Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day!!! ❤️ Today is a day to really honestly take a look at our histories and how they have been written on the back of massive oppression and genocide, told through the "victor's" lens. However, as sister @lylajune has said, no one really wins. The fight isn't over! ✊🏽What can YOU do? What actions are these incredible indigenous communities calling out for? _ Pictured here in this image from @easytobreathe is incredible Diné sand art. In my studies, I dove into researching this art form which is often used for healing. Sometimes after ceremonially completing the art with an intention, a sick person would lay down on it for a healing with the support of a medicine man. The art is traditionally temporary and allowing the sand to wash away is a beautiful reflection of impermanence. _ In my life, I do my best to honor these incredible cultures not only for what their traditions are but also for who they are as a people TODAY. Check out the music video for the song "Sisters" by native band A Tribe Called Red-- it is a beautiful example of native women getting down to awesome music made from native singing remixed into techno! So much could be said, but I'll leave you with this: have conversations about this kind of stuff. Talk to friends & relatives about "Columbus Day" so that more and more people can awaken into authentic respect. It's not easy work, but it is absolutely imperative, I feel, not only for indigenous communities worldwide who are still so threatened and oppressed, but for ALL beings of this planet if we are to live as one or even live at all. Thank you to the people still holding these cultural threads. I honor you and I thank you for all that you are, and I am sorry. #indigenouspeoplesday #columbus #culture #sandart #collage #respect #rezpect #imnotperfectbutimtrying #crossculturaldialogue #worthit
