I’m a bit late on this prompt for @khoc-week but that’s alright! There are many ways that Hinata is dedicated in her life. She’s loyal to her friends, her mission, her goals, but the one that stuck out to me was her dedication towards Riku. (and I also wanted an excuse to gush about them soooo)
Hinata and Riku have a bond that only strengthens throughout Hinata’s series. There are countless moments I could focus on where Hinata proves her loyalty, but one area in particular is when Riku releases his darkness and transforms into Ansem Seeker of Darkness.
He’s ashamed of his appearance and for a while, he hides away from Hinata. But Hinata doesn’t want to be kept away. She reassures him at every chance that under it all, he’s still Riku. No one else. The way he looks doesn’t change that. Despite it all, she waits until he’s ready and just remains patient and encouraging.
Once his wall starts to come down, Hinata pushes him to do his hair differently and wear comfortable clothes. Find a way to make this new form his own, that way he isn’t reminded of Ansem every time he looks in the mirror. She’ll often braid his hair or help him do different styles so he can feel more like himself.
Here are some lovely commissions from the amazing @amyhayanora and Laizyboy that show them being cuties.
Ahhh I love them *squeeee*
And I’m also sharing this comm from Amy, because it shows them finally having a Happily Ever After.

Smutember 2019 ~ Big Day Out
Pairing: Riku x Hinata (Post Kh3)
Words: 4518
---------------------
“What?” Hinata asked, looking over her shoulder to see Riku staring at her. “Something on my face?”
Riku chuckled, a warmth covering the tips of his ears as he closed the distance between them, placing his hand along the base of her bare back. “No, just---” he downcast his gaze with a grin, “admiring the view.”
Hinata’s lips spread into her own grin, a soft giggle following as she put down the trinket she was admiring and led further into the marketplace of Agrabah. They were there on a royal visit to the palace, to meet with the Princess and Sultan about the conditions of the world. Ever since Jasmine was taken, the Sultan was insistent on being kept up to date on the condition of the World Order. The seasonal visit to inform him of such things usually ended with fancy banquets and parades, which would make the mission a favorite among the Keyblade Wielders.
The two of them had been lucky enough to have been chosen for the current seasonal visit and had been spending the day exploring the city of Agrabah under the recommendation of the Sultan himself, as the nightly banquet was prepared. Shortly after arriving, they had been given royal garments to wear during their visit. At first, Hinata hadn’t been sure what to think. It was close to the outfit she was chosen to wear during her first visit to the world years ago, but back then she had been the one performing for the banquet. Now she was the one attending.
It was a royal purple top that was tight around her chest, the sleeves oversized and off her shoulders. Golden jewelry adorned her neck and wrists, jangling with every step. Her pants were a darker shade of purple, soft and low on her hips. They ballooned around her legs, before tightening right above her ankles and shimmering sandals. Her hair was braided down her back, with golden strands and beads in between the strands. She looked like pure royalty next to her very own prince.
Riku hadn’t been able to take his eyes off of her since they had changed. Their first visit to Agrabah hadn’t been one he often liked to remember, spare for the memory of how Hinata had looked. He often wondered if he would ever get to see her in anything like it again and to have her in front of him, smiling over her shoulder as she walked ahead of him, he was mesmerized.
His own outfit was different than anything he would ever normally wear, with a deep v-neck but shirt that was tight around his chest. A thick cloth was tied over his hips, over a pair of dark pants that went to his ankles. The shirt framed his upper arms, accentuating the muscles that Hinata often unabashedly admired.
“How about a pretty necklace for the beautiful Princess?” A market trader called out to them as they passed.
Hinata glanced over, her pace just ever so slightly slowing as something caught her eye. She waved with a smile, wordlessly letting him know she would have to pass. Riku stopped instead, his eyes swiftly finding an emerald piece and grabbing a few bits of munny to pay for it without Hinata noticing his absence. He sent a thankful smile to the vendor, before quickening his pace after Hinata.
