So, I've re-redesigned it since I didn't like the old one, tbh. Since it felt meh, and to close looking to *who shall not be named*'s villain, so did a redesign that I definitely found better.

Tbh I feel she looks better here. Redid the sword too since I wanted it to look cooler.

I apologize for my spelling mistakes but yeah her lore is the same along with her name.

Sailor Mercury!

Okay so.... I like my Sailor moon 1930s redesigns but I don't Love my 1930s Sailor Moon redesigns... so I kept thinking about it and then I had a lightbulb moment. What is a Japanese fashion movement that is all about enjoying the feminine, dressing to express yourself, embracing sparkles and ruffles and cute accessories? Lolita fashion. (It has nothing to do with the book always search Lolita fashion & not just Lolita they are very different)

Even better there is an entire sub-sub-genre of Lolita fashion that is sailor inspired so I had a lot of fun. All the fun.

Jasmine's Iconic Outfit - Ottoman Fashion

Most redesigns of Aladdin set the story in the Ottoman Empire... this is the route the Glamour “Historian Fact Checks Aladdin’s Wardrobe” and most reimaginings of Jasmine in general based on it's publication/history. But as you're probably aware both movies by Disney are examples of white people mixing and generalizing different cultures together.... the 1992 Aladdin bold-face cites Persia, the Ottoman Empire and India as inspirations for the movie... and the 2019 takes those generalizations and ADDS a Burmese monastery, Marrakesh (Morocco - the movie was nearly filmed there but that wouldn't have been "original" enough), Jordan, Namibia and more- are all things the set designer actively lists in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. (and that's not even getting into the generalizations, too much of the movie is obviously jumbled together in ways that are deeply frustrating and Orientalist). Aladdin wears a vest-hoodie for crying out loud and Jasmine wears heart jewelry so fake it burns.

Anyway this redesign is based on Ottoman miniatures with only the shape of her jewelry and color choices referencing her Disney Movie outfit.

“Was Jasmine Ever Speechless” a great video essay on the story & personality changes in the 2019 movie by MelinaPendulum. “The new live action Aladdin seeks to break Hollywood stereotypes with mixed results” - Evelyn Alsultany “It doesn’t matter that an Arab will play Aladdin” by Khaled A Beydoun (while everyone can agree the POC cast is a win - the problems with Aladdin are structural & were either ignored or expanded on in the 2019 movie) Also watch Aladdin 1992’s documentary “A Dinamond in the Rough: The Making of...” to be shocked some of the behind the scenes content.

and finally ~ Sailor Moon!

These were really fun to redesign. I had such a great time researching Lolita fashion and finding ways to express the characters through the fashion was fantastic. A challenge and a joy all in one. Clearly I missed drawing girls in pretty dresses - all these Princes are cramping my style ;)

I very much enjoyed keeping her shoes the same as her OG design. For Sailor Jupiter I did one very-feminine version and one sporty-sailor version.

Now Sailor Mars was the one Sailor Scout.. who was just not feeling the Lolita style and we had many discussions about how to compromise her fashion with Lolita fashion. This was the result!

And... yes.... I have gone ahead and done a sailor-inspired and an other-lolita-fashion-look for all of these re-redesigns.
