Idk if any of y’all identified as butch lesbians in the mid 2010s but I just learned you can buy Cameron Esposito and River Butcher’s show Take My Wife on Amazon Prime. I never watched it as a teen because I was in a super homophobic household, and then it was off of all streaming services for a while, so I assumed I wouldn’t ever get to watch it…but after finishing a rewatch of Tig Notaro’s show I googled and am now emotionally preparing to give 2018 me what the poor baby dreamed of

I hated how people treated me when they perceived me as butch #and (don’t crucify me) I still get pissed with how self identified femmes often treat me #and then you can’t complain because people will no true Scotsman you six ways to Sunday #anyways! baby me is about to get their shit rocked

Biological females have the right to express themselves whatever they want.

Styles like flannel shirt and short hair are never exclusive to males.

No one has the right to pressure us lesbians into choosing what to identify as, not even ourselves.

As a biological female, I prefer to appear natural and dress up in the way that I find the most convenient. But the pressure is there, out there in the real world.

I look up to women who produce and name new masculinities, including the ones that do not appear in media. I am happy for the ones who release the pressure through identifying as anything but a woman. But the lack of representation of female masculinities they left behind cannot be denied. At times, feeding back into this loop may be hard to resist. So I made the gif just to celebrate their brave statement at a time when that pressure was not all overwhelming.

Perhaps, saying "I am a beautiful woman by our own standard" while standing up with fellow females is not as simple as I thought it was. Is it?

But the proud lesbians throughout history across all cultures have convinced me that the masculinities they created in our subculture are beautiful and original.

There will always be men who deny the originality of our masculinities, just as there will always be men who deny our existence.

Them expecting too much from lesbian feminism, is technically comedy.