“It’s been so long since we were here last.” She told him with a soft sigh. “It’s nice to be actually allowed to explore for once. Enjoy it, you know?”
Riku hummed, looking up towards the massive gate and polished wall that surrounded the palace. “Yeah, I know what you mean. Last couple times we were here weren’t under the best of terms with the Sultan.”
Hinata snorted, bringing her hand to her mouth to cover up the sound as she laughed. “That’s an understatement.”
With a smirk, Riku laced his hand with Hinata’s. “Things are different now.”
“They are,” she agreed, smiling up at him as her tattoo dimly glowed.
Riku’s eyes softened, his gaze dancing over her until the sound of the gate opening startled him out of his thoughts. He looked forward, seeing the lush greenery in the castle courtyard that was lined with polished marble. The guards stood at the ready, allowing them inside before sliding the gate shut behind them. They hadn’t yet taken the time to fully explore the castle gardens, but Riku couldn’t deny how tranquil they seemed.
Hinata led them towards a fountain, their hands releasing as she went to the edge. The surface perfectly reflected the blue sky and the colorful array of flower buds surrounding it. Riku watched her, unable to keep his eyes from drifting over her. His heart skipped, his hands aching to touch her, to hold her. There were still times he questioned if their life together was really happening. And moments like this where she was even more breathtaking than usual, he questioned it more than ever.
He glanced down at the necklace in his hand, smirking as he went towards her. As he neared Hinata, he kissed the back of her shoulder, his smirk growing at her humin response. Reaching around her, he hung the necklace around her neck, hearing her soft gasp as she saw it in the reflection.
“When did you--”
“Do you like it?” He asked, his hands sliding along her arms as he feathered kisses along the back of her shoulder.
“Of course I do,” she spoke softly, tracing her fingertips along the gems. “It’s beautiful.” She turned her head, lifting her arm to cup the side of his face and meet their lips together.
Riku hummed into the kiss, his hands resting along the sides of her bare, heated waist. As the kiss broke, he leaned his forehead against hers. “I haven’t been able to take my eyes off of you today.”
With a giggle, she turned in his arms to face him, lacing her hands behind his neck. “Oh yeah?”
He chuckled, kissing her again and loving the way her breath hitched from the contact. “We need to see if you can take this outfit with you when we leave.”
Hinata blinked, before bubbling into laughter, “I don’t know if I’d be able to wear this outside of Agrabah.”
“I don’t know, I could think of a couple occasions.” He shrugged, smirking at her quirked brow.
“Oh can you?” She asked, smiling as she brushed her fingers through his hair. “Well, I might be persuaded to wear it on said occasions.”
Before Riku could reply, she pulled him back to her lips, sighing as Riku’s arm wrapped around her back to pull her closer. Their lips moved together in unison, perfectly fitting as Riku’s tongue teased her bottom lip. The softest moan strained in Hinata’s throat, her lips parting to meet her tongue with his. Riku’s other hand trailed up her side, his thumb teasing the side of her breast.
The contact made Hinata break the kiss with a sharp breath, gripping Riku’s hand before he went any further.
“We’re right outside, you goof,” she reminded him with a whisper and a grin at Riku’s near huff in response.
“It’s not my fault I can’t keep my hands off you,” he countered, kissing her shortly before trailing his lips along her jaw.
“Well, it’s not mine,” she pointed out, her eyes fluttering shut as she moved her head to the side to allow him more room to explore.
A soft whine came up her throat as Riku’s tongue darted out against her already overheated skin. Pressing her hand to his chest, she pushed him back a step, feeling her entire body throb from the mere look in Riku’s eyes.
“Sorry,” he muttered, his eyes still dancing over her until he cleared his throat and looked away. “I’ll get a hold of myself.”
Hinata giggled, going on her toes to kiss his cheek, before speckling a few more kisses to his jaw. “You’re not the only one that has to hold back.” She confessed, reluctantly stepping back. “But we’re supposed to be on a mission and we’re representing all the other Wielders, soo---”
“I get it,” he sighed, leaning his head against hers. “You’re right.” Letting out a long breath, he admitted under his breath, "God, I want you though, Hinata.”
