David Benavidez stops Anthony Yarde in the 7th!

Benavidez gets his first stoppage up at 175lbs in a complete mop job. Well not compete. Yarde had a couple moments where he seemed to actually hurt Benavidez but otherwise, Benavidez folded him. Not sure what the game was for Yarde. Lots of pitter pat arm punching trying to hide big shots but really just allowed for Benavidez to get downhill along the ropes and put together long combos. At one point, Benavidez was holding Yarde by the shoulder/neck and just unleashing huge left hands. Some old school 50s type boxing. Gotta love it!

Benavidez defends his WBC Light Heavyweight title. Hopefully he fights a Bivol or Beterbiev next year. I see he's talking about moving up to 200lbs but if he wants to establish himself as a P4Per - that route is unification at 175lbs.

Justin Gaethje takes MD over Rafael Fiziev

1. That should have been five rounds.

2. Someone scored that a draw?

Amazing scrap between Fiziev and Gaethje that somehow goes the distance. Fiziev got off to a hot start and had a really great idea of attacking Gaethje to the body like Poirier and Alvarez did. Invested a lot into body kicks and knees in the clinch. Did a great job in the pocket early. But as the fight started to move on, Gaethje started getting his reads and Fiziev got more complacent sitting in rage. Gaethje started getting the last word in exchanges and by the third was completely drawing out reactions from Fiziev with his jab. Fiziev would go to slip to the inside and then eat an uppercut from Gaethje’s read hand. That must have worked like 4-5 separate times in round 3. One other thing is Fiziev throws everything at max speed. That’s tiring in these types of fights where the other guy is going to keep the pace up and look to exchange whenever you try to engage. Plus it makes you easier to read. Gaethje, even though he had eaten like 40 kicks to the body, understood how to fight tired while Fiziev was trying to fight like the third round was the first round. Great performance from Gaethje to reestablish himself as a top 5 fighter at 155.

The problem with Garbrandt has never been that he’s “chinny.” It’s been his primary response to being hit clean is to try to get it back by planting his feet and swinging for the heavens. All the Font fight showed was that Mark Henry has Garbrandt working on disengaging in those situations and trying to wrestle more. Font, unlike TJ or Munhoz, doesn’t get into shootouts in the pocket.

Kai Kara-France does though. So this should be fun.

Luana Santos puts Melissa Croden in head lock for like 10 minutes.

That was...yeah. Santos picks up the win and not much else as she sits in that scarf hold position for long stretches of the fight while Croden struggles to get to her knees to get up or get out.

David Onama takes UD over Jonathan Pearce.

Onama is slowly but surely getting better fight to fight. Still has some really clean hands, particularly with the jab. Was catching Pearce repeatedly with it at range and would go southpaw to throw that cross too. Pearce managed to get Onama down multiple times, even taking his back a bunch but Onama was surprisingly adept at getting Pearce's back to the mat and then spinning around to end up in top position inside guard. He had about 5 reversals overall through the fight. Small waist and a terrific athleticism definitely helps. And while Pearce was able to get him down a bunch, Onama's jab made it hard for Pearce to pressure for 15 minutes straight.

A good growth fight for Onama.

Marcus McGhee stops Gaston Bolaños in the 2nd!

A great performance from Marcus McGhee as he stops Bolanos in the 2nd. Wish commentary would stop pretending Bolanos is like a former Glory champion or something. 3 fights, 3 stoppage wins for McGhee. Dude is a fantastic athlete and has some great punch selection.
