One time, Sodapop confronted Ricky about everything he had to Summer, which Ricky called her a "Dumb whore who's been fucked in the head too many times to know what she's doing", he also said she deserved to be assaulted and that he enjoys beating her. Sodapop was pissed (and rightfully so), so he beat the shit out of Ricky. Summer didn't hear what Ricky had said about her, all she came home to was her dad beating the shit out of Ricky, who seemed so sweet and innocent and kind.

I just realized, Jack and Cleo met Ricky and that called him a son, because he did the things he did to Summer and bragged about it. (Hopefully this makes sense)
