the first thing you could see when the new times were given out was the wide eyes and stressed look on hyuna’s face. realizing her and jei would be on the same team, after the argument about he ankle, was definitely not the way to meet up again and make up.

she didn’t know sungyeol, didn’t know daniel, didn’t know guanlin, didn’t know rose. it was stressing her that she had no idea how things were going to go down. panicking hyuna isn’t a good person to meet.

however, it was calm, it was nice. the team was nice to work with, taking her out of the loop she had with her previous team and she actually felt warm and welcomed, she felt happy about the team and slowly, things went back to how they should be.

her and jei made up, in the weirdest way possible, with jei making her cry on potentially national tv by just flat out saying they are best friends. and it was true, they were and always would be. even with the ups and down, even with everything going on and the mess they have gotten into called the mga’s, hyuna would always be happy that she had jei on her side.

even if she made her cry on tv again.

daniel was nice, he was curious soul as a leader. very fun guy and hyuna really enjoyed giving him the tips and tricks of getting into rapping, it was nice. even if he didn’t really plan on getting into rapping, it would be fun to see how things developed, maybe one of his friends was interested.

she would admit, she was all heart eyes at rose. who wouldn’t be? she probably shoved jei more than a few dozen time asking her if it was possible for someone to be this pretty. she definitely said it out loud and to rose’s face a few times because it was the truth, it was how she acted.

sungyeol was definitely an interesting match. he did seem intimidated by her, but at least it was just one person this time, she definitely found it easier to work through. she managed to at least keep up with him, conversations, laughs and the stupid jokes hyuna loved to use. it was a nice ice-breaker.

and finally came guanlin, her partner for the dance. he was cute as well, quite innocent and fun to be around. simply put, hyuna spend the most time with him, because the language barrier was easy to get through, english, her basic chinese, and korean were an easy way to talk to each other rand work on stuff.

it was a fun week, and hyuna loved it. however, the performance day came and she was more than ready for this.

the song was fun, and so was the couple dance. it was lighthearted song, filled with tropical house which was definitely showing the summer vibes.

she was wearing something casual, not as bright as she would have liked but it would do. they were all stood on stage, each was next to their partner and they all introduced themselves.

“i’m your dusk till dawn, kim hyuna, number 4008!“ she said, smiling widely and looking at a camera pointed in her direction before waving. they didn;t have long before the usual happened and they were asked to head to their starting positions and so they did.

the way the song went. she didn’t have much to wait until her favorite part came up. the little fanservice her and jei had planned. when it was her opening line, they both moved to the center stage, hyuna’s fingers reaching to jei’s chin, making her look at her and she felt the other’s own fingers against her cheek. there was a grin on the rapper’s lips as she pulled the mic up to her lips.

can i get your attention baby girl?

she asked, and they were back to the original choreography.

maybe hyuna should have been grateful that royal taught her how to be a stable rapper, how to dance like that, cover the pain she felt and still be able to do a live stage. and truth to be said, she was, but would she ever admit it out loud?

then she moved out of the way in order for daniel to take up the center stage and the couple dances continued. maybe she was having too much fun with it, she didn’t realize. how quickly the stage ended.

only when jei leaned against her, arm around her and the words “hasta la vista, baby!” being yelled into her hand mic did she realize the stage had finished. but she didn’t regret, she kept on smiling, leaning into jei even more.

she was happy and it was all thanks to jei.

it was time, the day of the mock interview with the coaches, once again another test minhee was eager to pass like a good student but it is never that easy. she spent time preparing for this interview but what if she is underprepared or overprepared? the anxious thoughts started to plague the mind has entered the room, bowing & greeting all the coaches with a bright yet somewhat nervous smile. minhee sat down in a chair in front of the panel of the coaches like it was some job interview, she pulled her hair back into a bun cause she knew she would end up playing with her hair during the interview if she left it down. the trainee sat up straight, legs closed together placing her hands on her thighs sitting alike lady which her mother brought her up to be.  she took a deep breathe, preparing for what to come.

questions time.

The first coached looked at Minhee asking the following question; 

“You just released your debut song. Say a few words about it”

Minhee smiled brightly at the coached who asked the first question, she had a feeling on this would be one of the types of questions, so she prepared her our imaginary girl group name and idea on what the other sphere trainees would be. It was silly really and never thought she would able to get use it right now. “Urania’s debut song Stellar is a beautifully melodic piece of music gifted alongside unique vocals and words filled with wanderlust. You will fill like you would be transported to another universe, please support us and look forward to us in the future!” 

“How do you feel about your company’s style of music?”

