minhee is currently trying to figure out her emotions, thanks to a combination of having a fake boyfriend seokwoo and having a brief infatuation seungcheol before realizing it’s nothing more than pure admiration for the kid.   

it was clear that’s minhee’s heart has opened up after a long time after breaking up with simon (npc), on the day before she signed the contract to join sphere entertainment at the time she truly all about business over the matters of the heart. 

yet it seems another boy seems to catch her eye, jinhwan. due to one girl night with yooa, dahye (npc) and other wonderful girls plus her roommates ( jongsuk & jaehwan (npc) ) . their lingering words in her mind about getting out there and try to date ( even though the contract states otherwise ). she asked the boy from her yoga class on a date during the bubble festival and the date seems to be pretty lovely.

now the problem is as much she wants to try to see where it goes with jinhwan but there is always thoughts about the breach of contract in the back of her mind lingers like a bad dream. she always looks forward to seeing him during the kumdo training sessions and yoga class in the mornings so it’s not like doesn’t see him. everything so new & fresh~

the bro squad is supportive as ever in their group chat despite not seeing each other as much she would like. it was a pleasant surprise when kangjoon, hyuna, wendy, gray, yuju crashed her first mukbang live stream making it the super fun! she feels honored to have supportive friends like that despite the times when she would prioritize work over friends yet they’re still such good friends.

minhee’s proud of her brother dongwook (npc) due to him starting up his own cover rock band which has been getting few gigs here and there. he's finally got some money to his name not living off their parents. he said seeing his friends debuting in convex that inspire him to create his band.

the sphere trainees relationships with minhee tend to be somewhat distant due to the training on different projects plus convex finally debuted so they’re not trainees are no more. she wants to check up on soojung as she’s like her little sister to her in sphere and wanted to see how she’s coping with whole debut thing which her lover is sehun ( last time she checked ). maybe in november/december she can work building relations with the sphere girls & seokwoo, well that’s the plan.

training / work

finally, she feels somewhat comfortable being a trainee as she knows what she path she going on and what she wants to do. after a year of confusion and trying out every little thing, she finally found her feet with the guidance of the trainers. despite being called ‘the pretty one with no talent’ she has made it her mission to change that title. 

ever since rachel join the sphere ranks, minhee has always felt somewhat threatened by her in a professional sense. she is finally getting into the model business and rachel is an experienced model. there is no doubt her rival is stunning, so she encourages to push minhee harder and get better.

convex music video has been released, no one will really realize that girl who rejects the handsome boys was minhee in music video but she knows it and this will remain most important music video in her heart. for one, her friends finally achieved their dream of becoming an idol and it was her first time working on a music video which makes it extra special.

she wishes in the future to work with jonghyun again despite the fact he always winds her up but it is always quite enjoyable to work alongside him plus it would be comfortable on set too. minhee really loves acting more than modeling as she gets to play someone else and live a different life through character. her ideal drama cast would be herself, kangjoon, jonghyun, jongsuk, seokwoo, soojung & rachel.

he’s used to having eyes on him.  from the time that hyojong was a child, making the neighbours laugh with his antics or, as he grew, made their eyes draw with fondness to all his talents, he’s always craved the affection that comes with putting on a show.  the ability to make an audience feel something that maybe, they wouldn’t ordinarily feel: wonder, happiness, excitement, all of it has been something dear to him since he was a young boy still learning about himself.  that’s how it all turned into a dream.

and the dream is being realized, slowly but surely - one step at a time.  with each evaluation, hyojong can feel himself grow stronger as a performer, and maybe they don’t think he’s ready yet, but something tells him that he will be one day.  one day, it’ll be the royal boys time to shine.

thus leads them to this evaluation.  he’s not a stranger to eyes on him, so the idea of being the center in a performance isn’t one too daunting.  after practicing with rachel, baekhyun, and hugo all month, he’s feeling ready.  hugo may not be the best dancer, rachel may have teased him once, and maybe he feels a little bad that baekhyun with his voice like a nightingale didn’t get a bigger part but he’s feeling confident that they can all at least put on a show that’ll catch the eye.

that’s what this is about, isn’t it? 

hyojong has taken on more lines than most of the members, since he’s taken two parts in jiyoon and hyuna’s rap roles.  he thinks with his odd high tone rap, he matches their parts well and it’ll give him more time in the center as the focus of the song.  it’s part of the reason why he chose crazy, because he knows the song would sound off if he tried taking the part of a rapper with a deeper tone.  even if hyojong seems a little bit dazed or airheaded at times, he thinks more often about everything - he thinks in details.

