Testing and Covid Cases
Recently I shared that Trump admitted at his rally that he purposely slowed down testing so it would appear that there were fewer cases of Covid. Now we are testing a little more, but we are also seeing rising numbers of cases all over the country.
The Government is claiming that we are seeing more cases because we are testing more. However, simple logic disproves this. First, we need to understand that we are not doing random or widespread testing of the population. We are still testing people who seek out tests due to having symptoms. To find more cases from more testing, we would have to be doing random tests of the population.
Second, hospitalization numbers are rising in areas around the country. These numbers are independent of whether we are testing or not. Even if we didn’t test at all we could get an idea of cases from how many people are hospitalized. Right now, those numbers are rising, despite the government’s insistence that rates are dropping.
Also, the percentage of positive tests are rising. If we tested 100 people who went to their doctor with symptoms and 15% tested positive before, and now we test 1000 people and 30% test positive, then that means the cases are rising. It’s not the number of tests we are doing. (These are example numbers)
So please don’t fall into a false sense of security. The number of cases are rising, and we can clearly see that people are catching Covid due to re-openings and not taking precautions.
