French poet Pierre Reverdy
I read this Kenneth Rexroth translation of Pierre Reverdy yesterday. In his introduction, Rexroth writes that Reverdy was a cubist poet. Cubist poetry being: “the conscious, deliberate dissociation and recombination of elements into a new artistic entity made self-sufficient by its rigorous architecture.” He put this in opposition to the free association of the surrealist writing from the same time period. I’m conflicted on the importance of poetics to gather a meaning from a text, leaning more toward Rosenblatt’s transactional model of reading, and what is literary theory if not a way to read? Anyway, I haven’t read Reverdy in probably 30+ years. It was fun, and challenging, and worth the effort.

Food and Wine Pairing, the Glorious Kind
While pairing the right wine with the right food can be complicated, it can also be very rewarding, and when it is just the right wine, it can be a lifelong fond memory. There are the classic pairings such as a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon with a steak, a Chateauneuf du Pape with lamb, an Amorone with Ossobuco, an off-dry Riesling with a Thai curry or an Albarino with a seafood paella. Then there are…
