ReWatch: Andromeda - S1, E1

Ep 1: Into the Night This aired 25 years ago, which is hard for my mind to grasp 😝  But watching old scifi is so fun, they tried hard with the effects and monsters, and it's not bad, but it's not like it is today.  Let's see how this season holds up.  (The final season is pretty bad, and when I was going through the DVDs we had purchased, I let go seasons 2 and 3 of Andromeda, and only kept 1.  Although I'm watching it on Peacock because who wants to deal with the DVD player)

I love Harper so much.  😍  Rev Bem, Trance, Rommie, Beka and Tyr. - the originals.

I do appreciate little things, like Harper suffering from some sort of measles which Rommie said was eradicated decades before, Tyr came out of a pod and starts as a gun-for-hire, I mean why not. 

Fave dialog: Harper: I'm telling ya, the guy is huge. He's like... some kind of Greek god or something.

At the end of the First Indochina War ethnic minority people migrated in both directions--north and south of the seventeenth parallel. According to CIA figures, about 10,000 Muongs (members of a northern hill tribe) went south at the time of the Geneva Accords. The same was true of 55,000 Nungs; these were not primitive tribesmen but members of a group that originated in China and migrated to Vietnam in the seventeenth century. At the same time, the CIA estimated that approximately 10,000 indigenous people from the Central Highlands had regrouped north. About 5,000 of them were from the Rhade, generally considered the most educated and politically sophisticated of the Highland tribes; these migrants included four of the five qualified Rhade doctors.

oh and i forgot to mention, when dylan hunt's simmering romantic subplot with tyr anasazi came to an end in the s3 finale, the new sexy nietzchean they brought in to have more emotional scenes with dylan than any of his hetero female trysts was literally THE REINCARNATION OF DYLAN'S EX BOYFRIEND FROM THE ORIGINAL COMMONWEALTH THREE CENTURIES PREVIOUS.

so they swapped out the burning romantic tension between two cool dudes with A CENTURIES LONG GOTHIC REINCARNATION ROMANCE PLOT between two byronic heroes. amazing.
