You have to sort all your characters into a new Hogwarts House instead of whichever one they were in originally. Which houses do they go into?

so I'm only doing this with my hp cast because I don't wanna cross contaminate but I have actually put a lot of thought into this since secondary houses are SUPER helpful for figuring out how a character acts.

Theo in Not (Our Parents)' Children and most of the Adjacent fics is a Slytherin main with a Hufflepuff secondary, but in Hyacinth his secondary is Ravenclaw. Hyacinth Theo would peel you like an orange and then pin you on his wall. I love him.

Fay is a rough one, because I like my girls well rounded and she could go anywhere - Gryffindor Main, and usually Slytherin as her secondary, but in No Matter How Tainted I think she's a Ravenclaw secondary? She's very loyal to her friends, in all iterations, but specifically in No Matter How Tainted and in Forest Folk, she's curious. A schemer, yes, but the schemes come as a means to sate her curiosity, so in those aus I think she'd be Ravenclaw.

Blaise's secondary I usually have foil Theo's - so in NOPC and Adjacent he's Ravenclaw secondary and in Hyacinth he's Hufflepuff secondary.

For my wbwl au twins - Delphi is sorted Puff, but her secondary would be Gryffindor. Connor, Sorrel, Tristan, and William are all Gryffindor Mains, but Connor's secondary would be Hufflepuff. Sorrel's secondary is Slytherin and he canonically was upset that he got sorted Gryffindor instead, because he's a little compulsive liar and he wanted to be in the house of sneakiness and lies, where he thought he might fit in a little better. Tristan... I don't know. Maybe he'd be a Ravenclaw second? Tristan is from the au where Harry died and haunts his twin as a ghost only Tristan can see, so Tristan has a vested interest in learning things, specifically necromancy, but I don't know if that's enough to make him a Ravenclaw? He also has major trust issues and most of the school thinks he hallucinates. He could go to Hufflepuff if the Hat is like 'oh my goodness if you don't get friends stat I think you'll destroy yourself or the world'. Tristan is not allowed in Slytherin though. He would create too much chaos. William... Ravenclaw. He's canonically an Encyclopedia Brown fan and he spends his free time reading cold cases, there's no where else to put him. Well, no, an argument could be made for Huffllepuff because he learns about Harry and is instantly on his side and Harry's ardent defenders (please note Harry is actively committing war crimes and terrorism during this).

Harry can go in any house, if I want him to, he's Gryffindor canonically and his canonical secondary house is Slytherin, I've put him in Slytherin in a lot of aus, but he's Ravenclaw in Anethrystic, and I know I have a hufflepuff Harry au somewhere... I think the miraculous crossover he's a puff, and I think he's a puff in the fic where Luna is his and Ron's age - specifically Luna was aged up, Harry wasn't aged down.

I also want to note that I think Lavender and Parvati are Ravenclaw Secondaries, because they're both really smart and totally get into topics that they care about and want to get into.

I've been thinking a lot about Harry Potter for my own reasons, and what if in like 4th year, every student was sorted again? Sure, you'd have a good chunk of students stay the same, but a lot of people would change.

Like, nobody is the same person that they are when they're 11. Maybe someone who went into Ravenclaw discovers hidden cunning, or maybe they just don't like spending all day with a bunch of bookworms. Maybe a Gryffindor discovers that yeah, they're brave, but they'd really prefer a house with less of a reputation for loudness and messes.

AND! it would help with unity. Friend groups would get disrupted since people get shuffled, but the true friend groups would find a way and new friends would be formed.

Becky: “There’s something in my subconscious that makes me think I’m safe when I’m wrapped in as many layers as possible.” She was wearing – I say “wearing” because it literally did not separate from her when she walked to the pencil sharpener – three shawls, three blankets, a bathrobe, leggings, leg warmers, pajama pants, two pairs of socks, slippers, a long-sleeved shirt, an undershirt, and a sweater.

“You’re not doing this because you’re cold?” I asked skeptically.

“I wasn’t.”

“And you’re not overheated now?”

“No,” she said, blithely expressionless.

I sat in the recliner, pulled its blanket over me, and shook my head.  “You could bring some blankets to Stella at the hospital.  She’d like that, and you have the experience to wrap her up well.”

“You’re right,” she said, marking a college-ruled sheet of notes in between glances at her book.  “I should ask Aunt Alexandra about whether there’s any shawl or blanket in particular that she’d like.”

“We’ll make it a surprise,” I said.  “We won’t call Stella.  She’ll like that, too.”

[later]

Dr. __ said, “You can bring a sweater and other clothes from home, you know.”

We all stared at her.  Stella, as usual, voiced us before we could recollect our consciousnesses.  “That’s funny,” she smiled.  “I think we all viewed the hospital gown standard as inviolable.”

