Probably a jerboa of some sort

I bet there are Sonic OCs whose jobs are to place down the spikes, wooden boxes, and hit boxes.

Perhaps the boxes are a byproduct

I guess they keep out of sight so Sonic and his friends won't see the ones who've been placing down the rings, spikes, springs, etc.?

I think its just the nature of the task (the traps are probably the work of some other team/group)