as the music plays, it’s all power moves and body waves.  the thing about hyojong is that he knows how to use expression well; wild, taunting faces accompany lyrics and the twist of bodies.  there’s only one slight twist to the choreography and to the lyrics, during one of jiyoon’s parts.  a constant rap to prove she’s a crazy ass bitch more than likely, hyojong had the idea instead to use his members to his advantage.  a slight lyric change -

i’m the crazy boy in here, you’re like gossip girl; and he takes rachel by the chin, body close.  this is where she teased him during practice, because they didn’t know each other well and he was obviously a little shy no matter how many acting classes he’s taken by now.  but in this moment, he’s no longer an awkward boy with his hands, instead he’s in charge and swiping his thumb across her chin dangerously close to her lips when he says hey, call my girlfriend.

and then things are back to normal, the same choreography and the same lyrics.  it’s meant to be a powerful performance, one to shock and awe.  finally, when the song is coming to an end and hyojong knows it, on his face is the craziest look that he can muster - taunting, smirking, and hardly one that anyone who knows him would recognize.  the final move is a pop of his chest with the raise of his arms and as the music ends, his hands fall slowly to his hips with the look still on his face.

today, with this performance, hyojong thinks he’s improved far more than what he thought at the beginning of the month.  and even if no one else thinks it matters, it means a great deal to him.

SHINE  ( 빛나리 )

with all of the hectic scenery changes, jinwook doesn’t feel quite as starstruck when he walks onto a new set anymore. one week of filming can’t change a man too much, though. the styling, especially, is still a shock at times. he’s been blonde before, but never professionally styled — bleached too late to appear on the mgas, and dyed darker for the samsung commercial last spring. it’s never looked like this, parted neatly and lifted off his forehead with expensive hairspray, and it still catches him off-guard when he gets glimpses of his reflection. combined with the natural makeup smoothing his skin and intensifying his gaze, jinwook could almost believe that the man staring back is a debut-ready idol.

“this hair color is shocking, right?” he speaks to the camera set up for behind-the-scenes footage, peering into its tiny preview screen. some of the boys are awkward like this, but jinwook’s never had difficulty talking to himself. he likes to have fun with it, even if most of it will never be shown to the public. “i’m going to film some close-up shots today, so i was a little nervous about coming out well, to be honest...”

jinwook catches a familiar flash of blonde in his peripherals and his whole expression brightens. “but i can’t complain too much because this is today’s co-star~” he beckons rachel into the frame and shifts, giving her the center. “tada~ rachel-ssi promised to treat me nicely, right?” laughter on jinwook’s lips, he shrugs. “but we haven’t practiced the scene, so i don’t know for sure yet...”

he approaches her on the first day of filming, before everything gets underway. there are staff running around everywhere, and kibum has only just been dismissed from the makeup chair, where the makeup noona chatted his ear off about how amazing his skin is, and how lucky sphere is to have so many visuals in their new group. the showering of compliments led to kibum feeling confident and happy, even if it sounds shallow. he’s grown up since the time when he chased shallow validations like that, but that doesn’t mean he can’t appreciate them now. 

he met rachel at the height of that time, though, when his insecurities and anxieties overwhelmed him so much that he put up an overconfident front, to hide his anxieties from both the rest of the world and himself. it’s been over six years since he met rachel, back when he was so alone that he moved all the way around the world without leaving anyone behind. 

looking back, it seems like it was always inevitable for them to come together, but kibum still hates the way they fell apart. 

he can’t help but look for her now, knowing that she’s gotten a featured role in the music video, knowing that ironically enough, she’ll probably end up with more screentime than him. that doesn’t bother him as much as the fact that they’re still not on speaking terms, though. he’s lost count of how many times he’s clicked on her name in his phone, preparing to send a text about some funny thing one of the convex members said or did, before seeing the short, to-the-point messages they exchanged when seonho was in the hospital and remembering that she’s not there anymore -- not for him. 

they’d known they would have to break up. that’s the part that kills him -- they knew it was coming from the moment kibum entered sphere. it was building for six months before everything fell apart, but he never expected them to fall apart so horribly. after everything, even with all the stress they were under, he never thought things would get so bad. 

and now, over three months later, kibum can’t take it anymore. he misses rachel -- in a romantic sense, of course, but mostly just in a general sense. they were best friends long before they were ever anything romantic, and he sometimes wonders if their relationship is what led to them ending so disastrously. but regardless of what’s happened over the last year and a half, he can’t help but miss his best friend. 

so he approaches her when the makeup staff leaves her at her chair. there isn’t anyone else close enough to overhear them, but there are still people milling about -- convex members, other female trainees, and staff members move around everywhere, either waiting until filming starts or rushing around to try to get everything ready to film. nobody pays them the slightest bit of attention, though kibum does sweep his eyes over the room as he approaches, just to be sure. 

