How do you keep yourself motivated with your languages? I've been out of practice for almost five years now and I'm applying to an MA degree and I'm nervous I'm too far behind so it'll look bad on my application. Any tips for reviewing/keeping up with Latin and/or ancient Greek?

I really struggled with this at first, especially when first looking at the grammar bc there’s so much of it, and it is SO easy to just be like ‘’this is too hard, I’m going to go work on something else.’’

Honestly I just worked on my discipline - you force yourself into doing something enough times it slowly turns into some kind of routine. Unfortunately this is one of those things that is way easier said than done - but it’s like getting out of bed in the morning, at some point you’ve just gotta throw the covers off and get up.

As for reviewing I think little and often works best. I try to do 1 translation every day and then the Grammar that goes with it (my class works with the JACT books) on the alternating days. In practice though I’m not really that disciplined and I still have about 2 days a week where I don’t get any work done, I’m trying to incorporate vocab flashcards on these days so I at least feel like I’m still working on it. 

On Sunday’s I review all my notes that I have done, starting from the beginning and test myself on the grammar that I’ve learnt (or tried to learn aha) The JACT books are really handy here because they have exercises, etc in them to make it easier to test yourself on what you’ve done.

Classical languages are difficult, but every so often you get that little clouds-parting-sun-shining-angels-singing feeling when you realise something has actually stuck in your brain!! and that’s pretty cool.

yes. algernon tried to pose as jack’s fictional brother, ernest, but jack was also pretending to be ernest (in the country vs in town), and both gwen & cecily (their love interests) think their engaged to the same ‘ernest,’ who doesn’t exist & is actually those men, and it’s all rather confusing, and then the men are outside & arguing and algernon just. starts eating all of the muffins, and jack gets annoyed and then they argue about the muffins! instead of what’s been going on.

What type of witchy music are you looking for, friend? I have some that's rather silly like Emerald Rose's Fairies Stole My Keys, but then I have others like Inkubus Sukkubus, and then some stuff that I regularly meditate to, like Om Deeksha by Maneesh de Moor but that's a lot of Sanskrit chanting, so it all depends on what type of music you're hunting.

I’m not really looking for meditative stuff–for that I like to listen to Singing-Bowl like tones, nature sounds, bells etc.  

I guess I’m looking for some modern witchy vibes (not halloween soundtrack stuff), some good southern gothic sounding stuff, things that sound similar to Fever Ray and Florence & the Machine.  I like raspy-voiced women singing about mysterious things that happen in the woods at night haha.

My usual genres of music that I listen to vary (but I tend to stay away from country) so I’m open to most suggestions.

@the anon about birthdays: Some of us have birthdays that we came with, some of us celebrate on the body's birthday, and some of us chose a day on which to celebrate when we showed up if we wanted to and we call them "manifestation days" because some of us wanna celebrate for a sense of normalcy, but not all systems are like that, as was said. We like to have our own days to celebrate ourselves every so often, which is why a lot of ours are on different days.

I used to be subscribed to a few serial manga ones as a kid, and a random magazine my grandmother thought I should like that was published by the pharmacy and was honestly terrible, but they stopped publishing around the financial collapse that happened in my country. Currently, I subscribe to absolutely nothing physical but I almost won a New Yorker subscription a while back.
