said, showing it to you. “Have you read it?”
“Oh, yes, I read this last year. It’s a really good book. Are you enjoying it?”
“I am” he nodded. “So, what brings you to the Quidditch Pitch today?” he asked, all of the sudden.
“Oh, w-well, there’s a match on Friday” you said. “... right?”
“Right” he smiled. “Are you planning on coming to the match?”
“W-well, I don’t know. I’m not much of a Quidditch fan, as you know” you said, feeling your cheeks burn. “S-so, I thought maybe if I watch them practice I might understand it a little bit better?” you said, nervously.
“Why the sudden interest?” he asked, curiously.
“Um, I don’t know” you said, nervously running a hand through your hair. “It’s our last year, so… I promised myself to try new things” you smiled wearily. “So, um… do you think you can explain some of it for me?”
“Um… sure” he said, putting his book down. “I mean, I’m not the best myself but I did read Quidditch Through the Ages” he said, making you laugh a little. “So, Prongs is the captain” he said, pointing at his friend. “He, Sirius, and Kurt are Chasers. So, they have to get the Quaffle through the hoops” he instructed.
“Okay, that doesn’t seem that complicated” you said.
“Right, but it’s the Beater’s job to throw the Bludgers at them and prevent them to do so” he told you. “Fabian and Gideon are really good. But, we’re playing Ravenclaw on Friday and their Beaters are quite ruthless” he explained.
“So, I take it you’re coming to the match on Friday?”
“I am” he nodded. “I never miss a Gryffindor match” he smiled.
“Oh, Merlin! Look at him! He looks even better with his hair like that” you heard a group of girls a few steps down and to your right. They were ogling and sighing over Sirius, who wasn’t as far, brushing his sweaty hair with his hand.
“Ugh, I know! He’s stupidly handsome” another one giggled.
“So… Sirius has his own cheerleading section?” you chuckled.
“Yeah, he kind of does” Remus told you as Sirius made his way over to the group of girls in his broom.
“Hello, ladies” he said, flashing his signature handsome smirk at them, making them giggle and they all started complimenting him.
When he spotted you, he quickly sent a wink your way. You failed to see Remus rolling his eyes as he started putting his stuff in his bag, which is why he failed to see Sirius widening his eyes at you before pointing at Remus hinting that you needed to ask him. You sighed, rolling your eyes, and took a deep breath one more time.
“Um, R-Remus?”
“Yes?” he asked, looking back at you.
“Um, w-well, I was um…” you stuttered nervously. “C-could I ask you something?”
“Sure” he said, turning to look at you.
He noticed you were nervously playing with your hands before you looked at Sirius one last time and then you finally faced him. He prepared himself to hear you ramble on about how much in love with Sirius you were and if he could help you fix a date with him or something.
“W-well, I was w-wondering if, uh-” you said, again. “If you’re not busy on F-Friday, um… m-maybe you’d like to um…” you stammered. “G-go with me to the Library to study, b-before the match?” you managed to finally spit out. You felt your heartbeat increase as you waited for your answer.
“What?” Remus frowned.
“O-or if you’re busy we can c-come to the match?” you tried, smiling nervously. “O-or I b-believe it’s a Hogsmeade weekend-”
“What’s your angle?” he asked you all of the sudden, taking you by surprise.
“Um… a-angle?”
“Honestly, if you want to go out with Sirius, just ask him” he said, standing up and grabbing his bag.
“Sirius? W-what are you talking about-?”
“You know, a lot of girls have asked me what’s the best way to ask him out but none of them have sunk so low to the point of pretending that you would like to spend with me to get closer to him-”
“That’s not what I was-” you tried to explain, getting up yourself.
“What is it then? Are you trying to make him jealous or something?”
“What? No! Remus, I don’t-”
“You know what? No, thank you. I honestly have better things to do than to spend a day with you talking about Sirius” he said before walking away, leaving you standing there, mouth opened, dumbfounded. You didn’t even hear the last things he said. The only words ringing in your ears were ‘No, thank you. I honestly have better things to do than to spend a day with you.’
Your eyes kept looking at him as he climbed down the stairs and you saw the group of girls that were looking at Sirius. They all looked at you with sorrow in their eyes. They felt sorry for you. You had just been rejected in front of them. You felt your eyes starting to water as you saw Alice running towards you.
“Hey, what happened? I just saw Remus leaving-”
“He said no” you silently said as a few tears ran down your cheeks.
“What? Why?”
“He said he- um” you tried to explain to your friend as she sat you down. “He thought I was asking him out b-because I wanted to get closer to Sirius” you said.
“What? That’s ridiculous! Why would he think that?”
“I don’t know” you said. “I tried to tell him that wasn’t the case b-but he didn’t let me explain and he left” you finished, crying a little harder.
“Hey” Sirius said, flying over to the two of you. “What happened? Why are you crying?”
“Remus said no” Alice informed him as she hugged you.
“What? Why?”
“He thought she was only asking him because she wanted to ask you out” Alice explained.
“He said that?” Sirius asked you and you slowly nodded. “I’m gonna bloody kill him” he muttered under his breath. “Look, love, I’ll talk to him, okay?”
“N-no, it’s okay” you said, trying to stop more tears from falling. “I d-don’t think Remus likes me that way anyways” you said, sadly.
“Don’t say that, love” Alice insisted. “Let’s just go to dinner and we can talk things through” she suggested.
“I’m not hungry” you said, pulling away and grabbing your things. “You guys should go” you smiled sadly at them. “I think I’m just gonna go to my dorm” you told them, eying the group of girls who were now leaving.
“No, we can talk to Remus-”
“Go and rest, okay? I’ll bring you something” Alice interrupted Sirius.
“Thanks guys” you smiled weakly at them. “I’ll see you tomorrow” you said before making your way out.
“Bye, love” Sirius said before turning to Alice. “I’m going to kill Remus” he repeated.
“If you don’t, I will” she replied.
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
“What the bloody hell is your problem?” Sirius asked when he burst into his dorm.
Remus was reading a book, James was coming out of the shower, and Peter was just sitting there waiting for everyone to get ready so they could go to dinner.
“Which one of us are you talking to, Pads?” James asked, confused.
“Why don’t you ask your stupid friend Moony” Sirius said, glaring at him.
“What are you talking about?” Remus frowned confused.
“Oh, you’re going to play dumb? So we’re just going to pretend that nothing happened back in the Quidditch Pitch and you didn’t make anyone cry?”
“What?” James and Peter asked at the same time.
“Again, what are you talking about? Nobody cried” Remus said, closing his book and getting up.
“Really? Are you sure about that, Moony? Are you really sure?”
“You don’t know what you’re talking about, Padfoot. You have no idea what happened!”
“Oh, really? So, you didn’t reject her when she asked you out?”
“What? Who asked you out?” James asked, interested.
“Nobody-”
“Nobody? Really? The girl that you have practically been in love with for years is now nobody?”
“What? She asked you out?” Peter asked.
“You said no?” James asked, extremely confused.
“She didn’t ask me out, okay? She was only asking to spend time with me to get closer to you!”
“What?” James and Peter asked again. “That doesn’t make any sense!” James said.
“Yeah, what are you talking about, mate?” Peter asked.
“Why the fuck would she want to get closer to me? We’re friends!”
“Because she’s in love with you, just like every other girl in this stupid school is, apparently!” Remus snapped.
“You see? You see how stupid your friend is?” Sirius told James.
“Stop talking to me as if I’m not here! And stop calling me stupid!”
“Mate, you are stupid! You truly are if you think she was only asking you out to get closer to Sirius!” James told him.
“Shut up! I saw the way that she was looking at him! You winked at her, and all of the sudden she’s interested in Quidditch and she wants to go to the match on Friday, and I’m supposed to believe she doesn’t fancy you?”
“Mate, I highly doubt she’s interested in Quidditch” Peter laughed.
“Yeah, she’s as interested in Quidditch as she is in Padfoot” James added.
“Moons, I winked at her because I knew she was nervous about asking you out. See, it was actually the other way around. She came to me and asked me how she could ask you out” he explained.
“W-what?” Remus asked, feeling terrible.
“Do you honestly not know how much in love with you she is?” Peter asked, confused.
“Yeah, she’s always looking at you, mate” James told him.