Her breath hitched, her fingers tightening along his chest as she swallowed hard. “I-I really want you too. Let’s just hold out a few more hours. We’ll try to sneak away after the banquet.”
His arm around her tightened at the thought as he hummed. “Deal,” he muttered, letting out a breath as he stepped back to put space between them.
Hinata swallowed hard, her hands sliding away from his chest to be back at her sides. Neither of them wanted to wait, but their mission had to come first. Pushing her hair back behind her ear, she walked past Riku to head inside the castle. She could nearly feel the heat radiating off of him as she passed, their eyes meeting before she was gone from his view. Riku followed suit, allowing the guards to pull open the tall double doors leading inside.
There was enough going on through the entrance hall to keep them distracted from their growing need of the other. Platters of food was being carried across the floor to the banquet hall, their scents billowing in the hall and making their mouths water. Music was already being played, the sound echoing off the columns and walls. They were greeted by the Sultan almost immediately as he rushed towards them and explained the plans for the night.
The two of them tried to listen to his instructions, being brought from one room to the next as his excitement bubbled over. It was a difficult task as their eyes continually found each other, their thoughts instantly going to the same thing. It wasn’t often that the two of them were so thoroughly distracted on a mission, this one just had… particular circumstances.
The time for the banquet had finally arrived and they were led to the main banquet hall. It was one they recognized from their first visit to Agrabah, but it had been embellished and remodeled after the carnage of their previous visit. They were told to sit along the floor, their legs under the cover of a thick, fluffy blanket. Riku was on one side, Hinata on the other as they ate.
Dozens of others joined them for the grand dinner. Diplomats from around their world, royalty and esteemed guests, Riku and Hinata weren’t the only ones invited to be there. Dancers and performers lined the room, entertaining the guests as platters of food was passed and served for dinner. The dancers wore similar outfits to Hinata’s, blades in their hands as they performed choreographed sets. Hinata watched them intently, noticing Riku’s quirked brow out of the corner of her eye.
“What?” She asked, her voice barely heard over the mixture of chatter from the guests and the music.
“Thinking of last time?” He asked in return, motioning his head towards the dancer she was watching.
“A little,” she admitted, “More noticing how they’ve obviously never fought before. Their form’s--”
“Completely off,” he finished for her with a chuckle. “Of course you’d say that.”
“Does the Princess believe she can do better?” A man dressed in show garbs spoke up, his arms crossed and a wide smirk on his lips. “Would you care to show my girls how it’s done?”
Hinata’s mouth hung open, before stammering out an apology, “I-I, no, no, I wasn’t trying to be rude, I just--”
“Ah, yes! That would be splendid!” The Sultan spoke up from the head of the table, his hand clapping. “We haven’t seen you dance since your last visit.”
She looked to Riku, who simply awaited her response, a curved smirk at the corner of his lips.
“You know what,” she smirked in return, looking to the Sultan as she stood up and bowed, “I would be honored.”
The music fell silent as Hinata made her way to the main stage. The girls were shooed away by their manager, the same man who had challenged Hinata to perform. As she settled into place, her blades flashed into her grasp. Her eyes met with Riku’s. He was leaned forward, his head resting in his hand as he watched her with a smirk. It had been months since he had seen her perform a routine with her blades, longer still to have it accompanied by music for a dance. Each time left him speechless and Hinata was well aware of that fact. Deep down, he was sure that she agreed to it for that very reason.
With a nod from Hinata, the music began. She sprang into action, her blades an extension of herself. The way her body moved in rhythm to the melody, her muscles trained and swaying just so, Riku was mesmerized. It was beautiful, watching her perform. The rest of the banquet hall faded away, spare for the hypnotic music and Hinata’s golden eyes that met with his after every spin and move.
