One nice thing about getting older is you get less unsolicited advice. I just gotta make sure I don’t fall into the trap of trying to ‘help’ people when I’m really only talking to my past self. It’s tempting because people really do mean well but so often advice boils down to “be more like me” or at least “be more like this ideal version of me”.
The problem is maybe I don’t want to be like you or live like you. And I mean that respectfully and in a positive way.
You can be awesome and happy and beautiful and kind in a way that is completely different from me. Because we are different.
Sorry about the rant. Can you tell I’ve been treated like a child recently.
*Also, I believe this applies extra for children. We should be helping them to figure out who they are rather than mold them into who we wish we were. I’ve seen too many young people destroyed by adults with good intentions.