“She’s n-not” he insisted, trying to convince himself that he hadn’t just turned you down and that you were not in love with him. “She likes Padfoot. She’s always with him-!”
“Yeah, talking about you, you idiot!” Sirius told him. “She’s always asking what your favorite books are, what movies do you like, and what would be the best way to ask you out! And when she finally got the courage to do it, you said no” he explained.
“Holy shit” Remus muttered to himself, plopping on his bed again. “I am so stupid” he stated.
“Yes, that’s what I’ve been trying to tell you, mate” Sirius said, sitting next to him. “So, what are you going to do?”
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Throughout the next few days, Remus tried endlessly to find you so he could apologize but it was useless. You were avoiding him like the plague. Even when he tried using the Map, it was as if you were one step ahead of him. He looked for you in the Library, where he thought you’d be even if he said no, but you were nowhere to be found. He hoped you would make it to the match on Friday, but again, you were a no-show.
It wasn’t until Saturday when he begged Alice to drag you to Hogsmeade so he could just ‘casually’ run into you. It took him and Sirius to convince her since she was still mad at Remus for rejecting you, but she caved.
So, here you were, on your way to Hogsmeade as a third wheel on Alice and Frank’s date, although they insisted it wasn’t a date, so Marlene and Dorcas were here too. So, all in all, you were fifth-wheeling.
“Come on, love. It’s gonna be fun!” Marlene said, linking her arm with yours. “We can do whatever you’d like!”
“Yeah, we can go to the Three Broomsticks, or Tomes and Scrolls, or the music shop” Dorcas suggested.
“To be honest with you, girls, I kind of just want to go to Honeydukes to get as much candy as I can carry and then go back” you said with a sad sigh.
“What? No, love, it’s a beautiful day!” Marlene insisted.
“Look, we have some errands to run, why don’t you go to Honeydukes to get some candy, and then we can meet at the Three Broomsticks?” Alice suggested as you entered the village.
“Um… can’t I just by my candy and go-”
“No!” Dorcas and Marlene said in unison. “We’re gonna head to the Three Broomsticks to get a booth, so you better come there after buying your candy” Dorcas added.
“Ugh, fine!” you said, frustrated.
In all honesty, all you wanted to do was buy an endless amount of candy and go back to your dorm. Ever since Remus rejected you, you felt people watching you everywhere you went. You could hear them talking about you and you were certain that the girls that witnessed the entire thing had already spread around your very much public rejection. Which is why you had been avoiding going out of your dorm as much as you could.
You turned around to make your way to Honeydukes, completely missing that your friends joined James, Peter, Lily, Remus, and Sirius at the Three Broomsticks.
“You’re up, Lupin” Alice said, still glaring at him as the rest made their way inside the pub.
Remus took a deep breath before he followed you into the sweetshop. He spotted you on one of the furthest shelves, holding, or trying to, as many sweets as you could in your hands. He felt a sweet smile forming on his face as he watched you. A small part of him still thought that Sirius was wrong. That there was no way that you could ever be interested in someone like him.
But his heart fluttered more intensely with each step he took towards you, and he knew that whether Sirius was right or wrong, he still needed to apologize to you for the way he spoke. When one of the many chocolate frogs you had fell on the floor, he quickly made his way over to you and picked it up.
“Um, here, I think you dropped this” he said, making you turn around to face him. His heart ached a little when the smile dropped off your face when you saw it was him.
“Oh… um” you said, grabbing the treat from his hand. “Thanks” you smiled nervously.
“How have you been?” he asked, cursing himself silently. “I uh… didn’t see you at the match yesterday” he added.
“Right… I wasn’t really in the mood to go” you smiled firmly.
“Oh” Remus said, feeling even worse. “W-well, you missed a good match” he chuckled. “Gryffindor won” he said.
“I heard” you replied noticing a few people looking your way. “Um, I should uh- probably get going” you said, as you were going to start making your way out, but you felt Remus gently grab your arm and turn you around.
“Wait!” he said, getting even more attention from the students around you. “Um, I…” he felt his heart beating a little faster. He didn’t like dragging this much attention to himself and he wanted to ask you to go somewhere a bit more private. But, firstly, he didn’t think you’d like to go anywhere with him until you apologized and secondly, he very much publicly rejected you, so maybe he had to do the same thing. “I wanted to apologize to you” he blurted out.
“Oh, R-Remus, you don’t have to-”
“Yes, I do” he said, getting closer to you and pulling you a little away. “I’m really sorry about the way that I spoke to you” he said. “I’m sorry for assuming that you were just talking to me to get closer to Sirius-”
“Why did you think that?” you asked all of the sudden.
“E-excuse me?”
“Why would you think that the only reason I would talk to you or wanted to spend time with you would be to get closer to someone else?” you asked. “I mean, I thought- I thought we were friends… Is that… um… is that what you think of me?” you asked, sadly.
“What? No!” he assured you. “I don’t- we are friends” he insisted. “I just…” he sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Okay, here it goes” he said, taking a deep breath. “I like you, love” he started. “I really like you. I’ve liked you so much for so long, I’m pretty sure that I’m very much in love with you” he confessed. “But, I never in a million years thought that y-you could like me like that” he said. “I thought that you were only interested in Quidditch because you wanted to see Sirius and I saw him wink at you, so my reasoning was that you liked him because, for some reason every girl in school does, and that would be the logical thing-”
“The logical thing would be for me to like Sirius?”
“Well, yes” he said as if it was obvious.
“Why?”
“Why would you have any interest in spending time with me then?”
“Because I like you, you big idiot!” you blurted out, frustrated.
“Y-you do?”
“Yes! I figured Sirius might have told you by now, or you might have heard it from the entire school who apparently knows and you’re the only one who’s still oblivious to it!”
“Well, to be honest, Sirius did say something but, I still wasn’t entirely sure that it was true-”
“Why, Remus? Why do you think it’s so impossible for me to be in love with you?”
“L-love? Did you just say love?” he asked, smiling.
“I uh-” you said, realizing you just let it slip. “Well, you said it first!”
“Well, yes, because it makes sense for me to be in love with you, but it doesn’t make sense for you to be in love with me!”
“What? That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard! Why?”
“Why? Oh, I don’t know, maybe we should discuss this on the next lunar phase” he said, muttering the last words.
“Oh, Merlin! Really? Is that what this is about?”
“For starters!” he argued. “Trust me, it would make a lot more sense if you liked Sirius! He’s handsome and always laughing, he’s funny and witty-”
“Remus, are you trying to tell me that I should be in love with Sirius? Or that you are in love with Sirius?” you smirked a little.
“That’s not what I meant!” he glared at you. “Look, I just… I never thought that someone like you would ever want to be with… someone like me” he muttered the last part.
“Wow, you really are an idiot, aren’t you?” you chuckled as Remus rolled his eyes.
“Why does everyone keep saying that?”
“Who called you an idiot?”
“Sirius!” he complained.
“Aw” you smiled. “Well, we can be two idiots in love, or you can just reject me again. It’s your move, Lupin” you told him.
Remus bit his bottom lip, trying to prevent his smirk from getting bigger. He walked closer to you and gently pulled you closer to him by your waist before he leaned down to press his lips against yours. You suddenly dropped all the candy you had in your hands and you quickly wrapped your arms around his shoulders.
“I choose two idiots in love” he smiled before kissing you once more.
“Good answer, Lupin” you smiled.
“Oh, I also wanted to ask” he said, grabbing your sweets and placing them in a basket. “If you’re not too busy if you… wanted to go on a date with me?”
“Well, I told Dorcas and Marlene I would go to the Three Broomsticks-”
“Yes, they are all waiting for us to get there” he informed you.
“Oh, okay, so that’s a no on the Three Broomsticks then” you said, as you walked over to pay for your things.
“I think that’s for the best” he smiled.
“Well then, it looks like my day is free” you said, as Remus held your hand when you walked out of Honeydukes.
He pulled you back a little and kissed you once more. “I really am sorry, love” he smiled.
“I know you are, Rem” you smiled back at him.
“So, does this mean you’ll keep me company on Quidditch matches?”
“If you’re there, I guess I can be there” you smiled as he kissed you again, neither of you noticing your group of friends looking at the two of you from the window at the pub across the street.

______
“Y/n, where are you?”