Part of him wished to join her. They way they would spare felt akin to a dance, something he had yet to experience with anyone other than her. He supposed it came with the art of Dao Blades, but something else told him that it was something that was just uniquely Hinata. His body warmed, his eyes dancing over her and loving every detail. Swallowing hard, he found himself thankful for the blanket covering the bottom half of his body. If the banquet didn’t end soon, he didn’t know how he would be able to keep himself from her.
As the music sang its last notes, Hinata’s blades flashed out of existence, a roar of applause as she bowed. It was only then that Riku realized just how many other people had been watching. The manager went to her, talking incessantly about the details of her performance and how he wished she would join his team. Other guests got up to speak with her, each consecutive one grating on Riku’s nerves.
Hinata graciously turned them away, giving her thanks and stopping shortly to speak with the Sultan before returning to her seat. The smirk on her lips as she settled back in her seat across from Riku was enough to make him want to grab her across the table right then and there. Instead, he cleared his throat, averting his gaze. His ears warmed from Hinata’s giggle. She knew exactly what she had done to him.
The rest of the banquet went by much too slow for either of their liking. Their were speeches and performances, platters of food that seemed to endlessly come from the kitchen. Each passing minute made the other all the more restless.
Hours passed before the Sultan announced the end of the banquet. He spoke briefly about the meetings and events planned for the following day. Each word was lost on Riku and Hinata as their eyes met, excitement and anticipation obvious in their gaze. The music began once more as the guests got up from their seats to be taken to their room. Riku was by Hinata’s side in seconds, his hand pressed against the small of her back to lead her out of the hall. Neither of them said a word, the few hours of waiting were finally over and they didn’t trust themselves to speak without pulling the other in.
They were led with the rest of the guests towards a hall lined with various guest rooms. Riku’s hand traced up and down Hinata’s back, noticing the slightest way her breath shook from the affection.
“Here we are,” their guide stopped beside a room, motioning their arm inside.
Hinata gave them their thanks, but stopped short at the doorway. Their room was lined with mats and blankets, at least a half dozen guests all placed into the same space as them.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Riku groaned under his breath, his hand sliding away from Hinata’s back.
“I guess we should have expected it,” Hinata whispered back, about to walk further into the room before Riku gripped her wrist.
“Come with me,” he muttered, leading her back out to the halls.
“Where are we going?” She asked, keeping her pace up with his. “We can’t just find a random room.”
“I know, I know,” he told her, turning the corner to a seemingly empty hallway and pushing her up against the wall. She gasped just before their lips met, her voice melting into a whimper as her hands clung to his shirt. “Doesn’t mean I can’t take at least a little private time for you.”
Hinata ginned, her hand sliding behind his neck to tug him back to her lips, a soft moan slipping out as their tongues met. His hands settled on her hips, before sliding up the sides of her waist, taking notice of the way her breath hitched as he reached the base of her breasts before he slid them back down.
“You’re such a tease,” she whined, her head slinging back as his lips went to her neck.
“Me?” he scoffed, his voice vibrating through her. “I seem to remember you teasing me with that dance of yours earlier.”
She breathily laughed, her fingers lacing into his hair. “Details.”
The sound of footsteps caused them to freeze. Riku grumbled as he leaned his forehead against her shoulder. “Just two minutes, that’s all I’m asking for here.”
Hinata kissed the top of his head, about to push him back before they were discovered until she noticed a device clipped to his belt. A smirk curved her lips as she reached for it, Riku’s head shooting up as she pulled it back.
“What are you--”
“Just a few minutes,” she assured him with a wink, tapping the device and surrounding them with a bright light.
They reappeared in the cockpit of their gummi ship that was peacefully orbiting Agrabah without anyone’s knowledge. Riku looked around, realizing what Hinata had done as she tossed the device onto the control board.
“They’re going to be wondering where we are.” He reminded her as she laced her hands behind his neck.
“Not if we’re quick,” she countered, grinning at his responding smirk, just before their lips crashed together.
