Ramadan is also bazaar season and really, what’s not to like? A streetful of goodies in every neighborhood ready to be feasted on. The problem is the waste generated from all that takeout. According to waste management professionals, the amount of waste we send to the landfill dramatically increases during the month of Ramadan. While a big chunk of it is food waste - a significant amount is single-use plastic packaging, straws, cups and bags. In this video I did for Roots & Shoots Malaysia I share the contents of my Ramadan Bazaar bag in the hopes you do the same! Also, bringing your containers mean being more mindful of what you buy and limits impulse buying (which means less food waste!). Was lucky to spot some of the OG residents of @thehabitatph on our walkabout these past two days. Highlights included a rare sighting of Geosesarma Malayanum, a species of land crab that lives amongst the bromeliad plants, dusky leaf monkeys, a gorgeous crested lizard, and the cutest caterpillar cluster feeding on a leaf!
