[AU] Spoils of War

The war had ended, that much was clear, it had and at first id didn’t make sense. One minute they were supposed to be guarded through their teeth and the next there was nothing to be afraid off. It messed with one’s quality of live and sanity.
She had lost many people through the war, she had lost Reg and Sirius, even Alice but what she didn’t expect was to lose Ted. Ted was the only beacon of hope in the midst of a terrible world. He was good and sweet while everyone let their worst version out.
The letter came vial formal owl, Ted never used the Ministry owls, they had a rather ruddy and old one at the department and this was certainly not it, however she didn’t pay much attention until she opened.
The handwriting was unfamiliar, too formal to be Ted’s or anyone she knew, it had a purplish tint and she would never forget the words it carried:
Mrs Tonks,
We are sorry to inform you that there was an attack on the Muggle Liaison office and that in said attack, our Auror team has manage to caught the culprit however I’m afraid to say that Mr Edward Tonks didn’t survive the attack.
We are diligently sending the remains to St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries to be examined.
We are deeply sorry for your loss, Mr Tonks was a great employee and outstanding co-worker and he would not be forgotten.

Andromeda couldn’t believe it, she just couldn’t, there must be a mistake, someone had mistake Ted with someone else, there had to be, in that office worked at least 10 wizards, they could have mixed them up, couldn’t they? It didn’t occur to her that Richard did actually know Ted, she had to make sure for herself, she had to.
She promptly took her cloak from the hanger, she couldn’t apparate, not in that state. But she could take the Knight Bus, yes.
Andromeda was so occupied in her plan to arrive to the Ministry that she rushed to the door, only to bump into someone on her way out.
