Ring anon here. I sprinkled some salt around the closet after I showed Chess Choco what you said about the salt (I didn't want them to freak out) and luckily they were okay with me doing that now that they knew it wasn't going to hurt whatever cookie is in my closet.
I'm not a hundred percent sure about what I should do next though. I kind of want to try and talk to the cookie in my closet so I can figure out who/what it is, since the salt will hopefully prevent it from attacking me in case it is dangerous.
Do you think this is a good idea? If it is, is there anything I should look out for that'll help me figure out which cookie it might be? You mentioned that it might be an Onion...I don't really know that much about that cookie. What are they like?
Try to look for any distinctive features. Eyecing colors, hair length, dough color, clothing, possible accessories, etc.
Onions are ghost children, basically. Their entire species was wiped out at a point in time, and now all of them returned as ghosts that only a handful of cookies and people are able to see. They're quite frightful, usually being afraid of anything "spooky" and even of themselves, as they don't know that they're ghosts. They can unintentionally spook people sometimes, as they can't really control their powers.
...come to think of it, maybe having a Blackberry around would help, as they're the only non-legendary species known that is consistently able to see and talk to ghosts and spirits
