Also 100% watched this because of Matthew Lillard, expecting it to be a movie about punk and the alternative scene from the late 1990s. It wasn't what I expected at all but I'm not disappointed!

"The Man Who Fell to Earth" was released 50 years ago. The Man Who Fell to Earth is a 1976 British science fiction film directed by Nicolas Roeg and written by Paul Mayersberg.It was released on 18 March 1976. Based on Walter Tevis's 1963 novel of the same name, the film follows an extraterrestrial who crash lands on Earth seeking a way to ship water to his planet, which is suffering from a severe drought, but finds himself at the mercy of human vices and corruption. It stars David Bowie, Candy Clark, Buck Henry, and Rip Torn. The same novel was later adapted as a television film in 1987. #bowieforever

Best remembered for his roles in Baby Doll (1956), A Face in the Crowd (1957), Sweet Bird of Youth (1962), Critics Choice (1963), The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976), Men in Black (1997), and Marie Antoinette (2006), as well as for his countless TV roles, Rip was married to actress Geraldine Page (who he met during production of Sweet Bird of Youth) from 1963 until her passing in 1987. Fun Fact: During their marriage, Rip found it particularly amusing that the doorbell label outside of their New York townhouse read "Torn Page".
