Ursi Tolliday
Ursi is a 24-year-old illustrator and printmaker originally from Lincolnshire but currently living in Lewisham. Drawn to illustration from a young age because of a love of books, she continues to have a passion for storytelling in various forms. Ursi aims to tell stories of those who are not always given a voice, currently working on a project to tell the very different stories of immigrants to the UK. With commissions from children’s magazines, Scoop and Shameless Magazine, she is looking to expand on this experience.
Ursi’s work is largely influenced by folk art, with elements of collage. She has always had a love of pattern and colour which is evident in her illustration. Ursi began experimenting with printmaking at university and fell in love with risograph because of the layering aspect and bright colours. She has spent the last couple of years teaching printmaking and running various art workshops as well as a weekly “zine club”. Ursi has recently begun to work more digitally allowing her to create illustrations more efficiently and add moving elements.
She aspires to gain a position, primarily that allows her to be creative but also to problem solve, tell stories and draw. Ursi love working in a creative environment in which I can meet and talk to a wide range of people. Her dream is to work as an in-house illustrator/designer within an editorial company that produces printed or digital material.