Hearing Lily call your name made Regulus break away from you quickly. The two of you quickly redressed to your formal state before going upstairs. Regulus quietly opened the door while you grabbed a photo album to stage a reason why the two of you went upstairs. The last thing that you wanted was for your mother or father to know that you dragged Regulus upstairs for a quickie in your childhood bedroom.
“Anywhere this was when I was 9.”
You said randomly earning a smirk from Regulus as Lily walked into the room.
“There you two are. You both disappeared.”
You held up the photo album.
“I was showing Regulus a picture. Bloody hell, Lily, we didn’t have time to come up here and screw each other.”
It took all Regulus had not to laugh at that. He had to hand it to you…you could be downright sneaky when you needed to be.
“I never knew that she could be such a sassy little tart.”
Regulus thought with a small smirk as he turned his attention to you. He never thought that he would go to absolute pieces over a girl but it was happening.
“Was happening” wasn’t even the proper words. Regulus “lost” it the moment that the two of you had the first intimate moment alone.
While you spoke quietly to Lily, Regulus let his mind go back to the conversation that he had with Sirius. It wasn’t long after the two of you had slept together for the first time.
Sirius was sitting on the couch and had caught Regulus looking into the other room at you. Regulus knew that Sirius had noticed the “longing” expression in his younger brother’s eyes. It had to be the first time that Regulus had probably had that expression on his face.
“She’s perfect for you. She doesn’t know you or our mum. She has nice thighs.”
Regulus had heard what Sirius said but it didn’t compute to his brain at that particular moment.
“She could strangle me with those and I would die a happy man….what did I just say?”
Sirius immediately started laughing. Regulus had completely frozen when those words left his mouth. While Regulus had slept with multiple women before…none of them had affected him as you had. One night of hot sweaty passionate lovemaking had Regulus ready to be an honest man and only want you. Granted, it would take some time before Regulus fully accepted and appreciated that thought.
“Awe, you discovered girls.”
Sirius said before laughing even harder.
Your voice pulled Regulus from his thoughts. Regulus hadn’t been listening to the conversation that you were having. The annoyed tone, however, pulled Regulus right back into it.
“Why are they here?”
Lily sighed, looking as equally as put out. She didn’t disagree with you on not wanting to see Petunia. Dealing with Petunia was about as enjoyable as getting dental surgery.
“Because Petunia is our sister and mum wanted a dinner with all of her children. Even if one of them is the most difficult woman on the planet and her husband is the human equivalent of a walrus.”
“A walrus?”
Regulus questioned. He had heard plenty of tales about Vernon and Petunia. Neither sounded the least bit delightful. If Regulus never met them, he wouldn’t have lost too much sleep about it.
Lily nodded.
“You’ll see what I mean soon enough. They are the type of muggle that hate people like us.”
Regulus immediately rolled his eyes. If he wasn’t in your parent's home and didn’t give a damn about ruining his reputation in their eyes, he would let Vernon and Petunia have it.
“Maybe I will run into them somewhere else?”
Regulus thought with a smirk.
“Lovely.”
Regulus commented. You turned your attention back to your boyfriend. There was no doubt in your mind that Regulus would absolutely hate Petunia and Vernon. If he climbed across the table and smack the shit out of both of them, you wouldn’t be at all surprised. Vernon and Petunia were the type of muggles that the Walburga and Orion warned their sons about.
“Just try to get along with them. I don’t want mum or dad to be drug along into this. They only want their family together for one night.”
Regulus and Lily reluctantly nodded. The two looked at each other slightly surprised that for once they agreed on something. Had the situation not been so serious you would have made a witty comment about Regulus and Lily actually having something in common after all.
“Fine. I won’t call them fucking morons to their face but you can’t stop me from thinking it.”
Regulus replied smugly. Lily groaned.
“I’ll give you money to say it to their faces.”
“Lily.”
You said your older sister’s name before shaking your head.
“He actually will.”
You added. Regulus only nodded in agreement. It wouldn’t take much for him to be totally okay with insulting some self-righteous asshole muggles.
“We might well get this over with. I hear the walrus.”
You mumbled. Lily turned and left the room to go in search of James. She had to warn him to be nice too.
“So, do we go after her or do we just stay here?”
Regulus questioned. You reached down for his hand.
“Get it over with.”
You murmured before going to the door. Regulus reached out and stopped you. He quickly spun you around and shoved you against the wall. You internally sighed the moment that his mouth was back on yours. Reaching up, you gently tugged on Regulus’ hair earning a groan from your boyfriend.
“Be a good girl, love, and I’ll make your evening better when we get home.”
“Yeah? I would sure hope so.”
You murmured, still not moving your mouth far away from Regulus’. He slightly chuckled before kissing you once more.
“You’re such a tart.”
Regulus said, fixing his now-destroyed hair.
“Well, you started it.”
You countered, giving him a cocky smile. Regulus shook his head before reaching down for your hand.
“We better stop or we are going to end up screwing again and will never get this dinner over with.”
Going back downstairs, you took a deep breath and silently prayed this dinner wouldn’t be as awful as the last one. You did not want to spend two hours listening to Vernon talk about how exciting his job was again. You were thankful that James and Regulus were there this time. James had no shame in making Vernon’s life miserable. He would ask annoying questions until Vernon finally got the message and shut the fuck up.
Walking into the living room, you faked a smile as Vernon and Petunia looked up.
“Y/n, it's so…nice to see you.”
Petunia said, in a forced friendly tone. Vernon, meanwhile, didn’t say anything.
“It's nice to see you too, Petunia. This is my boyfriend, Regulus.”
Petunia and Vernon were surprised to hear this news. You never brought a boy home. Now here stood what could be the best-looking boy that Petunia had ever seen in her life.
“Pleasure.”
Regulus commented, in his usual icy tone. Your mother motioned to the two empty seats.
“Sit down. It's so nice to have all three of my daughters home for an evening.”
As you sat down, you shot Lily a look that said “Kill me now.” Regulus meanwhile, was busy looking between Petunia and yourself. Nothing looked at all similar. If Regulus saw the two of you together in public, he never would have put it together that the two of you were siblings. You resembled Lily more than anyone.
“And for that I am grateful.”
Regulus thought as he frowned at how unattractive Petunia was.
The dinner was mostly an uneventful affair. Right as your mother plated dessert, Vernon turned his attention to Regulus.
“So, what is it you do, exactly? You haven’t said much of anything.”
Your mother and father’s eyes rolled up to Regulus as if silently apologizing for their rather rude son-in-law. Vernon had been talking about his wonderful job so long that no one had the chance to utter a word.
Regulus turned his attention to Vernon. So far there was absolutely nothing about the man that could be the slightest bit redeemable. If Regulus never met Vernon again, he would be totally okay with it. Vernon was nearly as vain and boring as Regulus’ uncle Cygnus. Regulus had spent half the dinner thinking about how if Cygnus would entertain the thought of having muggle friends he and Vernon would be perfect for each other.
“I’m a lawyer.”
Regulus replied. Vernon frowned.
“You look awfully young to be a lawyer.”
Regulus put his drink down.
“In our world, we don’t have to spend ages in school in order to be successful. It also doesn’t take much to prove or defend someone for a crime.”
Vernon rolled his eyes.
“I see. You are like them.”
He motioned to James, Lily, and yourself with clear distaste in his voice. Regulus raised an eyebrow.
“Like them? Oh, I get it. You have a problem with what we are and what you are not. Unfortunately, not everyone can be special. Some people need to be…ordinary.”
Vernon turned a shade of pink that you had never seen before. James meanwhile, grinned.
“Vernon, I would be nice to him. His family is loaded and they know all kinds of dark magic. If Y/n and Regulus get married, you may meet them at the wedding.”
You gave James a look before putting your head down to not giggle. Something told you that if you did marry Regulus, Vernon and Petunia would be no-shows. Granted, the Blacks probably wouldn’t be there either once Walburga found out that her baby boy was to be with a muggle-born.
“Regulus probably won’t want them there anyway.”
That thought alone spoke volumes. Of all the time that you had known Regulus, he never did much with his family. He would go to a family dinner when his mother pestered him enough but that was it. Regulus mostly avoided them like the plague.
You were also extremely thankful for that fact too. The last thing that you wanted was to potentially have to explain yourself to Walburga and Orion Black. Nothing that you could say would be good enough to convince them that you would be the perfect wife for their son. Walburga would probably try to attack you for “bewitching her baby boy.”
