All Our Yesterdays: Day 204
“NHS DOCTORS BULLIED TO THE BRINK. Tory austerity forces medics to work excessive hours …and quit in droves”
So much for the crocodile tears of the Tory Party!
Remember Jeremy Hunt promising a “truly seven day NHS”? The implication being that NHS staff were somehow falling short in providing health care 7 days a week. This was Tory party politics at its worse. As the headline above shows, doctors (and others within the health service) were already working "excessive hours" due to staff shortages brought about by the Tory policy of Austerity.
NHS staff have worked selflessly throughout this pandemic despite Tory government incompetence. In some cases they have literally given their lives for us. Is it any wonder that we are now seeing headlines like this?
“Warning As Thousands Of NHS Doctors On Brink Of Exhaustion.”
Boris Johnson’s response to this? Let’s tear up the NHS reforms introduced just a decade ago and reorganise the NHS in the middle of a pandemic. Sod the staff that are already “on the brink of exhaustion." Lets give them some extra work to cope with, and while we are about it lets make sure it is US, the politicians, who have ultimate control and power over decision making within the NHS.
The NHS does need an overhaul but now is not the time. Given the track record of government decisions regarding the pandemic, granting politicians central control of the NHS will prove to be another disaster waiting to happen.
