Chocolate Pistachio Cannoli
Extra-large pasta shells filled with creamy ricotta cheese, topped with savory meat sauce, and baked until golden. A hearty and satisfying pasta dish that can be made for any event.
Ingredients: 1 box jumbo pasta shells. 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage. 1 onion, finely chopped. 3 cloves garlic, minced. 1 jar marinara sauce. 15 oz ricotta cheese. 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese. 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese. 1 egg. 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley. Salt and pepper to taste.
Instructions: Preheat oven to 350F 175C. Cook jumbo pasta shells according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside. In a skillet, brown ground beef or Italian sausage over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, cook until onions are translucent. Add marinara sauce to the skillet and simmer for 10 minutes. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix well. Stuff each cooked pasta shell with the ricotta mixture. Spread a layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a baking dish. Arrange stuffed shells over the sauce. Pour remaining meat sauce over the stuffed shells. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 25-30 minutes. Remove foil and sprinkle extra mozzarella cheese on top if desired. Bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