Onto the next question, this one felt so easy to answer as she is a fan of all the senior artists under Sphere entertainment and felt honored that she is now trainee under such company.  “I love the style of music of sphere! You find the songs are always quite refreshing to listen to and I’m huge fan of many seniors within the company especially Sunny Hill, personally love the lyrics of their songs always fills my heart with different kinds of emotions. I’m excited to get a chance one day to work with the music geniuses behind the songs I love and create something for which Sphere would be proud of.” 

What’s your position in the group? Aside from your position, what special talents do you think you have? (Feel free to demonstrate.) 

The one question she has been dreading as she doesn’t know what position she would fit in the group and she believes she doesn’t have many special talents either yet she just play what she believes her strengths are, a soft hum vibrated from her lips before she answered with full of enthusiasm “I’m Moodmaker Minhee who’s charge of the visual & vocals of the group! I make sure my girls are always happy ready for anything to make it easier for the leader. Would you say pole dancing is special talent?” she laughed softly shaking her head, “I know how to work a needle and create things with my hands but I think my personal talent would be my pokemon impressions. I spent a lot of time watching cartoons when I was sick in my younger years so I end up picking up on how to do pokemon impression..” she explained before showing off her pikachu impression with cute mannerisms to match too.

“I’m number one-” she answered quickly showing off a finger before laughing softly, shaking her head in embarrassment, clearing her throat. “I mean we are very beautiful in our own ways. Honestly, I think Rachel would be number one, she’s so tall and model like...so pretty..I can’t compete with that. Second would be Seulgi, she has such unique look to her and reminds me of an adorable elf. Irene & Juyeon next, those two are so small and precious looking dolls. Sulli & Luna next, their charms are so different, Luna tanned complexion is like summer beautiful compare to snow white Sulli! Lastly, there is me, Minhee..”

You were a trainee for 8 months, Was it difficult? Why do you think you debuted so quickly?

Minhee laughs a little at the question, in all honesty, if she did ever debut now she wouldn’t feel she was ready. There is so much she needed to learn before even being put in the spotlight yet she had to think on why would the company think she would be ready. “It’s very challenging yet rewarding too. At times you want to give up as it seems impossible but then thanks to either fellow trainee or a coach to push you that extra mile to achieve the goal in hand. I think they saw that I’m willing to work my hardest every day and found that valuable trait to have to become an idol. Hopefully, I can be a good influence on others in the progress.” 

Idol schedules are quite difficult. How many hours of sleep do you get per night? How often do you get to see your family? Did you enjoy chuseok?

”What is sleep?” she joked playfully before shaking her head, tapping her lower lip lightly with a smile. “I tend to have this habit of falling asleep in most bizarre places, I think that where my nickname came along. I’ll work until my body stop that enough then I literally crash. I am not sure on how much sleep do have but I tend to sleep deeply  & well.”  Minhee’s heartfelt somewhat heavy about the family question, she honestly missed them so much and wish she could see more than she could. “I always enjoy Chuseok, I move back in with my parents during that period. Just so I can eat with them for breakfast and dinner when I got home from training. My mother would give me massage to loosen my tense muscles sometimes...due to the training. I don’t get to see them often as I want to but I always get supportive text messages from family members. They always make me smile when I see that they are proud of me for working hard. I would like to make sure that I make my parents proud and give back to them once I can. So they can live comfortably.” 

Why do you think you deserve to debut?

These questions really knew how to hit the heartstrings, asking some questions she asked herself and finding the answers for herself. Minhee ponders for a while as a smile to herself then gave an honest answer, “I don’t think I deserve debut just yet, I believe I still need to work on a few things. Sharpen my tools so to speak. The reason I want to be because I’m willing to go the extra mile, push a little harder than any other else. My ability to preserve and help aspire others when feeling not so strong myself would be a valuable trait to have in a girl group. I want to be the glue which helps everything sticks together. I deserve debut when you believe I have done enough to show that I’m one you need.” 

You post a picture of Lee Seunghwan, which you call him by Kangjoon and posted it on Instagram. How do you know them?

