This July, we had a few visitors, so we seized that opportunity to pay more visits to the capital city.
We embarked onto the London Eye with spectacular views over London.
Walked the streets and took the river bus again...
And went north to Kenwood house and park (a free-for-all English Heritage property thanks to a Guinness millionnaire). The painting collection is interesting (Rembrandt, Vermeer and many others) and the park much visited by Londoners and tourists alike.
Passing through Camden Town, we realised we still have so much to discover...
Artist Reydzi Matsumoto works in the genre of manga and anime, he designed a ship named Himiko. His creation is more like a spaceship than a river bus. Dimensions of Himiko: 33 x 8 meters, displacement is 114 tons.
Boat tours can be great, but they're no replacement for getting quickly from A to B. So here's four everyday alternatives to the usual commute in four fantastic cities.
Venice - There are only three bridges which cross Venice's Grand Canal. So, instead, at the seven piers along the waterway, hop on a traghetto. These boats are the no-frills version of a gondola, and a journey across the canal costs less than one euro. (Photo credit: yellow book)
NYC/Brooklyn - The recently opened East River Ferry connects popular spots in Brooklyn and Manhattan together. On Saturdays and Sundays during the summer try travelling to and from the Brooklyn Flea Market, the ferry lands right next to it!
Chicago - the Chicago Water Taxi is an inexpensive transport alternative, and particularly useful if you want a more interesting way to get from Chinatown to North Michigan Avenue's shopping.
London - the River Bus links important locations along the Thames like the London Eye and Canary Wharf, and is part of London's public transport, meaning you benefit from using an Oyster card.
