Viserys: *upset at or some to do with Rhaenyra*
Otto: well your grace, I might have a solution-
Viserys: absolutely not.
Otto: you haven’t even-
Viserys: no.
Honestly, how are some of you only now seeing that Daemon never wanted the throne and only ever wanted to be by his brothers side and with the woman he loved?

Chapter 1: The Beast Beneath the Boards
Within the halls there were no whispers or even soft footsteps of the handmaidens that scattered the floor of the Red Keep. The cool, crisp air kept Visaera comfortable in the tanned linen of her sheets, her silver locks framing her porcelain face perfectly. Unfortunately, the girl did not dream as did some of her ancestors; nothing but blackness clouded her subconscious. Her slumber kept her from knowing the ugly truth of what was truly going on.
Although they were not heard, the maids and little spiders were chattering in secret about what would be told. It is said a young boy who waited on the King himself, saw with his own eyes the old, and very ill King Viserys dead in his own bed. The whispers in the Keep meddled about how His Grace passed. Whether the Queen or The Hand played part, or if the diseased body finally slayed him, it mattered not to them, but what was yet to come would.
The slumber kept the Princess at bay while the small council gathered to meet about the death of her father and the usurping of the Iron Throne right from under her sister, the Princess Rhaenrya, who was named as heir by the King himself. The Queen insisted that King Viserys uttered his final wish to her only, naming Aegon his heir and although no one within the small council truly believed her, none but one spoke up… his time endly swiftly at the hands of Ser Criston Cole. He to be named as Lord Commander of the Kingsguard after Ser Westerling turned in his white cloak. News would not break of the King’s death to the public until Aegon ascended into power, but would be told to Visaera the following morning…
As day broke, the icy eyes of Visaera opened. She was awake before her lady in waiting, Naelys arrived. Not even a moment had passed, before Naelys came rushing in, giving a small bow, and immediately going to Visaera’s wardrobe. “Good morrow to you as well, Naelys… is everything alright?” Her words were a jest at first, but grew concered. “Yes, my princess, all is well. The Queen has requested an audience at once, is all.” Naelys’s voice was one of a song-bird; very cheerful, although, her face showed quite the different. The princess rose from her bed, gathering herself right at the foot, her eyebrows raised and her lips pursed as if to tell her handmaided to be truthful. Of course Naelys heard the gossip in the night, but refused to fix her lips to even whisper such a scandal… mostly to due the majority of the Keep’s acquired help being imprisoned for knowing anything of the matter. The middle-aged woman just gave a plain smile and shook her head, “There is nothing more my princess.” Visaera still had her suspicions but she let them go, only because she knew that whatever it was, she would know soon.
The dress that Naelys picked out for Visaera was that of black, adorned with red embroidery. As of late she rebelled against her mother and still wore House Targaryen colors, while the rest of her family wore green. She felt it unnecessary since she was not that of a Hightower, but a Targaryen. Her physical appearance proved it; the silver hair and the bluest of eyes. After getting dressed, Naelys helped herself to braid the Princess’s hair. Two braids on either side of her head fell right behind her ears to join the rest of her wavy locks. Her neck was decorated with a simple necklace gifted to her by her father, one made of Valyrian steel, gathered at the front was her House sigil: the three-headed dragon.
Once dressed, the Princess was escorted to her mother’s chambers. It seems that she was the last to join the family. A truly predictable happening, and Visaera made a mental note of that. Her mother seemed to have been crying, her face puffy and eyes to match. Visaera’s face turned, her brows furrowing as she spoke, “Mother, I don’t understand what is goi-“ She was cut off, her mother scooping her hands in her own, a shaky breath echoing into the now silent room, “Your father has passed in the night, my love..” Her eyes matched her sorrow. Even the queen could not deny the love and respect her youngest daughter had for her father. Tears stung the girl’s eyes, all her siblings watching… all but Aegon who was not present. Aemond of course showed no emotion, his eye trained on his younger sister. Helaena held her children close, her eyes low as mouth a thin line. By the fireplace stood her grandsire, The Hand of the King, Otto Hightower. Even as a girl, she was indifferent towards him and the feelings seemed to be reciprocated towards her, for he gave all of his attention to her older siblings.
