Isadora Performance

The first research came from my favorite area-Interactive Video Projection. So I found a work by artist Okzide, which uses a combination of Isadora and Xbox Kinect. The video as a quick demo shows how he used these two technologies to achieve interactive video projection.

The reason why I researched it was that I had studied and tried Isadora. When I used it, it made me very excited. It attracted me to continue to create more fresher products and updated interactions works. So this led me to the first initial idea about graduation design: using Isadora and Arduino to create interactive work.

Nevertheless, when I decided on my graduation project idea, I gave up the idea. Due to severe COVID-19, the loan store of the school was closed for a long time, making it impossible for me to borrow Isadora computer and Arduino to start the creation. Also, the technical requirements for this project are relatively high, and the design of the content also requires a certain amount of experience and insights, which is slightly more difficult for me at present.

Kindle apps are native to each device, with the exception of kindle cloud reader which is a web app with offline storage. These apps offer a seamless experience of being able to read your kindle books on any device with app installed.

I can look to this model for inspiration for my work because the data is sycronised across all device and the experience on each device is very similar (in contrast to Amazon, where the experience differs due to the volume of information and the screen real estate available).

This model is highly relevant to my work because I want to maximise functionality by building native apps but syncronise data across all apps.

Apps for Good works with school pupils and unemployed teenagers, to enhance their skills and confidence in digital technology, by making it, not just using it.

Foundation Stage Curriculum

My son is due to start Reception in September and the school invited all the parents of new starters into the school yesterday to meet the teachers and find out more about what what will happen next year. One aspect of this was an outline of the Foundation Stage Curriculum, which is changing slightly from September and was particularly interesting to me in light of my Major Study work.

There are three prime areas of focus:

Communication and Language

Physical development

Personal, social and emotional development

These are underpinned by four specific areas for Reception children:

Literacy

Mathematics

Understanding the world

Expressive arts and design

There are multiple ways that children develop skills in these areas both in and out of the classroom and the apps I am developing should be one aspect of that experience. My ideas already have a strong focus on literacy and maths, and some aspects of my recent ideas link to developments in understanding the world and expressive arts and design. I will explore this further as I continue to define the functionality of my apps and try to ensure there is a balance of these areas where possible.
