#Prey is so good. Highly recommended! Director Dan Trachtenberg has come a long way since hosting Totally Rad Show on #Revision3 ! https://www.instagram.com/p/ChQ5yciIJl7/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
The Future of the World: A Glimpse at New Media
It’s impossible for any of us to look at the world around us and say that nothing’s changing. The truth is, it’s changing all around us before our very eyes, but I think that few people realize exactly how much exactly it is changing. Everything around us is changing. Television and Radio as we know it are old systems running in a new environment. As much as people cling on to it, the old model is going away. More often each day people flock to their computers to watch their shows on streaming sites like Hulu, Joost, and YouTube.
I think that podcasts and independently made shows are going to be the future. The time is approaching for the end of the corporation-driven media. I think that the day of the editor, expensive budget, and over-hyped audience is drawing to a close. The more and more I dive deep into all the amazing content around me, the more I find myself in awe. Some people just get it. Leo Laporte, for example, set out to create a network of netcasts years ago after the end of TechTV, and has done remarkably well (his podcasts fill the iTunes Top 20 list each week, not to mention he was named ‘President of the Internet’).
Another great example is the “Internet Television” company Revision3, started by Jay Adelson, David Prager, and Kevin Rose (who started Digg and co-hosts Diggnation each week). They named their company this because they considered it the 3rd revision of television: The first being black and white TV, the second being color TV, the third being independent internet-based TV. Revison3 is the number 1 video podcast company in the world (that’s not official, but I’d bet money on it).
And finally, CNET. CNET has been there from the beginning. They’ve created podcasts since their beginning, most notably Buzz Out Loud, which started as a weekly podcast about tech news that lasted 5 minutes. Now, years later, it’s a 45-ish minute podcast daily that continues to be atop the iTunes Charts (and just celebrated its 1000th episode!!!). The Buzz Out Loud community is exceptionally unique and fun as well. Through the chat I have come to know many amazing people, soemthing never thought about with old media.
There are countless others, but I could never mention them. Some of the better examples are The Guild, written and starring Felicia Day, as well as Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along-Blog, the internet hit from Joss Whedon who created Firefly.
New media is the future. We’ve come to a point where traditional news, television, and radio is no more. I think that the content in the future will be more individual-driven than ever before. With things like the Kindle, Amazon, and the iTunes Store, things like that will one day be a thing of the past.
Believe me when I say I practice what I preach. I don’t have a TV in my room. I consume only podcasts and occasionally shows on Hulu, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
As always,
Nathan.
My Top 3 Coolest and Drunky web shows
Because it’s always funnier with some drinks ! (with responsibility).
1. Diggnation
It was perhaps the best american podcast of the past decade. The show was actually a video podcast. It has been hosted by Kevin Rose (great entrepreneur, founder of Digg, North Technologies & Hodinkee's CEO, angel investor & watches geek) and Alex Albrecht (podcast host, actor, director). These two guys were at this time, in the Revision3 network well-known for the best quality of its podcasts in tech and entertainment fields.
The pitch : two guys argue and laugh face camera on top Digg posts. A talk on buzz with great booze.
Why it was cool : the topics discussed (learning something) and the beer effect on the discussion (a lot of bad faith and laughs). And obviously a new way to discover new drinks, whatever they were. The cool effect : this setup has brought a kind of intimacy and then closeness with these two guys.
You can watch all episodes here

2.The french Apero du Captain Web
It's hard not to talk about this french show. I miss words for it. By the numbers : more than 200 shows, 6 full years of weekly drunk shows, hundreds of "Wazzuf" chronicles (the best of "What The F*ck" news around the planet), serious endless chronicles on internet trends and tech news.
The pitch : Each tuesday when the night begins, these podcast pirates (the show's name translated : Aperitif of Captain Web) sets your bandwith and your ears on fire for 3 hours of a wacky audio show. If you're a night bird, you can watch their livestream, live from a Paris basement. Four fool guys : Captain Web, the tub's captain ; Lord Ton Père, the unseen, brainy and serious business caution of the show ; Manox, the lord of imitations and crazy audio pieces & Kwakos, composer, imitator and WTF news ninja curator.
Why you have to listen (at least one time) : the best souvenir i have with this show is... when i've seen the sun rise in Paris while i was in front of my computer, hard laughing to the hosts jokes and their guest, the crazy talented Boulet from Bouletcorp.com. An endless night of crazyness and swear words. This is what best describes this show : crazyness and hard laughing. Give it a try.

3. The Random Show
Apart from the excellent Foundation (interview of a great founder/entrepreneur), i've not found a single show where Kevin Rose doesn't drink : tea, wine, beer or whatever. :) Since 2009, Rose randomly talks with a great teammate and friend, in the person of Tim Ferriss, a best selling author (4 Hour Workweek) and angel investor. The show's name : The Randon Show which is like a more mature version of Diggnation.
The pitch : on a totally random way, Kevin and Tim meet each other over a drink (tea, wine,...) to talk facecam about various topics : tech, startup, meditation, sex, sex, sex... :)
The reason to subscribe to the podcast : a nice feeling that we’re in a lounge, discussing with good old friends after work. It's most of all an inspiring show brought to you by two talented bros who have lived great experiences, between fails and wins.
