Listen if Viserys had married a Targaryen woman, the dance would have still happened. In fact, the odds and the political climate would be stacked against Rhaenyra with even more fervour. Alicent didn’t create any conflict that could have been avoided if there was a Targaryen woman instead, btw. She would have supported her son’s claim over Rhaenyra too. The only way the realm would accept Rhaenyra (more) was if viserys
(i) hadn’t killed Aemma
(ii) hadn’t predated upon a 15 year old girl and married a second time specifically for a son
(iii) changed the rule of male primogeniture to a rule of simple primogeniture to strengthen Rhaenyra as the heir to the Iron Throne (for which there is precedent - when Queen Nymeria changed it in dorne, so it isn’t entirely unheard of)
But he didn’t. All of these actions laid the ground for a civil war and if Viserys had even a small competent bone in his body, he would have realised that. Let’s not put the blame on a “non-Targaryen gold-digger” woman.
alicent looks so uncomfortable when rhaenyra and daemon are together like yes be jealous yes be angry yes yes yes
feeling: terribly sad abt aemma arryn
