CLAUDIA FUCKING BLACK.

Spartacus: House of Ashur | 1.01 - "Dominus"
I'm sorry, I had to!
Can we take a second to appreciate Adam Gardiner, our new villain Servius?
This man came in at the eleventh hour and established himself as an absolute menace within like five minutes. I did not know what to expect from him as Gabinius and Cossutia mentioned his name several times, but I guess in my head thought he would be a strict and cruel man who would steal Gabinius's resources from Viridia and Cossutia. Boy oh boy was I wrong, he was much worse. Lusting after your niece, bro ew. HOWEVER, his overt sexism will play very well against Viridia, who has recently discovered feminism! The dynamic between the two will def challenge Viridia to grow up further and come into her own, which I am very excited about!
Plus, I suspect he might be the man that Cornelia will have to cosy up to as she returns to Capua. I can see her staying at the Gabinius villa, and now that she is husband-less, Servius might forget his station and try her in some way. Per @blondelucretia's prediction, this will hopefully lead to a showdown between him and Cossutia/Cornelia duo 🔥
(in such a situation I am also left to wonder how will Messia's story unfold. I'm low-key manifesting her becoming friends with Viridia, I think they would be a great duo. Plus, it would be great to explore a relationship between Viridia, who has come to recognize her own lack of freedom, with a slave, which can lead her to question the whole Roman society)
Lastly, can I just say that I am so glad that they took the time and put in the effort to cast and bring in uncle Servius at the end of this season rather than saving him for the next. I think he did a lot to hype up the second season and set the pieces in place. Also, WHERE IS THE SECOND SEASON ALREADY?
any rome scholars around that can tell me about this scarab (?) amulet that Cossutia is shown rubbing pensively for 5+ seconds when the messenger arrives? seems significant given the lengthy close-up
this website says "Romans believed that wearing beetle-shaped ornaments would provide protection and bring about personal transformation" but doesn't cite any sources
It is you who honor me.
