River of Dreams is the twelfth studio album by American singer-songwriter Billy Joel, released on August 10, 1993. River of Dreams presented a more serious tone than found in Joel's previous albums, dealing with issues such as trust and long-lasting love. It was rumoured that the themes of trust and betrayal, particularly certain lyrics from the songs "A Minor Variation" and "The Great Wall of China", stem from Joel's legal disputes with his former manager and ex-brother-in-law, Frank Weber, who reportedly embezzled millions of dollars from Joel and used dubious accounting practices to cover it up.

Deep within the forests exists the legend of La Patasola, the female monster luring loggers, hunters, miners— anyone who violates nature —away from safety. She inhabits mountain ranges, virgin forests, and the jungle. La Patasola will appear in the form of a beautiful and seductive woman, sometimes in the the likeness of a loved one. As a spirit being, she’ll block shortcuts through the jungle, disorient hunters, and throw hunting dogs off the scent of their game. Only once she lures the men away from their companions, following her deeper into the forest, she reveals her true, hideous appearance as a one-legged monster with eyes of fire, a Medusa head with jaguar teeth and a voracious appetite for human flesh and blood. La Patasola is regarded as protective of nature and wildlife, and unforgiving when humans enter their domains to alter or destroy them. Dereck Joubert is an award-winning wildlife filmmaker and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence, who has been filming, researching and exploring in Africa for over 30 years with his wife, Beverly Joubert. Their mission is to save the wild places of Africa and to protect the creatures that depend on them. Screened their incredible director’s cut of the documentary Okavango: River of Dreams and it is the most beautifully shot film I have ever seen on Africa. During the four years it took to capture the footage, these two were up at 4am every morning and there is a sequence where a lion attacked a water buffalo calf and was gored by the mother. Dereck was attacked by the same water buffalo and Beverly was gored from under her left arm, through her shoulder. To recreate her face, she has 48 steel plates in her neck and face.