Her back met with the metal door that separated the cockpit from the bedroom. All it would have taken was a simple keystroke to open the door and head into their ship’s room, but that was too long. Instead, their hands explored, taking their new found privacy to its full advantage.
Their kiss broke, Hinata’s voice filling the cockpit as Riku’s lips trailed down her neck, collar bone, down to her breasts as he went to his knees. His fingers traced the smooth, soft fabric over her chest, the sensation making her shiver as he kissed between her breasts.
“God, you’re so beautiful,” he murmured, just before tugging down the fabric completely.
Hinata gasped, her head slinging back as Riku’s tongue swirled around her nipple. His hand massaged her other breast, twisting her nipple between his fingers and making her moan. Pulling off her breast, he trailed his lips down her stomach, his tongue dipping into her navel and making her whimper. His eyes met with hers as his fingers slid between her legs, a sharp cry coming from her throat, making her hips jerk forward. Riku grinned, standing up and capturing her lips in his. Her hands went to the sides of his face, their tongues dancing against the other.
Breaking the kiss, he grabbed her hands, leading her towards the main captain’s chair. She followed without question, her lips parted and chest heaving as Riku pushed her back to sit on it. He leaned over her, their lips meeting for several short, sloppy kisses as Riku lowered to his knees.
“Want anything specific?” He asked, their noses brushing against the other.
Shaking her head, she grinned and whispered, “Anything.”
He met her grin, their lips meeting as his fingers dipped under the hem of her pants. It didn’t take more than a subtle tug on the fabric for her to know what he wanted, making her lift up her hips just enough so he could slide off her pants and panties in a single motion. The seat beneath her felt cold to her bare skin, but she barely had time to focus on it as Riku’s fingers wasted no time in swiping between her legs. She moaned in his mouth, Riku humming and pushing her further against the chair as his fingers slid inside of her with practiced ease.
The kiss broke, her head slinging back with a sharp cry as Riku trailed his lips down her body. He flicked and licked both of her breasts with his tongue, swirling and teasing her nipples until she was whimpering from the slightest touch. His lips feathered her stomach, down to her hips, until his fingers slid out of her, getting a whine in response. Riku glanced up at her, seeing her half lidded eyes staring back at him, a tired smile on her parted lips. He returned the smile, his hands gripping her thighs and pulling her legs up, until her calves were supported by the armrests of the seat.
Hinata sucked in a breath, biting her lip as Riku looked her over. Anyone else and she would have been shoving them away, completely ashamed. But with Riku, there was something about the look in his eyes when he could have his way with her. Something that she couldn’t quite explain, but she almost didn't want to. The experience of it all was enough.
His hands ran along her legs, firm yet gentle in their touch. Riku sent her a smirk, the expression alone making her breathless, before he leaned forward, kissing along her thighs. A long, soft breath slipped between her lips, her eyes unable to look away as Riku kissed closer and closer to her folds. His breath was hot against them, so close that all it would take was a simple roll of her hips to close the distance. Instead she watched him, waiting for him to take her on his terms. She didn’t have to wait for long as his tongue darted out, gently, slowly sliding across her folds. A sharp cry came up her throat, her back arching as her arm reached over her head to grab the top of the chair.
Riku hummed, his tongue swirling and tasting every inch of her, never tiring of anything she had to offer. His lips met with her folds, kissing, suckling, making Hinata a moaning mess as his fingers teased her entrance. Her free hand laced in his hair, pushing him closer until his face was buried between her legs. He took her with ease, groaning at her taste and the forcefulness of her touch. His fingers pushed inside of her, each one making her cry out his name, begging for more.
With a groan, he pulled back his face, just enough so he could speak, “You’re so close, Hinata.”
She whined in response, her hips rolling in hopes to meet his lips back with her folds. He chuckled, obliging a single kiss that made her shudder.
“I wish I could do this to you all night.” He told her, meeting his eyes with hers.
She couldn’t see his lips, but the smirk was obvious in his eyes, watching her as she squirmed and moaned under his touch. He always loved pushing her to the edge, keeping her there until she was nearly pleading him to make her come, but they both knew they couldn’t do that tonight.