Numb. Nothing crossed Visaera’s mind. Yet, she refused to seem weak in the eyes of her remaining family. Her mother guided her to sit, a seat right beside Aemond, who was still stiff and rigid without emotion. “Now, Visaera we will have arrangements for your father, but for now we need to find Aegon so he can ascend the Iron Throne.” Her empty mind was then filled with fire, dragon fire. How dare he. The voice that dared spilled such treachery was none other than the Hand. “You mean to usurp the throne from Rhaenyra?!” On her feet, she stood tall, slowly stalking towards the man she would once call her grandfather. Her mouth hung slightly open, ready to scream to the Seven for his treasonous words. Although she did not grow up with her half-sister, she was told of her by both sides, her father’s always standing tall. She was supposed to assume power and be the first Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, something she herself lusted for. Just as The Hand went for a response, a hand caught her elbow, and The Queen rose from her seat. Her face showed no more remorse or sorrow for the King’s death, but now remained authority and an exceedingly proud need to be in control. Her hands were gathered at her front, her lips squeezed into a thin line as she took a breath, “There will be no more of the nonsense. Aegon will be King. Your grandfather will travel to Dragonstone to give Princess Rhaenyra terms. And you will serve the Crown as the dutiful princess you are.” Visaera’s jaw clenched as she turned to her mother, yanking her arm free from Aemond. Her mother was a puppet and she knew it. But this, this woman who stood in front of her was different.
Before taking her leave, Visaera stood motionless and outnumbered, listening while her mother set things into motion with her grandfather. What would become of this? Was all she could muster to think. Visaera was five and ten years of age, her hand would be in question since she was past age to bed a High Lord of the Seven Kingdoms. The vile thoughts of having to hand over her maidenhead to that of a man she did not know made her weary. She did not want to marry. She did not want to birth heirs.
Once back in her apartments, Visaera sat dormant in her bed, staring out of the window that she could and wanted so desperately jump out of; rid herself of the damned curse it was to be in House Targaryen with these… these treasonous traitors. Traitors to her father and his true wishes. Traitors to the line of succession. Traitors to the oaths they spoke to Rhaenyra. Visaera was snapped out of her venomous thoughts by her mother entering her chambers. A softer expression she wore now, her lips into a slight frown. “My sweet girl… my youngest. You have grown into quite the dragon, from your father of course.” She gave a small smile and nod, “I have no wish for quarrels with you, my love. But it seems that we are at odds. I loved your father until his dying breath, Gods know it. My dear daughter, I swear it that it was your father’s dying wish that Aegon be King.” It was as if she was begging her daughter to believe her like she was a child in trouble. “I have sent your brother to search for Aegon with Ser Criston, as it seems The Hand has sent Aegon’s guards to search for him as well. I’m afraid he will try to sway Aegon to do away with your sister and her children, that I do not wish for.” A small, and very skeptical sigh of relief left the Princess’s lips, “Once Aegon has ascended into power, there will be a feast and we shall hold Court… maybe there you will find a fine Lord to take you to wife.” The relief was smashed to pieces with the words that left her mother, “I do not wish to marry some High Lord and be kept away from the Red Keep. My spot is here in King’s Landing.” The words were woven with venom towards her mother, “Well, my daughter… hopefully your mind shall change.” And with her final words, the Queen left.
It was now a day late. Visaera was dressed in one of her finest dresses. It was black, the sweetheart neckline plunging to expose her cleavage, unbecoming of a princess, her grandsire would of course spew. The dress was paired with a cloak of matching fabric, the collar encasing her neck halfway up and the shoulders adorned with silver and gold jewels. “A true Targaryen..” Naelys spoke in a whisper, “Incredibly stunning, my Princess.” A bashful grin wore on her plump lips as she glanced at her handmaiden through her vanity mirror. “Thank you Naelys, it means so much coming from you sweetheart.” Her hair was pulled into a braided updo to expose her dangling ruby earrings. All gifts of such beauty were given to her by her father on each of her name days. She had other jewelry… green jewelry that she seldomly wore. Truthfully, it just did not match her skin the way it did her siblings. Or at least that is what she told herself.
