Renal clearance

Volume of plasma that is completely removed from a given substance.

Indicates whether a substance is filtered, reabsorbed, and/or secreted.

It is calculated according to the Fick Principle, which states: The amount of substance that enters the kidney is equal to the amount of substance that leaves it.

Renal blood flow

Volume of blood that flows through the kidneys per minute (mL/min).

Typically 20-25% of total cardiac output.

Renal blood plasma

Volume of renal blood plasma that flows through the kidneys per minute (mL/min)

Plasma is the aqueous portion of the blood.

Renal Physiology

So I have my renal physiology exam tomorrow morning. Am I ready? Fuck if I know. All I do know is that studying nonstop has to pay off eventually, and in the past few weeks, it really hasn't (I'm looking at you, Orgo). By the way, the Final for this class is on Monday. Seriously? A final the Monday after the last hour exam on a Friday. That shit is brutal. Oh well. Come at me PGY 451!!!