Rolling your eyes, you turned your attention to Regulus. He sat staring at Vernon with his best “lawyer scowl.” You had seen him look at many people like this. Between being in a courtroom with Mr. Crouch while Regulus defended someone or an Order meeting…this was Regulus’ perfect poker face.
Regulus focused his attention on Vernon’s face. To his pleasure, he saw fear in the man’s eyes.
“Thank you for that James. Look, Vernon, I know about you. Whether you like our kind or not, you will be showing us respect.”
Regulus focused his attention on Vernon’s surprised face before speaking directly into his mind.
“You will show me respect as you will with every other person at this table. Potter is right about one thing. I do know how to make your life miserable and I won’t hesitate to do so. I beg you to give me a reason.”
Vernon was clearly surprised by the experience. He looked around a moment or two before realizing what was actually happening.
“You’ve made your point!”
Vernon thought, nervously. Regulus leaned back in his seat with a pleased smirk on his face.
“Peachy.”
Vernon was magically silent for the remainder of the evening. You were happy with whatever it was Regulus did and didn’t plan to ask any questions. Seeing your older sister and her pig of a husband silenced made the remainder of the evening magical.
Arriving back home, James was in fits of giggles after Regulus told him exactly what he did.
“I wish that I could have heard the whole thing. I may have to upgrade you to friend.”
Regulus rolled his eyes as he took off his coat.
“Isn’t that nice? Well, that was an interesting evening.”
Lily sat down on the couch in a huff.
“That is why there aren’t many Evans family dinners. One can only take so much Vernon and Petunia Dursley before your brain goes soggy.”
Regulus shrugged.
“He made me want to punch a wall. Oh well, he’s scared of me now. You are most welcome, by the way. Y/n, sugar, are you ready to call it a night?”
You simply nodded before going to head up the stairs. James whined.
“Silencing spells are great. We all know that she calls you daddy.”
Lily shot her husband a glare while Regulus turned around and gave James a smirk.
“Now that we all know each other. Later.”
Lily waited until Regulus was out of the room before throwing a pillow at James’ head.
“Why would you do that?”
Meanwhile, you had barely gotten up the stairs when Regulus pulled you into the bathroom.
“I wanted to spend the evening in a hot steamy shower marking your pretty little neck up.”
You gave Regulus a little smirk before beginning to get undressed.
“We both can get what we want.”
You moved to turn the tap on and waited for the water to get hot and steamy. After turning the shower on, you were about to get in but stopped when Regulus wrapped his around you from behind.
“Turn your neck to the side.”
Regulus ordered. You did as you were told and waited for Regulus to bury his face in your neck. When he didn’t, you started to turn but stopped the moment Regulus lightly smacked your ass.
“Stop being impatient, I was only admiring my work from the other night.”
Regulus commented before licking a path over the love bite from the night before last.
“Now be a good girl and get in the shower.”
(The next morning)
You were thankful that the previous evening’s moodiness seemed to evaporate after returning home. After the little go in the shower, Regulus was back to himself.
“You’ll be late today?
You questioned as Regulus walked you to your office. He rolled his eyes before sighing.
“Yeah, this case I have is a real drag. How I’m supposed to defend this man properly is still a mystery on its own. I should thank your twat of a boss for sending him my way. If I wouldn’t get the book thrown at me I would kick him.“
You shook your head before fixing Regulus’ tie. It was no secret to you that there was no love lost between Barty Crouch Sr and Regulus. Regulus had no respect for the older man since he threw his own son into prison (even if there was enough evidence to do so). While Regulus had not said it, you knew that he missed Barty Crouch Jr. Regulus had lost so many friends over the years. Knowing that one of them was locked away in prison forever to rot there was a rough thought.
“I would prefer that you don’t kick him. I rather like you being home with me and not in Azkaban. Besides, you are too pretty to go to jail.”
Regulus smirked before shaking his head.
“You really are a pain in my ass.”
You gave him a smile before stepping closer to kiss him goodbye.
“That’s why you love me.”
Never in a million years did Regulus EVER think that he would be standing in the Ministry of Magic flirting with his minx of a girlfriend. Now here he was and he was starting to not give a damn. It was nice feeling wanted.
“Yeah, you keep me on my toes wondering what in the fresh hell you have done to me.”
You placed a hand on Regulus’ chest, fighting the urge to pull him into another kiss.
“Melting your heart and keeping your dick hard… it's what I do best.”
(meanwhile)
Walburga and Druella walked through the Ministry of Magic hallways. Both women had come to pick up a document that Orion had requested. Walburga was annoyed with her husband. He was perfectly capable of doing something himself but as usual, requested Walburga to do it.
“He is probably busy with his stupid mistress. The whore is nothing but trouble.”
Walburga grumbled. Druella rolled her eyes.
“The men in our family have problems with saying no to pretty young women.”
Druella was about to say more but stopped the moment that she spotted Regulus standing outside of Barty Crouch Sr’s office. Her eyes widened as she realized that Regulus was talking to a girl…a girl that the Black family had no idea about.
“Speaking of the men in our family being unable to say no to pretty young women. Look at your son.”
Walburga frowned before following Druella’s line of sight. She stopped the moment that she saw Regulus. It had been weeks since Walburga had heard a peep from her youngest son. Now here he stood standing awfully close to a girl that Walburga knew nothing about. She looked you over. Whoever you were, you were a lovely young woman.
“I wonder who she is?”
Druella questioned. Walburga shrugged.
“He hasn’t even informed me of a girlfriend.”
Druella chuckled as you reached out to fix Regulus’ tie then stood on your tiptoes to kiss him.
“Well, she is either his lover or they are very good friends. I have never seen her before. I wonder why she is…and her blood status?”
Walburga had to fight the urge to stomp over to her son and demand answers to her questions but decided not to. Regulus had been avoiding her like the plague. Walburga wasn’t sure if it was due to his new job or some kind of “I have no parents I was hatched from an egg syndrome” that Regulus was going through. Whatever the problem was truly bothered Walburga. She had already lost Sirius and now her precious baby boy acted as if he had no time for his parents.
“Yet, he has time for this girl.”
Walburga thought coldly.
“I have no idea who she is but I will find out. I think it's time for us to have a family dinner. I want to know about who this little woman is. My son owes his mother some explanations.”

Sirius Black and (Y/N) (Y/L/N) had been best friends sincetheir first year at Hogwarts, and had been dating for the last 3 months.Everyone could agree that they were the hottest couple at Hogwarts.
“Hey love!” she heard her boyfriend’s voice
“Hi Sirius” she said, giving him a peck on the cheek “Areyou going to Hogsmead tomorrow?”
“No, I’ll stay here, enjoy the silence for a while.”
“So you’re going to leave me all alone?” she pouted
“I know you better than that, besides, you’ll have the restof the gang with you…”
“Fine, but I’ll miss you…” she said
“Who wouldn’t?” he answered cheekily, earning a smack on theshoulder by (Y/N)
“Ok, well, I gotta go to class!”
Sirius sighed, hisgirlfriend was a Slytherin, meaning thatthey only had one class together on Fridays, and then, he didn’t get to see herin the afternoon since she had Quiditch practice. It was a weird relationship, since, because of his family, he never would’ve guessed that they could’ve beensuch good friends, let alone dating. But she had indeed stole his heart. Therest of the marauders had accepted her as one of them too, since she became ananimangus with them to help Remus with his ‘furry little problem’.
“So, Sirius won’t be coming tomorrow at Hogsmead, huh?”asked Hazel Kovu, a Ravenclaw in her age
“What my boyfriend does, or doesn’t do, is his business, andhis business alone” she answered “Now, if you wouldn’t mind, I’m going to class”
“Are you okay, I saw you talking to Kovu…” said Isla(pronounced Ai-la), one of her best friends at school
“Yeah, she was just asking about Sirius, again”
“Oh god, what does she want with him now?”
“Nothing, she was just eavesdropping, and heard that he’ll be staying here tomorrow”
“That can’t be good…” sighed Isla, and (Y/N) nodded “so, we’restill going tomorrow right?”
