Thoughts on Kingsman: The Secret Service

I was re-watching the movie, and a thought occurred to me. In the scene where Arthur said to shoot the dog, why did Eggsy automatically assume that Arthur meant to kill JB? Why not point the gun at one of his paws, or somewhere else that wouldn’t result in death?

(I’m not saying that Eggsy should have shot the dog, just wondering why he thought he had to kill him)
