RioBlush relates to you
...and won't stop you relating to those around you!
We read this weekend that Botox can impair our ability to relate to others. A North Caroline professor of psychology and neuroscience, Tanya L. Chartrand, has recently published a paper discussing how the use of Botox reduces our ability to empathise with others.
For the study, Dr Chartrand chose two groups that could be matched on everything except their aesthetic treatment preferences. One group used the paralysing agent (Botox) and the other used a filler (Restylane).
The filler group were demographically similar to the paralysing agent group – in terms of age and gender, socio-economic status and that they had the same concerns and desires to look good.
The idea is that empathy, the way we think and feel, is grounded in our bodies. The way we understand others' emotions is by experiencing those emotions ourselves. We do this with facial micro-mimicry. If you are wincing in pain, I immediately do a micro-wince that sends signals to my brain and, by experiencing it myself, I understand what you are going through.
If you can't mimic someone's wince, your brain isn't going to be sent the same message – that I am experiencing pain – so you end up not being as accurate and not really understanding their emotion.
There's also research showing that Botox can help people feel better about themselves but if you are looking for something to give your skin a fresh, healthy glow and don't know where to start... why not try RioBlush Carboxy Therapy?
Carbon dioxide exists naturally in our bodies. Its role is to dilate the blood vessels in order to receive more oxygenated blood carrying nutrients to the muscles and, also, destroy fat cells.
In addition to its effect on fat cells and muscles, CO2 will also increase the amount of blood reaching the tissue layer beneath the skin and, as a result, your skin will look suppler and your fibrous tissue will get thicker and firmer.

When does my anti-aging serum expire?
At RioBlush we know most of us buy more products that can comfortably use before they expire. We do it in our kitchens and we repeat it in our bathrooms. Some beauty products have expiry dates printed on the packaging but, most of the time, you just don't know how long you should be using your creams and lotions for. Applying a 3 year old moisturiser isn't likely to harm your skin but it won't deliver the very benefits you went for in the first place. Powders last much longer than liquids and liquids in pumps last longer than liquids in jars.
The following are rough guidelines, the more a product is exposed to air and potential bacteria, the shorter its lifespan. Anti-ageing treatments: three months to a year. Serums with anti-oxidants can turn quickly; be on the lookout for any changes in colour. Anything with SPF: should have an expiry date. All others, up to three years. Body bleaches and depilatories: up to two years unopened or six months after first use. Body lotion: one year if opened and two to three years if unopened. The pump containers tend to stay fresh longest. Blush/bronzer: About 18 months after first use. Cream eye shadow: six months after first use. Cream blush: one year after first use. Deodorant: up to two years. Eye cream: unopened three years and one year after first use. Eye and lip pencils: three to five years. Sharpen them before each use as a way to preserve them and keep them clean. Facial moisturiser: One year after first use Foundation and concealer: about two years for oil-based and up to three years for water-based if unopened. Most of these products are designed to last up to a year. You should aim to use them up within half a year after first use. Hairstyling products: three to five years. Most are alcohol-based, which helps preserve the formula. Hair gel and spray typically last two to three years. Lip balm: good up to five years unopened and one to three years after first use. Lipstick and gloss: two to three years unopened or 18 months after first use. Mascara and liquid eyeliner: three to four months once you start using it. Two years if unopened. Nail varnish: one year. Nail varnish remover: not known expiry date.
Perfume: about two years. To get more out of your scent, store it in a cool, dark place. You can also keep it in its box in the fridge. Shampoo, conditioner and shower gel: about three years. Sunscreen: check the package for the expiry date, but aim to use it up within six months.
If you’re looking to indulge in some chocolate this Easter Sunday, rest assured you're also boosting your well-being.
Chocolate is our antidepressant of choice, and there’s science to prove our convictions; it promotes feelings of relaxation and wellbeing, boosting serotonin and endorphin levels in the brain.
Chocolate is also a powerful antioxidant; researchers at Cornell University have proved that cocoa contains more antioxidants than red wine or tea even though, as they later admitted, they commenced the study expecting green tea to win hands-down.
Back in 600 B.C. the Mayans and Aztecs started using Cocoa. They saw cocoa as a gift from the Gods and believed it had magical healing powers. Cocoa nourishes, moisturises and protects the skin, fighting the effects of free radicals and UV. It contains magnesium, iron, vitamin A, B1, B2, D and E.
Happy Easter!