“Of course, with the rest of the marauders”
“Yup, now come on, we’ll be late for class”
-
(Y/N), Isla, James,Remus and Peter had a great time at Hogsmead. They went to Honeydukes, to buysweets, they bought book, quils, and last but not least they visited Zonko’sJoke Shop, to buy pranking supplies.
“I’m going to head back now.” Said (Y/N)
“What? Why?” asked remus
“I just feel bad for leaving Sirius all alone”
“Fine, but I’m staying” said Isla and the rest of the boysnodded
(Y/N) headed backto the castle alone, not being able to wait any longer to spend some time alonewith her boyfriend. Or so she thought.
She arrived at thecastle, and headed towards the Gryffindor common room, she wasn’t sure how shewas going to get in, but she would find a way. She was interrupted though bythe sound of someone laughing, Sirius. She turned around and headed towards thesource of the noise, only to find her boyfriend, Sirius Black, and the personshe hated most, Hazel Kovu, laughing together like some sort of old friends.
“Sirius?” she struggled to keep her voice steady
‘Oh, uh (Y/N), what are you doing here so early?” he asked
“I was hoping to keep you company, but it seems like you gotthat all worked out…” she said, her eyes filling with tears
“Wait, no! (Y/N)!” but he didn’t get a chance to explainsince she ran towards the dungeons.
He triedto follow her, but a hand stopped him.
“What are you doing?” he asked Hazel
“Come on, is it really worth the trouble?”
“Of course it is!”
“What I meant to say, is that, she didn’t even give you achance to explain yourself, so why should you go running after her?”
“What the hell Kovu, of course I should go after her becauseshe is my girlfriend, but now, thanks to you, she’s already in the slithering commonroom, and I don’t have the password!” he said, while walking away from her
-
(Y/N) had been crying for hours now, of course he had done somethinglike that, why would the infamous Sirius Black date her, when he can have agirl like Hazel Kovu? That’s why he wanted to stay here. ‘Enjoy the silence’ myass! He was cheating on her, plain and simple!
“(Y/N)? What the hell happened?” she heard Isla’s voice
“Sirius was apparently enjoying the silence, alongside withHazel Kovu, that’s what happened!” she said between sobs
“That little bitch! I’ll end him! But, hey, it’s his loss, Imean come on! You’re (Y/N) (Y/L/N)! You’re the best thing that happened to him,and he lost it!”
“Yeah, right! I get it, y’know! I mean, why would he want mewhen he can have Kovu, right? With her long legs, pretty face…”
Isla couldn’tfind a way to respond to that, because, in fact, Hazel Kovu was one of theprettiest girls in their year, so she just held her best friend as she cried.
-
“I screwed up, Prongs, I screwed up real good…” he said thatnight
“Well, you did! WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING!” shoutedRemus
“I wasn’t!”
“YEAH, NO SHIT SHELOCK! HOW COULD YOU? AND WITH ISLA KOVU!”shouted James
“I’m sorry! Okay, I just-K didn’t think it was so much of adeal!” said Sirius, his eyes actually filling with tears
“Ok, but you have to do something..” said Peter, his voicesofter realizing how sad Sirius was
-
The next morning, (Y/N) and Isla didn’t sit with themarauders at the Gryffindor table, but at their own table with Lucius Malfoyand the rest of his friends.
“Hey, I heard what happened with you and my brother” said Regulus,Sirius’s brother
“Yeah, well, he’s a douchebag, I think we can all agree, butcan we please talk about something else?”
“Whatever you like, little one.” Said Lucius
“Don’t call me that!” said (Y/N), slapping him playfully onthe arm
“Not our fault you’re so short…” said Regulus, hugging Islasince they were dating
“Whatever” she sais, completely ignoring the Gryffindorcoming towards her
“(Y/N), can we, can we talk?” asked Sirius
“So, how do you guys think you did on Slughorn’s test?” shesaid, ignoring him
“(Y/N)! Please, just let me talk to you!”
“Look, Black, it’s clear she doesn’t want to, now why don’tyou leave before you add us to your list of problems, huh?” said Lucius
“Nobody asked for your opinion, Malfoy, now let me talk tomy girlfriend”
Just then, Isla jumped of her seat andpunched him square in the nose.
“Now, you can either leave or you can add a black eye inyour collection, alongside with your broken nose” she said
Sirius sighed andleft.
-
“So, how did it go?” asked James
“Like you didn’t see!” said Sirius “She hates my guts!”
“Well, give her some more time…” said Remus
“And Malfoy and my brother act like they’re her protectorsor something”
“You can’t be jealous of Malfoy, or your brother…” saidPeter
“I am not! I simply don’t like her hanging around with thembecause they’ll change her!”
“Whatever you say mate…”
“Regulus, STOP! You know I’m ticklish!” they heard her voice
Sirius was fumingwith anger, so James, Remus and Peter stood upn and dragged him out, before hecould do something he would regret
“And, I mean, Isla literally punched me! I though she was myfriend…”
“Well, she was until you cheated on her best friend…”
“I didn’t cheat!”
“We know, but they think you did!”
-
The day had passedslowly, (Y/N) was ignoring Sirius completely, choosing to hang out with hisbrother, Malfoy and some other guys. And Sirius was practically mad withjealousy. That’s how the rest of the week went, until, on Tuesday, Sirius couldn’ttake it anymore.
“I miss her so damn much, Prongs! How the hell did I manageto do this!”
“We know, look, Pads, at this stage, just speaking to herwon’t do! You have to do something big…” said James, sighing. Over the courseof that week, one minute couldn’t go by without Sirius declaring how much hemissed her. He was a mess, dark cirlesunder his eyes, messy hair, and he wasn’t eating properly!
-
“I miss him so much Isla” said (Y/N)
“I know, maybe you should give him a chance to explain toyou what happened?” Isla tried to convince her friend, she was a mess. Sherefused to eat properly, and she spent the majority of her time crying.
“No, if he truly wanted to get back with me, he would’vetried harder to speak to me…” said (y/N) firmly
-
“I swear to god, Malfoy’s changing her!” said Sirius
“How come?” asked Remus
“Last night, she was with Malfoy and Flint, when they weremaking fun of a Hufflepuf first year, and she didn’t stop them”
“Look, I think she just misses you mate, okay, you shouldtry to al least talk to her once more”
“Why, the only thing she does is ignore me”
“Hi James, Remus, Peter” she said as she passed them in thecorrido
“See! It’s like I’m invisible!” exclaimed Sirius as theyentered the Great Hall
“come on Pads, we’ll find a solution” said Peter
Just then, they heard(Y/N) giggle, and turned around, only to see Malfoy with one hand around herwaist.
“As if!” said Sirius as he got up and marched towards them
“Oh, this should be good..” said James
-
(Y/N) was ignoredthe black haired boy as he marched towards her with determination. But shecouldn’t ignore him when he kissed her forcefully. Now, someone might thinkthat she would push him away, but she couldn’t resist the kiss and melted intoit to.
“Look, I know this doesn’t fix anything, but I ad to get youto notice me. I refuse to sit by and let the person I love the most in thisworld change because I am the stupidest person in the world. I’m not going totry to explain myself because I know that you don’t want to hear it, but I justwanted to tell you that I wanted to go after you, but that bitch Kovu stoppedme, the past week I’ve been a complete wreck without you, because you’re one ofthe few reasons that keep me going during the endless summer with my family, that if I didn’t kiss you one last time, I would probably explode because ofthe fact that I simply can’t resist those beautiful lips of yours, that Kovuisn’t even half as pretty, intelligent, funny and perfect as you. Because, eventhough nobody’s perfect, you are in my eyes” said Sirius once they pulledapart, he hesitated for a moment to wait and see if she had to say anything, but when she didn’t, he turned around and started walking back towards he Gryffindortable.
“Sirius black don’t you dare take another step!” he heard(Y/N)’s voice
“What the hell took you so long” she said, this time beingthe one that closes the gap between them
Once they pulled apart,he pulled her in a tight hug, burying his face in her hair as the marauders,Lucius, Regulus and the rest of their friends erupted to cheers.
Summary: It started as nothing now it’s something. Voldemort has been defeated but that doesn’t mean the wizarding world is still a good place to be.

_____
The following weeks were some of the longest of your life. It was harder than you expected getting Regulus used to the new changes that his body was going through. While you were well versed on what to expect, that didn’t mean that you were necessarily ready to see the man that you loved going through his new personal hell.
