#representation please

I’m reading a book for my book club, it’s really good

It’s fantasy, there’s magic, and I am in love with one of the main characters.

This character has (had) a childhood friend that she spent all her time with and they are written to be very affectionate with one another.

Enter main character: she’s cool, she’s pretty, and she has the princess kinda starstruck because (get this) MC is magical!!! whOooOOo!!

So now MC, princess, and MC’s (frankly annoying) brother are on this magical quest and MC and princess are pretending to be rivals and secretly getting lost in each other’s eyes (this is in canon) and in each other’s smiles BUT I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THEY WILL END UP WITH EACH OTHER’S BROTHERS AND IT WILL SUCK AND MY HEART WILL BE SAD BECAUSE I JUST WANT SOME MAGICAL GAYS PLEASE

Not that magical straights aren’t entirely valid I just want a little drop of representation here because I can’t find ANY

I feel like wlw isn’t represented right. I know that's kinda like a “you're stating the obvious” thing, but I've watched some stuff and I feel like despite the progress mlm make wlw community is still so far behind. For instance, the hospital drama “the night shift” has a main protagonist in a mlm relationship and it explores everything to do with that, fights, what its like being mlm and in the military, dorky hijinks, marriage, adoption, etc but when they do finally have a wlw relationship its for one episode and I'm pretty sure one of the girls dies.

And, as I mentioned, I watched Dickenson today, and I went into it super psyched for a wlw relationship representation and instead, I got like 3ish episodes of wlw and then the rest was...not that, not to say that Emily and ben’s relationship wasn’t fun, free, and radical in and of itself but I felt like Emily’s wlwingness (does that make sense?) was used as a plot device for putting her into a hetero relationship rather than being an important part of who she was/is. Which was very frustrating, I really love that mlm are making such important strides in representation and being able to see themselves be accepted or just see themselves on screen, but at the same time I really wish there was more and better representation of wlw even just so that I wouldn’t have spent so much time as a younger me confused and miserable when I thought that het was the only viable option. 

I don’t really know what I’m saying anymore but I do know that I have emotions and they are kinda frustrated.

I want more YA fiction with Jewish characters

not YA time traveling fiction Jews going back to Shoah times or historical fiction during the Shoah, but Jews doing secular things and then also Jewish things! Teenagers who happen to be Jewish!