“Fuck me, Riku,” she managed the words between her moans with a shaking voice.
Riku groaned, sitting up and crashing their lips together. “I’d love to,” he muttered the moment they broke apart.
His fingers slid out of her, both of his hands wrapping around her hips and hoisting her up from the seat. She gasped, her legs instinctively wrapping around his waist as he spun around and sat himself back down on the chair. Hinata grinned, her hands cupping his face as she kissed him. Her hips rolled against the fabric of his pants, feeling the hardened bulge of his cock beneath it. Riku groaned, his head lolling back against the chair as HInata kissed along his jawline and neck. Her fingers went to work on his buckle, undoing his pants and sliding them down just enough to free his shaft.
“Ah, Hinata,” he breathed out her name as her cool fingers wrapped around his throbbing length. “God, yes.”
She giggled, kissing his jaw. “Are you ready?”
Swallowing hard, he nodded, their eyes meeting as she slid him inside of her. Both of their lips parted, shaking moans escaping them before their lips crashed back together. Their hips met in unison, their voices filling the cockpit of the ship. Riku’s hands gripped the sides of her hips, keeping her in place as he thrusted in and out of her. Hinata moaned in his mouth, just before breaking the kiss and slinging her head back, allowing Riku’s lips to go anywhere he pleased.
All it took was his tongue to lap against her breast to break the dam of coiled pleasure inside of her. A sharp cry ripped out of her as her back arched, her hands gripping the back of the chair as she climaxed. Riku groaned, watching her come as he rolled his hips faster and harder against her. With a snap of his hips, he wasn’t far behind. His head slung back against the chair, Hinata’s name slipping past his lips over and over again as waves of ecstasy washed over him.
Their voices wavered as the orgasms faded back to reality. Hinata fell limp on top of Riku, their hips languidly rolling together as the after waves of their climax coursed through them. His hands trailed up and down her back, his lips feathering light, gentle kisses along her collarbone.
“Was that---” Hinata breathed out, her voice subdued and soft, “--worth the wait…?”
A chuckle rumbled through Riku’s chest as he looked up, meeting his tired eyes with hers. Both of them smiled at the other, turning into grins before their lips met for a lingering kiss. “Worth every minute.” He muttered, kissing her again.
“Do you think they’re wondering where we are?” She asked, leaning her cheek against his shoulder as Riku gazed out at the planet right outside the windshield of the ship.
“Probably,” he admitted with a sigh, noticing Hinata tense from his words. “But it’ll be fine.” He added, kissing the top of her head. “We’ll just say we were out on a walk or something.”
She hummed, nuzzling further against his chest. “I hope that works.”
He chuckled, his fingers grazing along her arm. “It will.”
Man I have so many questions regarding Hinata, but I also don't know what you've already revealed in your trilogy that I have yet to read >.> Sooo to avoid spoiling myself, how about something like a modern AU? What are her aspirations and dreams? Where do you see her, say, in her early 20s? Interests? Studies? Career? Family? Lay it on mehhh
Ooooh! I just love Modern Aus!!
I have quite a few ideas for Hinata in her college days. Some of them are more ironed out than others, but here’s a rough bit of them all plastered together. (it’s very long, I’m so sorry lolol)
Here’s a pic of her look in a modern au and early 20′s. Pointless note, but each outfit shares the color scheme of one of Hinata’s main looks in canon.
-Hinata is a practical person. She stays up on her studies and genuinely enjoys her classes. She’s not the top of her class, but she’s comfortably keeping up with the flow of work.
-She is majoring in Psychology so she can become an Occupational Therapist. She’s gone her entire life being told what she can and can’t do. Even in college, her parents (grandmother in particular) tells her that she should be pursuing a career that is either lucrative, or one that she can easily leave to become a housewife. Neither of these things are what she’s interested in. So she has hopes of becoming an Occupational Therapist to help guide others to their dreams without the expectations of others.