Thankfully, you had Remus in your corner. You had never been more thankful to have him in your life. When Regulus’ temper was going off of the charts and the smallest thing seemed to tick him off, Remus seemed to know exactly what to do or say. Multiple people in the house (Sirius in particular) had a knack for getting on Regulus’s last available nerve. There had been many days that you had to simply tug Regulus out of the room before he tried to rearrange his older brother’s face.
You had to have many talks with Sirius about easing up on Regulus when he started to get annoyed.
“Sirius, I know that normally he would just give you a snarky response but now it's different. Just give him some peace.”
You felt as if you had that conversation with Sirius at least once a day. After you had that conversation, you were calming Regulus down. Once you got Regulus lying down with his head on your lap, you could usually soothe whatever was raging out of him.
“Do you want to talk about what you are feeling?”
Regulus lay with his head on your lap. Your fingers were delicately tracing through his hair playing with each little curl.
“I don’t know what I’m feeling. One moment I’m happy then the next I want to scream. I know what is happening with me, Y/n but I don’t like it. This wasn’t supposed to happen…not to me.”
You were quiet a moment before speaking.
“I know you are struggling, darling, and I can’t pretend to know what you are going through. Sometimes things happen that we don’t expect nor can we adequately prepare for.”
Regulus was quiet a moment before his grey eyes rolled up to your face.
“Crap storms happen.”
You thought back on that conversation sadly. When Regulus commented on crap storms happening, you couldn’t help but note the venom in his voice.
“We will make it.”
You said as you filled the cup in front of you with water.
“Y/n!”
Your internal brooding was interrupted as Ginny came in with Harry, Ron, and Hermione behind her. All four looked happy so you decided to push your inner hell back. Your brother and friends had been a huge source of emotional support for you over the past few weeks. They deserve to speak with the normal version of yourself from time to time.
“Hey, what are you all into today?”
You asked, sitting down at the table. Ginny grinned before looking at Harry with a wide smile.
“We have some news!”
Hermione nodded, eagerly.
“Both of us do. Ginny, do you want to tell her?”
Ginny grinned.
“Hermione and I are both pregnant!”
You couldn’t help the smile that automatically spread to your face. It was only a matter of time before someone decided to take the next steps in building their lives.
“Really? Wow, this is surprising! Congratulations!”
You said happily before forgetting your tea and moving to hug all of your friends. Harry gave you a bigger smile before squeezing your hand.
“We all want you to be godmother to our kids. It only makes sense.”
Harry was relieved to see a genuine Y/n happy smile on your face. It seemed like it had been so long since Harry had seen you smile.
“Of all the titles that I have, I think that one will be my favorite.”
You said, cheerfully.
“How far are you both?”
“About 8 weeks.”
Hermione said. You chuckled.
“We all really do everything together, don’t we?”
Ron sat down laughing to himself.
“I think Minerva will be retiring when she gets a load of this news.”
You mentally envisioned poor Minerva McGonagall running to her calendar and making a big red X on a date in the future.
“I don’t think she can handle going from the Marauders to us to our children. She will take up drinking. I really wish that I could be a fly on the wall when she gets this news. Hey! I have a great idea! So, at the hospital, we have the machines that the muggles use to have a look at their baby while still on the inside. Would you lot like to have a look at the babies?”
Ginny was practically running to the door before saying yes. Hermione nodded eagerly too as you stood up and grabbed your bag.
“This will be fun.”
You said to Harry and Ron before following your friends out. With the past few weeks that you had, you could definitely use some light-hearted fun.
Half an hour, you sat running the monitor over Hermione’s stomach. Watching your normally serious friend’s face light up was enough to bring complete joy to your soul. Ron sat at her side with an awe-filled expression on his face.
“There is the baby’s head and look at those little feet.”
You said. Seeing the happy expressions on your best friend’s faces was a reminder of why you did what you did. It wasn’t all putting people back together after catastrophic accidents. There were also those small happy moments that you would remember for years to come.
“I have never seen a more beautiful blob.”
Ron commented, mesmerized. In all of his years, Ron had never felt more like his father. If it hadn’t been for the muggles and their technology, he would never have been sitting here getting a look at the baby on the way.
“Give it a few more weeks and you will be seeing cool stuff.”
You murmured before squeezing Hermione’s hand. Leaning back in your chair, you looked between Ron and Hermione with a smirk
“What?”
Ron questioned as you shrugged.
“I was right.”
“About?”
Hermione chimed in. You chuckled before pressing your lips together.
“That the two of you would end up together and have kids. I told you both in first year and you both called me mental.”
Ron and Hermione both laughed at that as Harry sat down.
“She did tell you both.”
“Yeah, yeah…you were right. Congratulations.”
Ron said in a cocky tone before leaning down to kiss Hermione’s forehead. Ginny meanwhile was busy looking at the screen.
“Hey, Y/n, can I try? You make this look fun.”
You glanced over your shoulder making sure the lot of you were alone in the room as Hermione sat up.
“Sure, why not? Here try it on me. You have already seen what a pregnant woman looks like. I’ll give you a go with an empty uterus. This is what it will look like when we are looking for other problems.”
You lay back and instructed Ginny on what to do.
“Um…Y/n?”
Ginny questioned. You poked your head up noticing the stunned expression on your friend’s faces.
“Why the hell are you lot looking like that?”
Harry’s mouth dropped as he looked closer at the screen before turning back to you.
“You’re not exactly…empty.”
Ginny carefully turned the monitor around. Your mouth dropped at what was most definitely a baby. At that moment your world came screeching to a dead ass halt. This was the absolute last thing that you EVER expected!
“Give me that!”
You half yelled before taking the probe from Ginny and copying her once gentle movements.
“Bloody hell.”
You choked out as Hermione clapped her hands together.
“You’re joining our club!”
You had hardly heard Hermione as you moved the probe over your stomach. There was no denying that you were pregnant.
“Is that a second one?”
Harry stammered. With those five words, your shock was magnified by a million times….two…twins…that you had no idea about.
“Yes, Harry. That is a second one.”
You commented. Ginny and Hermione were busy chattering about how happy they were to have you in their “circle” now. Harry and Ron gave each other a careful look before Harry moved to sit beside you.
“Didn’t you have any idea?”
You ran a hand over your face as you considered Harry’s question. Thinking over the past few weeks there were signs. You had been extremely tired and sick to your stomach but you had accredited that to dealing with Regulus and his new condition.
Regulus
You immediately winced thinking about how you were going to spring this news on Regulus. He had already been through so much over the last bit. Add being the proud new dad to twins was going to most likely be the “straw that broke the camel’s back.”
“I just thought it was the fatigue from dealing with Regulus and working so much. Oh shit, Harry, I have to tell Regulus. He is not going to handle this well. With everything that’s going on…now this.”
Ron appeared a bit annoyed.
“If he is man enough to have sex with you then he is man enough to be father. If he starts shit, I’ll take him out back and beat him.”
You didn’t have the heart to tell Ron that Regulus would wipe the floor with his face.
“Thanks for the offer, mate, but I don’t want him to kill you. I’m sure that he will be fine after the initial shock wears off. Hell, the shock hasn’t even worn off for me so I can’t really speak for him.”
Ginny came to join you on the bed.
“You know, love, as much as I want to be an aunt…if you feel this isn’t right for you…there are options.”
You squeezed Ginny’s hand before shaking your head.
“I know. I’m sure I’ll be fine once I process this a little more appropriately. Look when we get back I need you lot to do me a solid and not let it slip.”
Arriving back home, you tried to act like it was just a normal day. Maybe you could trick Regulus and everyone else into thinking that you were just tired.
“It's good to have a dream, Y/n. He knows when the smallest thing is off.”
You frowned at the little voice in your head. Regulus could pick up when your mood was off even if you were being a master at hiding it.
“So, where have you been?”
You nearly screamed the moment Regulus wrapped his arms around your waist.
“I was at the hospital. Hermione and Ginny wanted to see their baby. Oddly enough, there is a machine for that.”
“Apparently everyone was having sex at the same time.”
Regulus commented before moving to sit on the couch. He didn’t look up right away. When he did the expression on your face made him raise an eyebrow. You hadn’t moved from your place by the door and were looking at Regulus as if you were expecting him to go to pieces at any moment. Over the past few weeks Regulus had gotten used to you looking at him carefully but this time…this was just weird.