The Princess was escorted out of the Red Keep and right into a carriage. One she would share with her stone-faced brother, Aemond. It seemed like Visaera caught him off guard, his one eye wide, but only for a moment. “Sister.” He nodded. She sat across from him, her head held high. “Brother.” A response she decided she could gift him. The two never seemed to get along, even since childhood. She felt as if he owed her gratitude for defending him as a child when he decided to go claim Vhagar, a dragon that did not in the slightest belong to him. As he proceeded to get beat by Rhaenyra and Daemon’s children from their previous arrangements, Visaera stumbled upon the entire thing, running to her older brother’s rescue… fighting off their cousins tooth and nail, not before Lucerys took an eye of course. Suppose that is why he did not treat her as a sister… because she could not save him from fate. The ride was slow and silent, stolen glances from Aemond to Visaera and vise versa throughout the ride. Aemond despised his sister, yet he could not keep his eye off of her, her stunning beauty claiming his thoughts. He refused to attend to her as his sister, for he knew what side she was truly on and it was not that of his mother’s, but of her own accord. He knew that although she loved Rhaenyra, she did not exceedingly care for her stake in claim nor that of Aegon, or even himself. He was disgusted that she dressed as if she were the one to be ascending the throne and not their older brother. And in that, Visaera’s deepest darkest desires lie.
“Aemond, if you must stare, could you at least make conversation first.” Visaera spat, her eyes staring daggers into her brother’s remaining. “I have no will to speak to a disguised snake.” To that she laughed, “Dear brother, only you know of what it is to wear a disguise…” She hummed, leaning forward only to be inches away from her brother. His narrowed eyes and sinister snarl, may frighten off most of the Red Keep and even the commoners outside, but only proved his sister’s point. “Oh, please… put away your teeth brother. I was only jesting.” She said as she sat back into the seat.
It was not too much longer before the carriage came to a halt, the sound of the steps being put in front of the doors of the enclosure tickling the Princess’s ears. Visaera took a small breath and painted on her famous smile as the doors opens, members of the Kingsguard standing next to the steps with their arms extended for her to take as she exited, only she did not, Aemond seemed to slither in front of her to get out. His broad shoulder and long hair swaying as he walked away from the carriage. His swagger was unmatchable to any man, knight, lord, or even the King himself within the Seven Kingdoms. It disgusted her. She took the hand of the Kingsguard as she stepped out of the carriage to be escorted to the Dragon Pit. It made her think of her dear dragon, Dreamfyre. I’ll have to take her for a breath after this is all over… It hadn’t been ages since she rode her dearly beloved dragon, but it was too long for her liking. She was met with familiar faces in the front of the Pit: The small council stood off to the right, Visaera taking her place in front of them next to Aemond, then to his left stood Helaena and Ser Criston. The Queen and the Hand front and center to speak to the masses.
The Hand announced the death of their father and KingViserys The Peaceful and how it was time to name a new King… that being Aegon. In the way the Hand delivered Aegon as King, made Visaera sick, as if the King wanted this. Targaryen knights and gold cloaks formed two lines through the crowd, drawing their steel as the horns played. For the first time in three days she saw her oldest brother… Aegon adorned in black, the Targaryen sigil mounted front and center of his tunic. Her dear brother looked like he had been dragged through all seven hells to be brought here. As the knights dissipated, Aegon knelt before the High Septon as he was anointed in front of the Seven. Ser Criston, now the Commander of the Kingsguard, crowned Aegon as she and the rest of the subjects of King’s Landing watched on, whispers filling the great venue. That was until he was named King, cheers erupting as he threw up his sword, the once cowering Targaryen now being filled with a sense of recognition and now acceptance as King… though, it was cut short by the eruption of Meleys, the dragon belonging to Visaera’s Aunt Rhaenys Targaryen her common name being The Queen that Never Was. As the masses scattered and screamed, Visaera did not move an inch, seeing as this may be her end. Without a word, or a breath of fire, Meleys roared in their faces and then flew out of the Dragon Pit. She knew what this meant. War would ensure. A war she did not plan to be apart of. Rhaenys would certainly be playing to Dragonstone to inform the rightful heir of what had just happened. Visaera took it upon herself to take leave. Although she did not leave the Pit, instead she went down to its depths in search of her dragon.
