Reportager Award Exhibition 2015
So I had a great time at the Reportager Award Exhibition on Monday night! I was really impressed by the range and the quality of work at the exhibition and am so grateful to everybody involved for the opportunity. It was great to see such a big gathering of reportage artists and having the chance to mingle with everybody and share ideas was brilliant.
This is me with my work, printed just under their original size. And also just a picture of my work, incase my face offends you too much.
I was really inspired by the work there, and getting to talk to the artists themselves was really great too. Location drawing tips were being spread everywhere, so instead of losing drawings to the wind next time I’m on the island, I’ll just invest in some better bulldog clips (Thanks, Lucinda Rogers).
There was a few bits of work that particularly sparked my interest. There was a great range at the exhibition, so my taste for monochromatic texture is showing through, but here’s some close ups of work I’ll probably be referring to in the near future: (by Leah Fusco and Lucy Runge)
I think what I’ve cottoned on to, is the use of contrasting tone and texture in imagery. I’ve always struggled a bit with tone but I’m so intrigued by it. I’ll be referring back to old life drawing lessons and exercises next time I’m on location to help bring this out. Looking at the descriptions of these projects and the process that made them has been really interesting too. It’s going to be nice to get back on location over the next few days!
So, thanks, everybody who run the Award and helped out at the exhibition, and anybody who was interested enough to see our work! It’s wonderful to be even considered in the same category as the people at this exhibition, so I’m very happy!
