Rescued By Ruby

Ok this movie I watched was so excellent I have to convince y'all to go watch it so here’s a spoiler-free movie review.

To start off, one thing I really liked about the movie is the main character, Daniel O’Connel, has is both hyperactive and dyslexic. Now, unlike most movies or shows where its more implied and never actually talked about, this movie does! Several times! Daniel is constantly tapping his leg and has a variety of fidget spinners. When he has nothing to do he runs laps around his car. He’s impulsive, one-tracked, and struggles with rejection. He can’t read. Throughout the movie, these traits both shown as something that hinders Daniel, and something that gives him drive. He has incredible talent in many things, but sometimes the thing he specifically wants to do is made difficult by his hyperactivity and dyslexia as well. And, this is partially mirrored in the dog he begins to train. He uses his own experiences to relate to her, and she helps him understand himself better too.

Unlike most movies, this movie shows community in an exemplary way, and is void of unnecessary tension. There are about an equal amount of male and female characters, and Daniel and his wife are good friends with all of them. With his coworkers there's no vicious competition, but true camaraderie and support. Though there are several women, there is only one love interest and that is his WIFE. He only has eyes for her and its beautifully evident. His superiors and mentors do a fine job of encouraging him when they can and being firm when they need to. 

And yes, I did say wife, because surprise Disney! not every grand story has to include finding the love of your life, sometimes it’s about working through the journey with them. And while the dog is initially a minor point of tension, its never “it’s the dog or me.” Instead it’s “this is your dream so it’s my dream too and I will work with you to help you and understand your dream better.” SO GOOD.

Fourth point; there's a dog. There's several dogs. 

Finally, there is a plot twist that might have you smiling at the very end ;). Or crying. Like me. 

Anyways! Such a good movie, about struggles, about camaraderie, and about a dog. So go watch and please let me know if you enjoyed!

Sometimes a film comes along that absolutely blows you away with how it could possibly be a true story. Shelter dog saved from being put down by a kennel worker, rescued by a K-9 man to train as a search and rescue dog, then later ends up saving the life of the lady’s son who saved her life in the past. I would say it’s an incredibly cheesy plot but it actually happened. Wild.
