Requesting Advice for Tutoring ADHD Kid

hey tumblr… know this is pretty outside of my usual postings but i wanted to reach out and see if i got any advice from someone with real first-hand experience.

i’m a tutor and these parents have asked me to help their 10 year old with her maths and english. she’s super bright, they’re trying to get her into a competitive selective school in our area and i have experience with the entrance exams and the topics. she’s ADHD, and having worked with her so far getting her to focus is hard. she’s transitioning from group sessions with me to one on one to get that reinforcement, and i really want to do right by her. dad is pushy and frustrated she can’t just concentrate to do better, while mum recognises she can’t help it and this school isn’t the be all end all.

any tips to make it easier on her? they’re having me sit with her for 2 hours at a time and i’ve already requested that be extended to 2.5 hours to allow for movement breaks in between. they’ve agreed. i just really don’t want her to internalise that’s she’s lazy or not good enough, which is the vibe i’m getting so far from dad. i know what that’s like, but being autistic myself, my issues with focus have always been so different, and what worked for me as a kid hasn’t worked with her so far.
