Episode Review: The Pitt - S2, E12

Ep 12:  6:00PM

Oh go Dana, while we didn’t see it, she decked that guy that attacked Nurse Emma - but it was called Code Hula Hoop.  This incident pushes Dana over the line, whether it’s using a sedative without an order or nurses continuing to be assaulted.  And Emma decides to stay on shift, she is made of steel.

How did All-Hashimi not know about Langdon, as the incoming Attending for the ER - she should have been given a list of doctors, nurses etc.  At least at a high level.

Holy moly that is the reddest sunburn I have ever seen.

The season continues to focus on the medical workers and their emotions, feelings and how well they are or not processing them.  McKay recognizes that she has shut down so completely she doesn’t remember the last she cried.  King, Javadi and Mohan have been overwhelmed by their emotions.  Robby is barely holding on and it’s coming out in bursts of anger and frustration at the team.  Even Al-Hashimi is processing something.  Santos is exhausted and contemplating cutting again. 

What’s amazing is that so many people are clocking Robby’s struggle and outlook, whether it’s Dana, McKay - and I’m blanking on the other people that are confronted him.  Robby should take it as they care and that he’s also not holding himself together nearly as much as he may think.

Ahhh more Whitaker and Santos friendship; I love the grin he gives Santos when he realizes she likes living with him.  Nothing is better than Javadi in the background witnessing this and is downright giddy.

Episode Review: The Pitt - S2, E11

Ep 11: 5:00PM

As the shift wears on, Robby’s patience diminishes; he’s even biting at Whitaker but between Dana pointing out that Robby doesn’t believe that the ER team can handle things without him (when he complains about not leaving on time) and Duke’s arrival.

I appreciate that Whitaker checks in on Santos, recognizing she’s off; he also probably wants to talk about their living situation, but I like to think there’s a friendship there.  

King is struggling with allowing Becca room to make her own decisions, maybe it would have softened the blow if Becca shared specifics about her life.  King does so much for her sister that she’s lost herself and sees that she’s not as needed - what purpose is her life?  It has to be a shock for King and part of this is her not knowing how to process any of it.

Oh, ICE has arrived bringing a woman, hands tied, with a shoulder injury; the vibe in the ER changed dramatically.  Robby wants them out as quickly as possible, I would assume to protect possible other people ICE would want to take.  And the people are scared, leaving the ER waiting room.  Robby confronts them stating he’s losing nurses and patients to go wait somewhere else but then there’s a confrontation and nurse Jesse is arrested for trying to protect the detainee as ICE was trying to physically remove regardless of their pain.  Ugh what a mess.

The boy that was brought in from being in a hot car… is disturbing.  Then the mother is not well, tries to walk into traffic.  Which complicates the care of the son. 

Javadi’s mom is called in and when it’s apparent there was a mistake, she immediately looks at her own daughter asking if it was her.  Who does that?  I did appreciate Robby supporting Javadi, lifting her up in front of her mom.

Episode Review: The Pitt - S2, E10

Ep 10:  4:00PM

Roxy, the mom dying of cancer is heartbreaking.  McKay is a rock, talking Javadi off the ledge and then speaking to the teenage son respectfully and calmly when he didn’t want to say goodbye to his mom.  

In the chaos of the moment, Mohan couldn’t recognize a panic attack; and I’m sure Langdon was reacting to the report details he was given, but it was a lot of crazy for panic attack.  Which can be scary, but I can understand why Robby reacted in such a visceral way.  Still too harsh and he may have regrets later.  (Good for Al-Hashimi confronting Robby about his treatment of Mohan and what it will take for him to get empathy back.)

Santos is really off her game, I think she’s tired and can’t stuff down her first reactions to Langdon.  I get why she doesn’t respect him, but she is in the middle of the ER tending to patients.  We learn a little later that Santos has been treated poorly for doing the right thing, so it’s understandable that her reaction to Langdon is not just about his addiction and actions.  To be ostracized for doing something right stings.

The fact that Al-Hashimi was able to do a procedure no one else knew and teach at the same time, is amazing.  Doctors in the ER are made of something else.  And then Graham comes in and makes such a derogatory comment about the incision; ugh surgery fellows.  

This season is very much about the parental/sibling units of the staff.  Mohan is inundated with calls from her mom (which is irresponsible knowing she is at work, it’s not an emergency) then Javadi’s mom is ruthless in her opinion of what she thinks her daughter should be doing.  And King is having a breakdown about her sister having sex and not telling her about it before.  King lives for her sister and to be in the dark about something like that is rocking her world.

Episode Review: The Pitt - S2, E9

Ep 9: 3:00PM

I really love Santos, she is a complicated person and that makes her so real.  She has a huge heart and nothing shows that more with how easily she takes care of Jude (the boy who had his fingers blown off by a firecracker, which was actually a military weapon.)  And the boy has alcohol on his breath which triggers social services.  We learn that their parents were deported during their immigration hearing and the sister left college to care for him.

Confirmed that Santos and Graham are a thing, and Graham mentions keeping it casual. 

What King doesn’t need is a visit from her sister, with a stomach ache, right before her deposition.  It’s nice that Langdon is going to take care of Becca while King does her deposition.

Roxy, the woman with cancer that is dying, it’s sad to see that she’s reached the end of her fight, being exhausted by the pain.  They had an ice cream party as a way to enjoy something as a family, one last time.

The woman that came in with heat exhaustion from wearing a furry costume, brought out a softer side of Joy.  It’s the most emotion she’s showed since we met her and I love it.

Howard, the large man, is back prepping for surgery where he has a 50% chance of dying.   Which means Abbott is back and calls Robby on his bullshit, telling him to call him if all Robby’s self reflection turns dark.  Robby says nothing, which actually says it all.  And through it all, he’s there for his team, confronting Whitaker about his relationship with a former patient (Amy).  Then offers Whitaker to house sit for him while he’s on sabbatical - getting him space from Amy so he can take care of himself.  A shame Robby doesn’t have the strength to show himself such empathy and care.
