Unpopular Opinions
I got tagged by thepineapplering to do this fun tag. (So unexpected, but I'm honored! I love your blog!) Also, sorry this took me a while, this really made me think. So the point is to share 5 unpopular opinions you may have about anything and then tag 10 people you'd like to do the same. If you do it, tag me in it so I can read your response!
1) I don't think that eating cereal without milk is awful. In fact, I enjoy eating it like that occasionally. With milk on the side. Drinking it while I eat the cereal out of the bowl. As an afternoon snack. Perfectly okay.
2) On a related note, I pronounce the word "milk," as "MELK." No one else in my family says it like this. And yes, I pronounce the word "silk" so that it rhymes with the correct pronunciation of "milk" in case you were wondering. But I find that regional differences and accents in speech are really interesting. And if they aren't grammatically incorrect, can be rather endearing. So I don't think there's a "proper" way of speaking. As long as your ideas are communicated and understood by your intended audience, then I think you're golden.
3) I believe that people can change their minds. I feel like the world is progressively becoming more and more aware of the lives and opinions of its inhabitants. And while in many ways this is marvelous and fantastic for recognizing and establishing human rights and building a global community, I think that we often get caught up in what people say. And precisely how they said it. Arguments go back and forth because we continue reiterating previous points and it's no longer a matter of educating others, but of winning. I think that when a discussion is finished, both sides should have learned something. And if someone's opinion has changed, then that should be respected as valid.
4) I find the assignment of gender on objects to be ridiculous. Every time I walk by the toy section of a store, I cringe at the subliminal messages. Barbies, baby dolls, and play kitchens are displayed on shelves with pink backgrounds for little girls to enjoy. And all the blue shelves hold the Nerf guns, superhero action figures, and toy cars for the boys. Not to mention how there are different expectations for scents of hygiene products for men and women. If you like how something smells, regardless of your gender, why should you feel ashamed for liking it and purchasing it for yourself? I know that this norm is seeing some shifts, but come on.
5) I find fictional love triangles to be tiresome. I think I just don't find them that realistic. Or maybe I just can't relate to them since I've never encountered this situation in real life. But mainly, they are awfully predictable. And if it isn't predictable, then you can count on getting upset since your favorite romantic interest didn't get their happily ever after.
Wow. So that's the first time I've done a tag. Hope it was kind of interesting. I also don't know if these are actually unpopular opinions, but they're some that I've had some disagreements with others over.
Well, I'm kind of unsure of who to tag since I don't really want to bother anyone. So please don't feel compelled to do this, but it would be fun to see what you think! I'm tagging foothills-and-warmth , illrememberthis , uniquelyshe , yoopertuber , morgan-christian , katiedubielak , and anybody else interested! Sorry I didn't tag ten, but it's not really my thing.