Dreamfyre, as well as the remaining dragons being her brothers’ were all on their feet, rumbles of their growls echoing in the dark tunnels of the pit. And there she was, Visaera’s great dragon. In all her might Dreamfyre was a beauty, blue and white and very large. Her first rider being Rhaena Targaryen 70 years ago. Approaching her dragon, Visaera ran her hand along her face, shushing her from any stress, “Issa sȳz, ñuha mighty zaldrīzes, īlon tolī kessa sagon dāez aderī” It is fine, my mighty dragon, we too shall be free soon. She could not mount her dragon is this attire, so she would come back later that night to take her to the skies. A sacred and secret escape is what she longed for. Not to leave King’s Landing, but to be free just for a moment. Taking a torch from the walls, Visaera bid her dragon goodbye and set off to return to the chaos. Only to be stopped in the midst of her return by being slammed against the wall by her throat, a dagger in the hand that was once there’s place. Her head bounce off of the stone, rendering her unable to defend herself, “You plan to escape you slithering whore?” The particles of saliva landed on her face as the familiar voice boomed through her skull, washing over the ringing. “Hm.. answer me!" Dreamfyre could be heard growling; the bond the two had being strong as the likes of Daemon and Caraxes. As everything became clear again, she could now see that the person screaming and holding her at knife-point was indeed Aemond. “You fool! I was only seeing if she was safe!” Her voice was bitter, but shaky as tears blurred her vision. Not that she was scared, but in pain. The stone had gashed her scalp, blood sinking into the stone behind her. Aemond scoffed at the response, leaning down and over to her ear, “I am not an idiot, you impudent little whore. If you mean to escape, I will hunt you with Vhagar and sentence you to death by fire myself.” His teeth were gritted and his free hand balled at the nape of her neck with her now red-stained hair.
The couple appeared from the shadows, Aemond’s hand still balled in her locks as he seemingly dragged her towards their mother, “She was trying to escape on Dreamfyre!” His voice echoed through the now empty Dragon Pit, their family who was all together, making niceties and checking on one another had turned to face them. Alicent let go of Helaena and rushed towards Aemond, waiting until they were face to face to speak. “Let her go this instant, there are people here!” Her voice was as sharp as a knife and thankfully her brother was made to be an obedient dog. He unhanded Visaera with a shove. Thanking the Seven silently, she gathered herself from the ground, her eyes full of flames as they shot at Aemond, “You dare handle me as if I’m your toy in the yard!” She was referring to the new Commander of the Kingsguard as she hurled at her brother, “I will hang you myself!” She screamed. Aemond’s brow arched as he turned towards his mother, “She was about to mouth the damned dragon!” He was angry and so calm at the same time; it was a wonder how he became to master the two at the same time. “I care not of the happenings at the moment! Aemond you will bring Visaera back to the Red Keep at once! Without injuring your sister any further!” Visaera was in disbelief, her own mother sending her back with her attacker. Alone. Once Alicent returned to Helaena, she directed one of the Kingsguard to escort the siblings back home.
Once back at the Red Keep, Aemond took leave off to his own chambers, Visaera to hers with the loyal knight right outside incase of unwanted company. While the siblings were separated and back at the Keep, Alicent and Otto took to the carriage to have a conversation about the growing problem they would have in Visaera. “I have not a single clue of what to do with her, father… she mirrors Prince Daemon and sometimes is even worse than that! I do not wish to marry my daughter off to some noble man for some bannermen, when all have already sworn fealty to Aegon…” She was at a loss with her daughter. “Could I suggest something closer to home… seeing that Aemond is unwed and seems to have a tight watch on Visaera, betroth them.” The Hand suggested and for a moment and a moment only she relented the thought, but as the conversation went on, she agreed.
Aemond and Visaera would be married in a fortnight.