The girl's face brightens up at the question, laughing softly to herself as the memory of their first meeting replayed in their mind. “We went high school together & he was the reason I got my first detention, ruined my perfect record. I remember I was so scared about it, not sure what even detention was yet I guess we bond other that moment. We’ve been friends for many years since then. Back then, he would never be that we both trainees now but look how far we have come. He’s like a brother from another mother...”

in life, chanyeol has learned, there are two kinds of people. the kind that brush off chanyeol’s comments as they should, treating them like pests that should be swatted away to avoid accidentally contracting the plague or some other infectious disease. and then there are the people who take his words at face value, who actually encourage the words that come out of his mouth with no filter and won’t reprimand or poke fun at him.

he never expected that joohyun would be the latter.

she seemed reserved when he’d first met her, the type to stick to that with which she is comfortable, and at first she’d fit into the mold he’d placed her in. and there was nothing wrong with that; in fact, despite what most people thought, there were times when chanyeol also preferred what he was comfortable with, and it showed in the fact that he chose not to learn any choreography for this month’s evaluations. but she surprised him, coming to him unexpectedly to tell him that she wanted to do the pepero commercial he’d suggested mostly out of jest, and she quickly became the type that was one of his favorite people. after all, those who take him seriously can be few and far between.

preparations had to happen fairly quickly, as they’d been set on doing a rap duet at first, and it turned out finding props and writing a short script proved to be just as difficult as arranging a song and a performance, only with the added difficult of faking it until you make it, becaues despite proclomations made at various times in his life, his “natural-born acting talent” is nothing but a mere myth crafted from his most silver of tongues.

through the following weeks, he found her warming up to his vastly different personality, a warmth coming through the quiet barrier he felt when they’d first met. if he didn’t know better, he’d have believed that the coaches and staff had created this month’s evaluations out of the idea that new friends should be made from the experience, but chanyeol doesn’t believe they’re pure of heart enough for that to be true. in any case, he’s glad that it happened anyway, and hopes that even after this is all over that he’ll have a new friend for life.

the day of the evaluations comes much more quickly than he expects, time filled with practices not only for the evaluation, but with the regular singing and dancing rapping lessons, the gym time, the extra hours spent still trying to get his body to at least move in time with the other trainees. but despite the speed with which the day comes and despite his lack of experience in what they’re trying to accomplish, he feels ready and prepared.

all of that readiness and preparedness nearly disappears when he’s facing the staff, but the confidence with which joohyun introduces herself renews his own and he follows up with an introduction just as strong, voice as loud as always. “park chanyeol, trc trainee, resident pokémon master.”

right, can’t forget that part.

after a bit of explanation about their performance, he scurries over to his starting position, pocky boxes at the ready. he delivers them one by one, expression much like the one he sports every day when he’s with his friends, endlessly teasing, mischeivous. he thinks of minseok, who just as easily bounces insults off of his energy during playful banter, of jennie, who is just as quick-witted as he is, of tiffany, and how he can’t help but try to annoy her with every passing second, of jongdae and baekhyun, who he finds easy targets only because he treasures them so much, and of joohyun, who takes his never-ending words with a soft and pretty smile.

he grins at her as she finally turns around, birthday cake in his hand and candles lit. here, he thinks of his mother, and the birthdays he’s missed, and puts the combination of the pent up energy from missed celebrations into this soft smile, one usually reserved for his mother on her birthday, the one day of the year she claims he doesn’t give her a headache.

he surprises even himself when he nearly chokes up while singing the birthday song.

they both face the staff together, and he counts on his charm to carry him the rest of the way. “lotto pepero, the perfect gift to compliment any celebration!”

Black Happiness | Solo

Sanity.

That’s probably what Wendy lacked when she agreed to engage in three evaluation performances, but there was only one that was actually a choice she made without the help of her instructors. She had wanted to preserve the sanity of both herself and her partner when they were strategizing how to showcase their respective skills without half-assing the production. After all, Wendy couldn’t be the only one Joohyun sunbaenim’s working with. Besides, she also wanted it to be as hassle-free for the older girl, considering she had a broken arm and none of them were fond of dancing.

She rushes out of the studio where she and Yuta oppa were evaluated and made her way to the room where she and Joohyun sunbaenim will be judged next. She makes it to the room with at least 20 minutes to spare before it’s their turn. Wendy makes herself look presentable and ready, rather than someone who had run from the other side of the Seocho complex. She spends the rest of the time meditating and clearing her head, that by the time she and Joohyun sunbaenim are called to perform, she’s calm enough to genuinely smile at the coaches evaluating them.  

She sees a few familiar faces of her instructors who have apparently followed her from the previous evaluation. “And I’m Son Seungwan from Nova Entertainment,” Wendy says after Joohyun sunbaenim takes the lead to introduce themselves and their song. She turns to Joohyun sunbaenim, and pumps her fists while whispering “Fighting!” She just settled on her designated stool, and nods to Joohyun sunbaenim to let her know that she’s ready. There’s a slight twinge of regret that Wendy’s not playing her guitar for this one, because she could have easily come up with an arrangement. She supposes the coaches at Nova are sick of seeing her with a guitar almost every month, so there’s that.