“hey,” he says, rubbing the back of his newly-blonde head with one hand, being careful not to mess up his carefully styled hair. “i, uh...” he swallows, suddenly unsure of what to say. i miss you sounds like too serious of a way to start out this conversation, and the last thing he wants is to fight with her again. “congrats on the featuring role,” he says after an awkward moment, looking into her eyes and trying to convey with his own a silent apology, trying to extend an olive branch without saying it aloud. 

even after everything, she’ll still be able to read him like a book, especially now, when he’s opened himself to the most private pages to let her see, to show her just how honest and sincere he’s trying to be. he doesn’t want to hide anything from her, doesn’t want anything else to come between them. 

all he wants is his best friend back.

Taking a Break || Seulgi & Rachel

April into May had been a tough time for Seulgi, though she had tried to mask it as best as she could. With Joohyun’s departure from Sphere, from the apartment, from Seulgi’s potential love life, it was bound to be.  Add on top of that the stress of moving from the apartment (she was the only one left, so it made sense to move back home with her parents), and trying to keep up with schoolwork and with training, it had been more than overwhelming for her.  She honestly felt more tired than she could ever remember, both physically and mentally.  She needed a night off from everything to just blow off some steam.

Even though she was distracted by her own feelings lately, she had noticed someone else who seemed a bit off.  She had no idea why she did, or even how she happened to notice because they weren’t super close, but Rachel hadn’t seemed herself lately.  Approaching her toward the end of the day, she was surprised to find herself offering to close that gap between them a bit.  “Hey... this is going to be kind of out of nowhere, but would you like to come hang out instead of sticking around here tonight?  I’d cook us up some food and I’ve got a few bottles of soju laying around.  You seem like you could use a night off just as much as I could.  My parents are out of the country and my brother will be at his girl’s place, so we could have a girl’s night?”

there’s something wrong with rachel. eve latched onto her for this evaluation -- she doesn’t have any acting experience, and she knows there’s plenty to learn from rachel. besides, since their reconciliation she can’t help but want to be around the other, to laugh and joke with her like they used to. 

( luna is still missing, but eve can’t do anything about that. for now she can settle with spending time with them separately, but she still always feels like there’s something else she could do, a hand she could extend. she knows better than to try. )

the choosing of their scene comes easily -- eve had just rewatched toy story not long ago, and the thought of doing a disney scene makes her feel a bit more comfortable with the whole thing, as it’s more in the realm of things she knows. the scene is emotional, too, and will require plenty of work and practice from her to pull off just how passionate woody is while trying to convince buzz of how great it is to be a toy. 

and buzz is supposed to be depressed and downtrodden in the scene, but that doesn’t mean eve wants to see rachel feeling that way. during a lull between run throughs of the scene, their typed lines already marked up with colorful notes and reminders, she watches rachel, then finally brings up the subject she’s been trying to figure out how to breach for days. 

“what’s wrong, rach?” she asks, her eyebrows furrowed in concern. “did something happen? only buzz is supposed to be sad here, not you too. you don’t have to take the acting that seriously,” she smiles a bit, but it’s a weak joke. she’s only trying to lighten the mood, to show rachel that she’s concerned, but if rachel would rather not talk about it then they can just focus on the scene.

멀어지다

once upon a time, sohee wouldn’t even think twice about texting rachel, reaching out to her and calling for her presence for her comfort. once upon a time, rachel and sohee were so close that sometimes, they just knew when they needed each other. once upon a time, it would never be expected that they would drift apart or become strangers.

it was sohee’s own fault, really.

but she misses rachel’s comfort. rachel knew what to say or what to do every time. it’s what a best friend was best at. though she knows their schedules wouldn’t permit them to just run to each other like they used to be able to do when they were younger, she wishes she could do exactly that.

she’s not sure, but maybe texting rachel would have the same effect as seeing her. she knows she has to settle for something, at least. with the ban, she doesn’t want to bring any more unwanted attention to her. even if it’s something as simple as going to see an old friend.
