There are many difficult and sad moments in our foundation life, but there are also happy ones — and those are the ones we love sharing the most :-)

After many discussions, extra fox-proofing, three years without a fox incident, and buying a bigger coop, we decided to welcome some new chickens.

Welcome on board, little ones!

For now, just a small sneak peek — more about our new residents soon.

At the moment they are still so scared that they run away as soon as they see us. We don’t know what they have been through before, but it probably wasn’t anything good.

They don’t know it yet, but they have just won the lottery. They will have a peaceful life, space to simply be chickens, and they will be loved.

That is a lot for an ordinary chicken.

FREEDOM! We are overjoyed to introduce five hens who were rescued by activists on the 4th of July from a cage-free egg facility in Northern CA. Please welcome Liberty, Rosie, Stevie, Glory, and Michelle (named after our co-founder’s step-mom who is a 4th of July baby herself)! As you can see, these girls are in rough shape as they haven’t spent time in the sunshine, have internal parasites, and are very thin. They’re quarantined for now until they’re healthy enough to join the flock, and we already love them so much!