First thing when you got to a hospital, after triage, you got a gown.  That was before the doctor saw you, before you got a CT scan or an electrocardiogram.  In order to be treated, to be a part of the hospital, you absolutely had to wear the gown, tie it around your waist and neck – or ask someone else to help you if you couldn’t.  It was like the army; you were required to wear the gown.  Wear it or else not be treated – that was the requirement.  But once you became a resident of sorts, established in your plastic throne, reminiscent of aeronautic technology, then you were awarded stuff from home to make you feel at home, signs of endurance, like a Purple Heart in the armed forces, or the Croix de Guerre in France.

Bill - Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff

Bill was described as laid-back and easy-going, but also brave considering his career as a curse-breaker and position in the Order. He was a great student with great grades and it’s implied that he took his studies seriously. He also held loyalty in regard, shown when Ron left Harry and Hermione in DH, but he was understanding and compassionate towards Ron also

While I understand the choice to place him in Gryffindor, I think he could have been better suited to Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff

Charlie - Dragons 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🐉🐲

We see a lot less of Charlie than the other Weasley children. We know he loves magical creatures and dragons in particular, and Ron tells us that he’s outdoorsy. He was friendly, although he can lose his temper.

Percy - Slytherin

I get why the obvious answer could have been Ravenclaw, but I wholeheartedly think Percy is Slytherin. For the record, this isn’t a case of “I don’t like this character and Slytherin is an evil house,” because 1) I love Percy, and 2) I am Slytherin myself. Percy’s character largely revolves around his ambition which is a Slytherin trait. He has set goals for himself academically and in his career, and he will do whatever he must to achieve those goals, including spending all his time studying/working and kissing up to his teachers/bosses

Fred - Slytherin

Fred was the more daring twin which is a Gryffindor trait, but he was also very determined which is a Slytherin trait. He was the first to forgive Percy after everything happened which would suggest patience and fairness, Hufflepuff traits. Along with George, he invented a variety of products for their shops which showed creativity, a Ravenclaw trait. Really, Fred’s a good candidate for any house, but I would put him in Slytherin ultimately. He was resourceful in finding ways to create products, determined to sell their products despite what Molly said, cunning in the way he worked and certainly ambitious. I actually think that Percy and Fred were quite similar in this way. They both had goals they wanted to achieve and would stop at nothing to achieve them, it’s just that their goals sent them down different paths

George - Hufflepuff

The twins are very alike in many ways, but they are not the same person. Over the books, George is the quieter, gentler twin. While he has an extremely similar sense of humour to Fred, his jokes are usually softer (can’t think of a better word). He was courageous (Gryffindor) as his family were in the way he defied Voldemort and fought in the Battle of Hogwarts, he was extremely creative (Ravenclaw) in the way he was able to think up and create his products for WWW, and cunning (Slytherin) in the way he worked with Fred to develop their products in secret. That said, I would ultimately put George in Hufflepuff. Hufflepuffs are hard-working and that certainly explains George and the way he works with WWW, he’s loyal to his family and Fred in particular. Honestly, he’s just the sweetest

Ron - Gryffindor

My love, my life. Where to put you? We know more about Ron than the others, of course, because he’s the most present as Harry’s best friend. Like every other Weasley, he was put in Gryffindor. Throughout the series, he stuck by Harry through thick and thin and showed fierce loyalty which is very Hufflepuff of him. (Note: this might be questioned because of him leaving Harry and Hermione in DH, but I think it’s worth noting that it’s stated that the Horcrux did affect him far worse than Hermione and Harry, and that he stormed off in a huff, but the moment he left, he wanted to come back. Haven’t a lot of people stormed off in anger at some point only to regret it? Difference here is that Ron had no way of getting back, but he kept searching until he found them) Ron was an excellent chess player, a game which required wit (a Ravenclaw trait). I would say he rightfully belongs in Gryffindor. He showed courage throughout the series, even as young as he was in PS when he sacrificed himself so that Harry could go on. I’m not saying Ron was fearless. In fact, he was quite fearful a lot of the time, but that’s why his acts of bravery were so bold - because he was terrified but he did it anyway

Ginny - Gryffindor

Ginny had a very witty sense of humour, an indicator of Ravenclaw. She was a good liar, hinting at a cunning nature which points towards Slytherin. She was bold and daring, and she was difficult to intimidate which is very Gryffindor. She’s also patient and understanding, shown especially by her quick acceptance of Harry breaking up with her at the end of HBP, which is very Hufflepuff of her. Like Ron, I think Ginny is one of the only Weasleys who really did work in Gryffindor, though. Of all her traits, her daring and boldness are the most prominent, but Hufflepuff is a super close second
