Imagine they had each other during the resonance cascade. Now imagine Gordon passes out. (probably from the morphine) Power armor makes a grown man pretty heavy and Barney can’t carry him, but he wouldn’t leave him behind. So he finds somewhere moderately safe and sits down against a wall, holding his companion in his lap. He cries, scared and angry, clutching his only semblance of normalcy to his chest like that’s the only thing keeping him alive as he watches hell unfold around him. (And they’re both boys)
