Notice Crommy’s model “sit.” It is because of your generosity that pigs like Cromwell, who were destined for slaughter, have safe permanent homes here at Blackberry Creek. Cromwell’s pregnant mother literally jumped off the slaughter truck onto the freeway to save him and his siblings. Because of his large size and some genetic factors, Cromwell and his brothers need intensive lifelong hoof care. Three to four times a year they are sedated by our veterinarian, the cracks in their hooves dremeled out, and any infection treated. They also receive pain medication post-procedure. To help this process be safer and easier, we are building a veterinary chute and medical stall to aid in lower stress treatment for them and a safe, cozy, isolated place to recover.
