Yesterday I had a customer ask me where I was from because "You don't sound like you're from here, you have a different kick on how you say things" I laughed and proudly said HOUSTON, TEXAS. Her response was "Sweet Lord, please don't go back home. It's getting really scary in the south. They're killing everybody". Today I wake up to read another life was stripped away off of Cullen & Yellowstone in my city of Houston...10 gun shots took Alva Braziel's life in the city I was born and raised in, in an area not too far away from where my family and friends live. RIGHT THERE ON THE SOUTH/EASTSIDE OF HOUSTON, this shit has got to stop. I slowly feel like America is crumbling underneath my feet. I went to elementary school and grew up in Denver Harbor, middle school in the 4th Ward before it was gentrified, and finished school off in Pasadena. I don't want to wake up and see that one of my friends BLACK or HISPANIC lost their lives to police brutality. I don't want a white lady telling me not to go back to the South because they're killing everybody, it's sickening. The fact is we live in a country that was built off racism, we have a huge problem systematic racism. I HAVE FRIENDS AND FAMILY THAT ARE COPS, I do NOT believe all of them are bad. I'm speaking up for the people that no longer have their voice because they just happened to be at the wrong place, at the wrong time, with the wrong cop, and lost their lives because instead of shooting to injure that cop decided to put 10 bullets to someone's body. It's not right. Keep in mind, if you're silent...you're just as violent #BLACKLIVESMATTER #RIPAlvaBraziel #prayforHouston