“Yeah..looks like it.”
You replied, internally cringing. Little did Regulus know how right he was.
“So, what's with you? You seem off.”
Regulus questioned as Sirius walked in and plopped down on the couch. He didn’t notice the weird expression on your face.
“Oh…nothing…just tired.”
Sirius looked up at that comment. He looked at you carefully.
“Yeah, I’m not buying that.”
Regulus said. Sirius was busy looking between Regulus and yourself. He hadn’t really experienced an argument between the two of you and really didn’t want to start today.
“Sirius, are you seeing this?”
Regulus questioned.
“What’s wrong, sugar?”
Sirius questioned, sounding like his normally jovial self.
You are going to have to tell him. It's better to just drop the ball.
You thought. As much as you didn’t want to listen to the “voice of reason” in your head, you knew that you needed to tell Regulus. The longer you waited the more annoyed he would be when he found out that you had been gatekeeping that information so secret.
“I need you to keep an open mind.”
The expression on Regulus’ face told you exactly what he was feeling. He was now on edge. Were you about to leave him? Was there something more happening that he didn’t know about?
“That depends. Y/n, you know that you can tell me whatever it is. Did you accidentally kill somebody? Like Fenrir Greyback, perhaps and I didn’t get a swing in?”
You shook your head.
“No, love. I know better than to off him and not let you do some kind of damage. I want you to look at this and tell me you see.”
You handed Regulus the sonogram picture and watched him frown as he looked it over.
“Baby A…Baby B…looks like someone is having a baby. Hermione and Ginny are having babies.”
“They aren’t the only ones.”
You added as Regulus’ eyes went wide. He looked up at you before looking back down at the pictures.
“Y/n.”
“Regulus.”
Regulus was dead silent for a moment. He ignored Sirius who gasped in total shock.
“We’re having a baby?”
“Yes, we are having a baby. We are having a baby!”
You nearly yelled. Regulus’ mouth dropped.
“What is this baby A and baby B thing? Is it different angles…or is this what I’m thinking?”
“It's twins. Please tell me that you aren’t angry.”
Regulus didn’t say a word for a moment. To say that he was stunned was an understatement. Was it a bad time to be having a baby? Not, necessarily. There was no longer a dark lord on a death mission. Was it inconvenient due to Regulus’ current condition? Yes.
“Hell, I don’t know what to do with a baby! I was the baby! What the hell am I going to do with two of them? What if we lose one?”
Regulus’ head was going into a tailspin but he forced that to stop the moment that he focused his attention on your face.
“I can’t hurt her…not now…now like this."”
Regulus forced his inner turmoil away as he quickly moved to wrap his arms around you.
“How could I be angry about something like that? I did help get you into this predicament. Everything will be just fine. I’m only shocked.”
You were instantly relieved when Regulus’ voice resumed his normally calm tone.
“Promise?”
Regulus nodded.
“Of course. I guess it's safe to say that we were all doing the same thing at the same time too. Why don’t you go wait for me upstairs? I would like to have some privacy with you.”
You kissed Regulus once before leaving the room. The moment that you walked out, the soft smile on Regulus’ face vanished and was replaced by a horrified expression.
“What have I just gotten myself into?”
Regulus thought as Sirius came to join him.
“You have to be the most extra person that I have ever seen. The two of you just had to go and make a litter.”
Regulus didn’t move for a moment before running a hand through his hair.
After finally being able to break apart, you stood fixing your hair. The last thing that you wanted was for Sirius or yourself to go downstairs with “I just had sex” hair.
“I really would be interested in you getting more lingerie. That will be a nice thing to come home to after a job.”
Sirius said with a devious smile. When you blushed, he wanted to make a comment about his work being done.
“I’ll see what I can find. Now we better get downstairs for dinner before someone comes looking for us.”
You said before standing on your tiptoes to kiss his chin.
Walking into the dining room, you frowned realizing all sets of eyes were on Sirius and yourself. You sat down trying not to think anything of it until you noticed Matilda and Remus wearing matching scowls. Glancing over at Sirius, you noticed that he was clued in on the awkwardness in the room too.
“What?”
He finally asked. Matilda put her hands over her face and was briefly comforted by Tonks who was whispering something in her ear. Remus, meanwhile, shook his head.
“Silencing charms are a great thing, you know.”
The realization hit you like a bag of bricks to the stomach. Neither Sirius nor yourself had bothered with a silencing charm.
“Oh shit.”
Sirius muttered as your face went tomato red. Remus nodded. He was used to hearing the two of you having sex. Neither Sirius nor yourself knew how to be quiet when it came to making love.
“Yeah, we just got ringside seats for the event that no one wanted to go to.”
Tonks was silently giggling. She was making mental notes to ask questions later. Now definitely didn't seem like the time. Whatever you did she wanted to know what it was so she could try it on Remus.
Your attention went to Matilda who looked like she was ready to die.
“Tilley, honey, I am so sorry.”
Matilda held up a hand ignoring her clearly embarrassed parents.
“We DON’T have to talk about it. I get that you two have sex but that doesn’t mean that I want to witness your corny little sex jokes.”
Sirius crossed his arms over his chest.
“You kind of are our corny little sex joke. You’re the best thing that came out of that vacation.”
“DAD! I said we didn’t have to talk about it.”
Matilda snapped. Everyone was quiet for a few moments. Tonks finally leaned over to you.
“Hope it wasn’t a fertile day.”
The comment made all thoughts in your head freeze. Neither Sirius nor yourself had really talked about having a baby since he came back. That topic had been the furthest from your mind. Between doing jobs and working on getting your relationship back to the way it was getting pregnant again had totally never come upon the radar. In fact, neither Sirius nor yourself had even bothered with a contraceptive charm.
Oh, Merlin…
Would it be a bad thing though? The common-sense side of your brain said this was the worst time possible! Between the war at hand, Sirius still not being 100% in the clear from Azkaban, and your job, you didn’t really have the time for another child. Besides, Matilda was 13 years old. You would be starting all over again!
The “woman” inside of you, however, was swooning at the thought. Sirius had missed almost all of your pregnancy, Matilda’s birth, and almost all of her childhood. Having a child that he could be there for and help with was beyond swoon-worthy.
“I’m not worried about that, Tonks.”
You said, casually. Tonks grinned.
“With your luck, today is the day that you’ll get pregnant.”
Tonks was right. With the luck that you had, you would be pregnant and not even know about it.
“Don’t put that on me, Nymphadora.”
You said with a smirk. Tonks' mouth dropped. You were probably the only one that got away with calling her by her full name.
“Y/n, you can get pregnant anytime. Sitting down, standing up….”
“In a hotel hot tub.”
Sirius added with a grin not looking up from the newspaper that he was reading. You couldn’t help giggling at the grossed-out expression on Matilda’s face. This was obviously a horrible day for the girl. Now she just learned where she was officially “made.”
Sirius had been so focused on your conversation with Tonks that he forgot his daughter was still sitting there. It wasn’t until Matilda said “gross” did he lookup.
“Sorry that you had to find out this way, sugar.”
“God, do you two have to tell the whole world?”
She snapped before getting up and walking out.
The following weeks passed without much merritt. You had been on a few odd jobs keeping an eye on death eaters. Sirius and Remus were in quiet talks about how to get Peter away from Malfoy Manor. You still didn’t like the thought of Sirius sneaking out (no matter how good he was at it).
10:50...You looked down at your watch anxiously tapping your foot. Tonks was supposed to be there at 10:30 and she wasn’t.
It wasn’t until 11 am did Tonks come skidding into the house, tripping over Kreacher, and setting Walburga’s painting in a screaming fit. You shook your head as Remus got up to go silence the painting. No one wanted to listen to Walburga’s ranting; everyone but Matilda that was. Matilda was the only one that Walburga had anything nice to say about. The crazy old bat was constantly calling for Matilda to come to open the curtain so she could breathe.
“Precious, come save your poor grandmama. Your horrible father keeps me locked up behind this curtain….the scoundrel.”
You knew that you shouldn’t but you couldn't help but giggle at the frown that Matilda would give Sirius. She was almost pleading with her father not to make her talk to the painting and of course, Sirius wouldn’t make her.
“I’m just going to say no to that.”
