super curious- does the WAC world have any specific naming traditions beyond what youve established for colonies like the Flock and Warbler’s original home or do cats just kinda name their kids whatever?
Each colony had their own little culture before the king started conquering all of them and integrating them into one huge thing. I'm sure all of those colonies had their own naming conventions+other cultural practices but they're so intermingled into the King's army now that names just look to be random. So you get names like Frost and Hopper and Shards and Sycamore and Anthill that don't look like they have any similarities.
I don't know how many colonies there were or what each individual culture was (that would be a lot of extra work for very little reason), but here's a couple that I do know:
Sycamore's colony named everybody after plants (to symbolize being grounded and connected to the earth. Her colony was particularly superstitious and religious). She continued this tradition with her son Aster.
Frost (and his father Dew, who is a general (who isn't important but i know that he exists)) come from a colony where you're named after something during the time of day you were born. Frost and Dew were both born in the morning, hence their names.