-Despite being in college classes and pursuing her degree, her true passion lies in her writing. She has always kept a journal at her side to jot down thoughts and ideas whenever the inspiration would strike. Part of her had considered going after a Creative Writing degree, but she instead focuses on writing on her own time. She write manuscripts and short stories that she occasionally sends in to the local magazines or to random job offers. She’s gotten a few commissioned jobs from it, but not enough to live off of.
-To make up for the financial deficit, she works at a coffee shop on campus, Wayfinder Brews. She works there with Justin and Natsumi ( @rainrain9 and @amarxlen‘s Ocs).
-Her best friends are Sam and James, two siblings that she met when her car’s engine decided to shut down mid intersection on the way to class one morning. They run an old, rundown mechanic shop together. James goes to college, majoring in Accounting, while Sam refused to go in hopes of making her shop stay afloat so she could support their family.
-Hinata occasionally goes to Sam’s mechanic shop on the weekends to avoid going back home. She’s off and on dated Sam’s older brother, James, but they’ve really only worked best as friends with occasional benefits. The three of them share a strong bond and James particularly encourages Hinata’s writing. He’s been able to read a couple of her journals when they were dating and tells her that it’s as if he’s reading a book, rather than just her thoughts.
-During Hinata’s 4th and final year of college before she got her degree, one of her manuscripts finally made it big. A publisher had gotten a hold of her work and wanted to work with her on officially publishing her manuscript and possibly making it into a series. She of course accepted and her life almost instantaneously changed.
-She still finished her final year of college, but rather than go for her Master’s so she could actually become a licensed Occupational Therapist, she moved to focus more on her writing.
-She moved closer to the main office of her publisher, making it easier to stop in for meetings that they called every other week (or so it seemed). Her books were selling and she was becoming an advocate for other young aspiring writers. It was her dream, one she never thought she would make it to.
-Despite it all, she found herself feeling lonely. Even though it was entirely her own choice to move, she had yet to find anyone that she connected with on the same level as everyone back home.
-So she starts getting herself out of the house. She explores the city, searching for inspiration and something that will help her call her new place home.
-Then one weekend, she decides to take a train to a neighboring city. On that train is where she (officially) meets Riku. They used to be penpals growing up, but had grown apart with age when life brought them to different places.
-Rather than searching for inspiration, Hinata spent the day learning about the boy she used to write all those years ago. After they had stopped writing, Riku had gone to travel the world. The stories and experiences he shared with her were enough to render her completely speechless. He had returned and transferred to the city so he could finally start going to college and get the degree his mom was nearly begging him to get.
-As they talked and spent the day together, it was as if not a single day had passed since they had been penpals. Riku was calmer now, level headed, but Hinata could still see the hints of snark in his tone. She was sure she had changed through the years, as well.
-Nearly every weekend was spent together after their chance meeting. They’d meet up at the train station, choosing a new stop to get off on and to explore. Hinata used him as her sound board for writing ideas and he always had a new angle for her to look at things that she hadn’t considered before.
-It didn’t take long for her to realize that she was falling in love with him. It was different than anything she ever had with James. Everything about it was strong, deep, pure. She felt at ease around him, as if she could say literally anything on her mind and he would listen and discuss it without judgement. He encouraged her, but also let her know when she was doing something that could harm her future.
-She had been nervous about telling her friends about him, particularly James, even though he hadn’t exactly stayed single since she had moved. Once she did though, he was surprisingly supportive. He remembered her mentioning her old penpal and even recalled her rereading the letters a few times when she’d be up before him in the morning. He’d always known that if Riku had ever shown back up in her life again, he didn’t stand a chance.
-It takes a while, but she and Riku do eventually get married after Riku graduates college. They travel the world together as Hinata writes memoirs about their adventures. It doesn’t matter where they go, they have each other… and eventually a couple more travel buddies along for the ride years down the road when Hinata gets pregnant. They name their children Nellie and Destin, and one could say that they lived Happily Ever After.
