Love how they turn to give Hal his little moment. It’s cute but it’s also a show of how greatly they respect him and truly treat him as another person. They turn and look as he speaks as if he were just another guy sitting behind them to be interviewed.

Additional how the reporter notes “that we’ve learned one refers to as Hal” while it’s a shortening of his name it’s given as a loving nickname/very human name and it’s so?

There’s so much done to show the subtle closeness of the discovery crew before shit hits the fan and I think it needs more appreciation.

One thing I noticed on my latest rewatch of The Untamed is that the soldier sitting with Wen Qing in the inn where she has the fake fight with Jiang Cheng doesn't call her Wen-guniang - he calls her Qing-guniang, just like Wen-popo and the other Dafan Wen do. You can come up with other explanations, but I think the most straightforward one is that he's one of the Dafan Wen, too - one of her people.

I really like that moment (by which I mean, it makes me 😭) because I think it emphasizes what a terrible position she's in: it's not like there are the "bad Wens," who are fighting for WRH and are from Qishan, versus the "good Wens," who are from Dafan and are all noncombatants. The bodies our protagonists leave behind are "her" people, too: people she grew up with, who love her, and call her by name. There is no side to which she owes only a debt, and no love.
