You ever watch the Sanrio anime Aggretsuko? I’ve watched season 1 on Netflix at least 3 times already...
This seriously makes me reevaluate my life. Like, I don’t want to end up like Retsuko. Hating my job and what not, getting so desperate to get out that I try to find a guy who’s loaded to marry. That’s, like, rock bottom.
Retsuko really does resonate with me. I understand feeling like I have no other option than to stay where I am. A similar situation came about in 2017 when I was pregnant with my daughter. I was working customer service for a cell phone company, and I hated it more than any job I have ever had. I hated their policies, I hated the customers, I hated the schedules they had... I literally woke up every morning hoping I would feel so I would have a reason to call out. There were several times where a customer was being so awful to me that I almost hung up and walked out. But I stuck around for a year and a half. Why?
Because it was the most well-paying job I’d ever had. I could pay all of my bills (well, I paid half, my boyfriend paid the other half) and I still had enough spending money to do whatever. Plus I had full coverage health insurance that was completely paid for by my company. It was the perfect set up. From a logical stand point, it made sense to just suck it up and stay there. But then I would think of my mom, and how often she came home when I was a kid talking about how much she hated work. How she was so stressed out because she was taking jobs that paid decently, but she hated getting up to go there every day.
So I quit. I had my baby, I enjoyed my time off for about 5 months... Now I’m over here rethinking my life because of an anime (among other things that I’ll probably get to in a later post). I miss having a job. Not only because of the income, but because it gives me a reason to leave the house and interact with people that AREN’T living with me.
Here are my problems:
-Between my boyfriend and I, we have 1 car. PLUS we can’t afford to get a second car. So if he’s using the car to get to work, then I have no car to get to work. I could take an Uber or Lyft, but that’s just money we could be using for something else.
-He works a 930am-545pm schedule, which wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t take him 1 whole hour going to work and coming back. So between his commute and the 8 hours he has to spend at work, he’s pretty much gone all day.
-We don’t have anyone to watch the baby. As of right now, she’s 8 months old. Most daycares won’t take kids under 1 year; and the places that do take kids under 1 year usually cost a lot more (I’ve worked in childcare before). Not to mention the fact that kids constantly get sick when in daycare. Sickness poses 2 problems: A. The kid being sick is hard on the kid, and B. With the kid being sick, it means one of us would have to miss work until the kid is well enough to go back to daycare. Most work places have a limit to how many days you can miss.
-Alternatively, a family member could watch the baby. BUT most of our family works, minus my boyfriend’s mother. Originally she was going to watch the baby when I went back to work, but my boyfriend’s step-douche literally told her that she was not allowed to watch the baby under ANY circumstances. (Fucking prick). So that option is a no-go.
-I’ve searched ever possible work from home option available. 95% of them are on the phone customer service jobs... which I can’t do. Why? Those jobs require that you have a quiet home while you work. I live with: 3 people, 1 baby and 4 (sometimes 5) dogs.
Anyways... I think I’ve ranted enough. Maybe. Who knows? My career is something that is causing me a lot of stress right now. I will probably do multiple rants about this until the issue is resolved.