She would say before scurrying out of the room to go join Harry in whatever he was doing.
Tonks took a deep breath, looking totally disheveled.
“Y/n! What in the name of Merlin is going on? I got six messages from you. I told you that I would be by after a meeting.”
You quickly grabbed her arm and tugged your soon to be sister-in-law into the kitchen.
“You jinxed me!”
Tonks frowned.
“What are you talking about?”
You threw your hands up.
“My period is late!”
Tonks' confused expression turned to a smirk as she poured herself a cup of tea.
“Sweetie, just because your period is late doesn’t mean that you are pregnant. Have you taken a test?”
You shook your head. No, you hadn’t taken a test. You had spent the past week waiting for your “visitor” to show up. It would come any day and you would be off the hook.
“No, I haven’t. I just knew it would come...and it hasn’t. Tonks, what if I am pregnant? This is the worst time to even think about having a baby. We still need to catch Peter, Sirius can’t be seen in public, and Voldemort is out there doing whatever he does. It's too dangerous.”
Tonks sat her teacup down and looked at you with her soothing calm expression.
“Y/n, Matilda was born during a huge time of uncertainty and you made it fine then. Maybe this is what Sirius and yourself need. He didn’t get to be a huge part of Matilda’s life due to no fault of his own. This could make up for lost time.”
Your heart swooned at the thought of Sirius actually getting to be a part of your child’s early life. That was something that you wanted from the beginning with Matilda. Your brain, however, was saying different things.
“Tonks, how am I going to explain who my baby’s father is if someone asks? There is no way that I can admit that. I would be putting Sirius and myself into Azkaban.”
Tonks crossed the room and wrapped her arms around you.
“Look at me. We are going to be putting Pettigrew into prison quickly. You’ll be able to say who the child’s father is with no problems. Neither Sirius nor yourself will be setting one foot back in that place. Now, how did you know that you were pregnant with Matilda.”
You calmed down enough to think back to that day…
Sirius and yourself had just returned from a trip to the Canary Islands. It was supposed to have been your honeymoon but the wedding had been pushed back. No one was really having any celebrations at this point. The two of you had only gone on vacations because if you didn’t go the money would have been lost.
“Pregnant.”
You read the pregnancy test over and over. Sirius came in the side door with James behind him. James was laughing hard about something.
“Good morning, love. Decide to wake up?”
Sirius asked before pulling you into a kiss. James rolled his eyes.
“Only the two of you go on a vacation then come back still all over each other.”
Sirius grinned and kissed your forehead.
“What do you have there?”
He asked, motioning to the object in your hand. You smiled before putting the test in his hand. Sirius was quiet for a moment before looking up with a huge smile.
“You’re pregnant? We’re going to have a baby?”
“Are you angry?”
You asked. Neither of you seemed to notice James who was almost eagerly jumping up and down. Sirius quickly pulled you into his arms.
“Are you kidding? I’m ecstatic! Love, I've never been happier.”
James finally couldn’t handle it.
“I have to go tell Lily! Our baby will have someone to play with!”
You were still in Sirius’ arms mid-kiss when James took off out the door like an overgrown child.
You pulled yourself from the memory and smiled.
“I just had a feeling...the same feeling that I have right now.”
Tonks smiled. She walked back into the hallway to fetch your raincoat before returning. She wrapped it around your shoulders before pressing a kiss to your cheek.
“Everything will be just fine. Now, I’m going to take you to the doctor and we are going to find out. We are going to find out.”
1 hour later…
“Pregnant! I knew it!”
Tonks squealed as the two of you walked back into Grimmauld Place. You hadn’t said much since the old witch said what your condition was. Stunned or scared was the best way to describe how you felt. You weren't sad or angry.
“I am telling you that you jinxed us.”
You said, forcing a smile. Tonks giggled.
“No, the two of you just can’t keep your paws off of each other. It's cute, though. Seeing the two of you happy. Since Sirius came back I have seen you happier than ever. It's nice. You’re my best friend, Y/n. I just want you to be happy.”
You felt better. Tonks always knew what to say to make you feel better.
When you walked into the kitchen, Sirius' eyes rolled up to yours.
“There you are, love. I was wondering where you went off to.”
You instantly froze. The last thing that you planned on was telling Sirius this quickly. You wanted to wait until he was in a really good mood. The expression on his face looked a bit off.
“I went out with Tonks for tea. Anything happen with Pettigrew?”
Sirius rolled his eyes and closed the newspaper in front of him.
“Bloody coward didn’t show. Remus and I sat there for four fucking hours for nothing. Waste of my time. I’m getting a bit frustrated. I was hoping to tear his leg off.”
He said, coldly. This definitely wasn’t a great time to be telling Sirius the “happy news.”
“I see. Well, I’ll leave you to it.”
Sirius raised an eyebrow. He knew that tone.
“What’s wrong?”
You turned, feeling the color fall from your face.
“Nothing. Everything is fine.”
Sirius sighed as Remus walked in. You internally groaned but it was probably best to tell them together. Maybe things would go better?
“Love, I have known your face since we were 11. What’s wrong?”
You pressed your lips together.
“I don’t want you to panic.”
Sirius leaned back in his chair crossing his arms over his chest. Remus had sat down beside his friend and was stirring a cup of tea.
“Conversations that start that way are concerning.”
You took a breath.
“Sirius…”
“Yeah, that’s my name. I would hope that you would know it.”
You held up a hand stopping his smirk. Sirius frowned. Whatever had you so worried was evidently not a laughing matter.
“Sweetheart?”
“I’m pregnant.”
Both Sirius and Remus froze. Remus knocked his teacup over and didn’t even seem to notice the liquid. You stood watching the two men that you loved more than any other.
“Sirius…”
“Are you sure?”
He asked. This was definitely news to him! The sane side of him was panicking! He was internally kicking his ass for not being more careful. Had he always been so desperate to get inside of you that he didn’t think of a simple charm to keep the two of you safe? Apparently so. Sirius had been behaving like an inexperienced teenager at the worst of times.
You, meanwhile, nodded.
“I know that it isn’t a good time but I am... I found out today.”
Sirius jumped up and pulled you into his arms. You pressed your face into his shoulder breathing in the scent of his cologne.
“Hush now. Everything is going to be fine. You know that I won’t let anything happen to you.”
Sirius said softly as he ran his fingers through your hair. Over your shoulder, he met Remus’ gaze. Without even speaking, Sirius knew that his friend was close to losing it too.
Sirius hadn’t even had a chance to tell you that Tonks was pregnant too. Remus had told him that morning during a full-fledged panic attack. Sirius had been relieved that it wasn’t him in that particular predicament.
I spoke too soon.
Sirius thought as he continued to comfort you.
“Everything will be alright.”
He said once more.
That night at dinner everyone was mostly quiet. You sat quietly at Sirius’ side looking up to meet Tonks gaze ever so often. She gave you a grin and went back to her dinner. You were still in slight shock over the fact that the two of you were pregnant at the same time.
Glancing at Sirius, you felt a bit guilty. You knew that he wasn’t thrilled with the news but he was too good of a man to say it. Maybe it wasn’t the fact that he wasn’t thrilled it was more the fact that he was worried about your safety. You were waiting for him to tell you that he wanted you to stop working as an auror. That would be coming soon.
“So, what’s going on?”
Matilda’s voice pulled you from your thoughts. You looked up to meet your daughter’s gaze. Both she and Harry sat looking around the room at each adult present.
Matilda had put together that something was going on from the moment that she sat down for dinner. Her mother and father were barely speaking to each other. The expressions on your face was nothing short of worry while Sirius looked almost blank. His eyes would periodically flicker to you before looking away.
You glanced over at Sirius. The two of you hadn’t even really discussed when to tell Matilda and Harry. They would definitely find out in time but telling them too early could make things more complicated. Sirius’ gave you a nod.
“Matilda, Harry...I’m pregnant. I just found out today.”
Harry instantly smiled.
“Congratulations!”
Matilda, meanwhile, sat looking between Sirius and yourself like both of you had gone crazy. Her dark eyes flickered between the two of you with nothing short of annoyance.
“Are you two barking mad? Having a baby right now? This is so insane!”
Matilda didn’t wait for Sirius nor yourself to say anything before storming out of the room. You stood to go after her but Sirius held his hand out.