Wendy will be the first to admit that she had apprehensions when she was coming up with ideas for songs she could suggest she and Joohyun sunbaenim could do. She’s aware that they have almost conflicting taste in music, at least from what Seulgi tells her. It still mystifies her that Joohyun sunbaenim agreed to do this song without much argument. However, Wendy is aware that Joohyun sunbaenim is fond of songs whose lyrics mean something. At least, that’s what they have in common… which is why she chose a song that had both meaningful lyrics and that showed off their skills perfectly. As she listens to Joohyun sunbaenim rap, Wendy is convinced she made the right choice in choosing Joohyun sunbaenim for a partner.

Wendy likes to think she can somewhat connect with what Yoon Mirae is trying to say. After all, even if both her parents are Korean, she grew up abroad and just came back to the motherland recently. She’s always been considered a foreigner. She was too Asian to be considered Canadian, yet here, she’s too Western to be deemed a true Korean (despite her heritage). Despite globalization, there are still xenophobic mindsets that are widespread in the country. Most locals, especially the elders, have a low opinion of mixed Koreans, like Yoon Mirae… not to mention Wendy’s own mother. Wendy bets that they also have unfavorable opinions on Koreans raised abroad like herself.

At the last word, she smiles and points a finger gun at Joohyun sunbaenim just before the older girl raps again. She closes her eyes as she sings the chorus, moving along, almost as if she’s impromptu dancing. Music has given them all strength at some point in their lives. This is why most of them are here in this building right? Music was Wendy’s companion when she fell into depression at the end of her skating career. It was what pushed her to reinvent herself from the fallen skating prodigy into hopefully Nova’s next singer-songwriter. This is why Wendy does what she does. She wants her music to be able to heal someone’s spirit, the way it did for her.

Admittedly, loving herself has been a little bit of a challenge she’s still trying to overcome. There are several things in life that she’s wanted that didn’t go her way… her skating career, her love life, her other abandoned dreams… She almost didn’t want to try dreaming again, but if she hadn’t tried the MGAs, she probably wouldn’t be here right now. 

She may have given up on the idea of love, only to be reminded that there are other kinds of love available to her… her love of God, her family, her friends, her passions… These are all other forms of love that help her love herself.

First Valentine’s || Seulgi & Irene

Seulgi hadn’t really had anyone to give anything to for Valentine’s before.  Sure, she had had a few crushes growing up, but no one that was really hers. As the days grew closer towards the holiday, she began to wonder what she should do. She knew that normally the girls would give the guys stuff, but they were both girls, so she hoped that Joohyun didn’t get offended by that, though she doubted she would.  She also really didn’t know if Joohyun was into the whole Valentine’s thing, or if she would think it was stupid.  She decided, against the likelihood that yes, she probably would think it was dumb, that she was going to do her best and give the older girl a nice Valentine’s Day.

Telling Joohyun she had an errand to run, she didn’t stay for any extra practice time like she normally would and went as quickly as she could back to their shared apartment.  First, though, she picked up some takeout for the two of them to share and some flowers at a nearby convenience store.  She put on some soft music and lit some candles. It wasn’t amazing, but it’s what she could get set up with what little time she had available to her, and changed into a nice dress, hoping that she’d look good for the other.  It was all certainly new and she hoped she wasn’t overdoing it as she sat down on the couch with a box of chocolates in front of her, ready to do the whole thing.  Only then she realized she had no idea what time the other would be home.  “Oh...” in a panic, she shot off a text to the older

(SMS: Baechu unnie <3)  Unnie! Can you come home? The toilet is clogged! What do I do?  My family isn’t answering!!! HELP!

Once she hit send, she realized that sounded like she had clogged the toilet and that wasn’t exactly the impression she wanted to give on their first Valentine’s Day date, but the little “SENT” confirmation proved she was too late to change it. This being the case, she flopped back on the couch and whined at her own dumb luck, hoping the other would be there soon.

Deck the Halls || Seulgi & Joohyun

Festive music playing in their apartment, Seulgi was getting into the holiday spirit and decorating around their shared spaces, having brought some lights and garland and cute little snowmen decorations that she thought would make the place look all nice and cozy for the holidays, even if they weren’t really going to be around much to appreciate them, she still thought it was nice to come home to whenever they would.

“Unnie! Could you come here!?” she yelled out to Joohyun, who was in another part of the apartment.  Seulgi was now precariously balanced on her tiptoes, on a footstool which was still not high enough for where she was trying to reach to hang up a sprig of fake mistletoe.  “Is this straight?” she asked once she heard the other enter the room, still reaching up high to try and pin it to the ceiling.  “Please hurry, I’m having trouble here!” she laughed a bit at her wobbly situation.
